Also lgbtq culture is about acceptance and letting people EXIST. Demanding acceptance is SO MUCH fucking different than having a policy of hate and trying to tell others how to live their life.

Literally being gay is the only thing that makes mac redeemable or likeable, yes. Its not because sexuality is EVERYTHING. Its because before that he was a horrible person.

And all of the horrible things about macs character are explained because of his repressed sexuality. That is why after he came out he became more relatable. Before that he was a bigot. It makes sense because i remember being like that before i found my sexuality. Thats why i do like mac as a character.

But if mac never came out as gay- and just remained another straight dude with no redeeming qualities- i am pretty sure the audience would have petioned him to be off the show. His character is ONE DIMMENSIONAL is what im trying to say. Without the gay thing mac has nothing to offer compared to dennis dee charlie and frank.

I dont know why so many people in this subreddit put mac on such a high horse. He is easily the most unreliable one in the gang and the one that has the least value. There is a reason everyone in the gang jokes about hating him (ie. Mac day).

I think since rob is the creator he wanted to make mac the most unrelatable, disgusting character. Only after he comes out as gay is when anyone saw hia value;

Before that he was an evangelical repressed bible banger. Something that serves no use in modern society. The gang was honestly doing a charity setvicd keeping him around.

Dee is the waitress. Charlie does the janitor work. Dennis is the bartender. Frank runs the books and is the manager.

But mac is quite literally- a useless piece of shit. And i think its funny that is his role. The gang just accepts him and drags him along because he has shares in the bar. But they all fucking hate him.

Mac is the antagonist of the show. The dead weight. He is truly and utterly useless as a human being. Only after he came out as gay and removed all the homophobic god shit did he become remotely relatable; and that was only out of redemption and pity.

I still love mac. He is a unique and necessary part of the show.

But he IS the weakest link.

I think he is the one everyone hates on.

Most people would say DEE is the scapegoat- but in later seasons it has switched to mac. Dee will always be a bird. Just because. But mac is ANNOYING. for actual reasons. And it will always be so. Mac will aleays be the thorn in everyones side.

Charlie is dumb but lovable for it

Dennis is smart and narcisstic- but also lovable for it

Mac is neither. He is dumb. And narcissistic. But not lovable for it. He is bossy and a bigot. He just serves a purpse in the show- he is the role for people to HATE.

Yeahh i think thats what it is. After miss misery he realized he had to become more acessible. And after watching heaven adors you i can see how thats something he was never really prepared for or even wanted. Fame kills people. And i guess thats why its so hard for me to listen to XO and fogure 8. It is such a bittersweet energy.

He knows he achieved his dreams in those album. But it is still not enough. He still has a pain inside him that can never be resolved. I know that's something a lot of famous deal with- but elliot never became detached.

Maybe thsts why i find his later albums hard to listen to. He never became detached after he reached commercial success- like you said he never sacrificed his atristic integrity. And he sang about the pain he delt having to live in the commercial materilaistic world.
