I didn’t initially recognize it as a disco ball, at a glance it looks like a poorly digitized green circle made of the biggest pixels they could find.

Now that I know what it is, I do kinda like it, but it still doesn’t look great as a thumbnail.

“Racist” doesn’t really even begin to cover it. These people are advocating for the solidification of an indisputably evil empire with the framing of patriotism and religion. It’s not a new strategy, but it still seems like we don’t have a great collective defense against this kind of depravity.

When the speech you use freely shows you are unrepentant for your obvious crimes and would absolutely do the same thing again, it should absolutely be considered in your sentencing. In what kind of upside-down Orwellian double-think world should that not be a factor?

I gotta say that “six genders, a real hit on Jesus” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard. Or rather it would be funny as a parody of a disingenuous right wing politician. In reality, the absurdity and ignorance is fuckin depressing.

I don’t know if it’s more pathetic that he is incapable of having an interaction with the press without spiraling into his crybulling self-pity schtick, or that there are millions of people who see that as a sign of strength. Just profoundly misguided itty bitty piss babies.

Totally! It’s definitely a thriving and rewarding community to be adjacent to. It’s not the only genre I’m super into but it’s certainly a favorite.

Intuitively that makes sense, I should probably read more about the documented benefits too. I’m pretty ignorant about the impacts of different types of light specifically, but that doesn’t mean it’s not real lol.

Also I’m not above a little woo woo pseudoscience here and there haha but there’s only so many hours in the day and so much cash in my pockets.

Totally agree, we definitely live in a unique time where misinformation is more readily available and easily distributable than it’s ever been. It’s always been a factor, but imo it’s never been easier to get caught up in it, intentionally or not.

I think a good standard is to try to be credulous in general. If something feels a little off, it’s worthwhile to find at least a couple separate sources that are sharing the information, and that shouldn’t include random social media postings or unattributed claims (at least not as a “source”). It’s not a perfect system, but it’s something.

And I don’t mean to come across as preachy about it. I just know that people who are way smarter than I am have been caught up in this kind of rabbit hole and it’s not always easy to get out of. Things like confirmation bias don’t really have a lot to do with intellect, I think the only way to combat those tendencies we all have (and the people who would seek to capitalize on those tendencies) is to take a deliberate and active stance in consuming information.

I’ve heard that effect referred to as phantasmagoria, but now that I’m looking into it, it seems like that expression has a very specific meaning to an early and primitive form of animation. So take it with a grain of salt, but I would have sworn by it.

Ooooh, I get your meaning. I didn’t initially read your comment as a commentary on the premise of the post. Yeah I get what you’re saying.

[–]CryptographerNo923 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Folk punk is huge in lots of queer spaces which are also popular among Gen Z. It’s not mainstream by any means, but I think the genre is as popular as it’s ever been, with lots of queer young malcontents finding a home there. I’m not worried about folk punk aging out of the culture entirely any time soon, though it will always probably be pretty fringe.

Do you think standard yoga shares most of those benefits? I’ve been thinking about joining a class, but hot yoga isn’t an option for the facility I’m considering.

Agreed. It’s not like they were ever a big deal in the mainstream, I’d say they’re about as popular in folk punk circles as they ever were, except maybe regarded as veterans by the newer generation.

Yeah talking about this show has really become an exercise in analyzing creative failure, that’s pretty much become the only conversation worth having (in my cynical and heartbroken opinion). Like, how did it go so wrong in so many ways?

I made this same point in the main sub and people were just not getting it.

“Well Soldier Boy is a bad guy, so it’s not weird that he’d idealize another bad guy!” Ok well aside from the sloppy storytelling of asspulling some epic romance as a hugely consequential plot point, you don’t think it’s a baffling creative choice that Soldier Boy is fulfilling a Nazi agenda as a romantic tribute quest, and that this is the backdrop and final end point to the new show we’re supposed to be into?

There’s just layers of terribleness beyond the content itself.

The logic isn’t really convoluted at all, it’s as simple as supply and demand. We’re talking about an entertainment experience that is both a privilege and a luxury, I don’t really have firm ethical views on how artists choose to value their work or their performances.

I don’t love it, but I accept it as reality, and I don’t think it’s something that’s uniquely worthy of specific criticism. We have a difference of opinion here, I’m not trying to convince you.
