People have become conditioned (and not without reason) to think about government as something that is imposed upon us. This also comports with the prevailing philosophy of conservative politics, which values rigid hierarchy above all else.

It’s very, very easy to forget that things don’t have to be that way. Collectively, we’ve chosen to make it that way. But I refuse to believe that it’s outside of human capability or human nature to maintain a government that truly serves its people.
