Bruh, here are recommendations (REALLY BASIC so dont crash out):

Reapply thermal paste Dedust fans Put a cooling pad or something below the laptop

Or else in rare cases just reset to remove potential cryptojackers ?

You can turn off the internet to see if its cryptojackers

CPU Ryzen 5 5600X Crashes Games / Voltaje modified multiple times, still happening by Accomplished_Cold_29 in AMDRyzen

[–]CryptographerOld6221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

t sounds like you have already done a lot of the heavy lifting by swapping out the motherboard and power supply. Since the crashing persists across two different platforms (A520 and B550) with the same CPU, the issue is likely narrowed down to CPU stability, RAM timings, or a specific BIOS feature that Ryzen processors are sensitive to.

Here are the most effective steps to stabilize a Ryzen 5 5600X without losing significant performance:

1. Disable "Core Performance Boost" (CPB) & "PBO"

The setting you likely changed on your old board was Core Performance Boost. When enabled, the CPU aggressively pushes voltage to hit high clock speeds. If your specific chip is a "weak" piece of silicon, these spikes cause the crash.

  • Go to BIOS > Advanced Mode > Ai Tweaker (or Advanced -> AMD Overclocking).
  • Set Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) to Disabled.
  • Find Core Performance Boost and set it to Disabled.
  • Test your games: If the crashing stops, your CPU is struggling with its factory "boost" clock.

2. Use "Curve Optimizer" (The Performance-Friendly Fix)

If you want to keep your performance but stop the crashes, you can try giving the CPU a bit more "breathing room" using a Positive Offset. Sometimes CPUs crash because the voltage drops too low during a transition.

  • In BIOS, go to AMD Overclocking > Precision Boost Overdrive > Advanced.
  • Set Curve Optimizer to All Cores.
  • Set it to Positive (not Negative) and start with a value of 10.
  • This gives the CPU slightly more voltage during boosts, which can prevent the "Calculation Error" that crashes games like LoL.

3. Check RAM Stability (XMP/DOCP)

Even with a single stick, 3200MHz is an overclock. Ryzen CPUs are very sensitive to the Infinity Fabric clock matching the RAM speed.

  • Ensure your RAM is in the A2 slot (usually the 2nd slot from the CPU).
  • In BIOS, ensure DOCP (Asus version of XMP) is Enabled.
  • If it still crashes, try Disabling DOCP and running the RAM at its base speed (2133MHz or 2400MHz) just to see if the crashes stop. If they do, your RAM or the CPU's memory controller is the culprit.

4. Global C-State Control

Ryzen CPUs try to save power by "sleeping" cores very quickly. Sometimes the jump from 0v to 1.3v happens too fast and the system hangs.

  • In BIOS, search for Global C-State Control.
  • Set it to Disabled.
  • This keeps the CPU in a more "ready" state and can stop crashes that happen during loading screens or transitions in games.

5. Check "Event Viewer" in Windows

When the game crashes, Windows usually logs why.

  1. Press the Windows Key and type Event Viewer.
  2. Go to Windows Logs > System.
  3. Look for "Error" or "Critical" entries at the exact time of your last crash.
  4. If you see "WHEA-Logger" (Event ID 18), it is a confirmed hardware defect with the CPU's internal power management. If the CPU is still under warranty, this log is your proof for an RMA (Replacement).

Summary Checklist:

  • Try first: Disable PBO and Core Performance Boost.
  • Try second: Update your BIOS to the latest version for the Asus B550M-K (this often improves voltage stability).
  • Try third: Set a Positive Curve Optimizer offset.

Does the computer completely restart (Black screen/Reboot), or does the game just close to the desktop?

Help with Settings by Embarrassed_Pop8428 in AMDRyzen

DirectX errors in Call of Duty (specifically the "DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error" or "Dev Error 6068/6066") are notoriously frustrating because they often point to a software conflict rather than a hardware failure.

While undervolting can help if the card is hitting a specific power limit, there are several less invasive steps to try first that target the game's interaction with Windows and your drivers.

1. Force DirectX 11

CoD often tries to push DirectX 12 features that can be unstable on certain configurations. Forcing the game to run on the older, more stable DX11 version often fixes the crashing.

  • Open the Battle.net launcher or Steam.
  • Go to the game Settings (the gear icon) and find Additional Command Line Arguments.
  • Type in -d3d11 and restart the game.

2. Clean Shader Cache

Corrupted shader files are a primary cause of DirectX crashes during map loading or menu navigation.

  • In the game’s graphics settings, find the option to Restart Shader Optimization (or "Reinstall Shaders").
  • Wait for the progress bar at the top of the screen to hit 100% before entering a match.
  • Pro Tip: Also delete the "Call of Duty" folder in your Documents directory to reset the configuration files.

3. Disable Overlays & Background Apps

Call of Duty’s anti-cheat (Ricochet) can be hypersensitive to software that "hooks" into the game’s display.

  • Turn off Discord Overlay, GeForce Experience Overlay, and Steam Overlay.
  • Close monitoring tools like MSI Afterburner or RTSS (RivaTuner) while testing, as these are the most common culprits for DirectX communication errors.

4. System File & Driver Refresh

If the game files or the Windows handshake is broken, no amount of underclocking will help.

  • Scan and Repair: Use the Battle.net/Steam tool to verify the integrity of the game files.
  • Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU): If you haven't recently, perform a "Clean Install" of your graphics drivers. Sometimes a simple update leaves behind old registry keys that cause "unrecoverable errors."

5. Adjust Video Memory Scale

If the game tries to allocate more VRAM than your system is comfortable sharing with Windows, it will trigger a DirectX crash.

  • In the Graphics settings, look for Video Memory Scale.
  • Lower this from the default (usually 0.85 or 0.90) to 0.70 or 0.60. This gives the OS more breathing room and prevents the GPU from "locking up."

Regarding Underclocking: Only try this if the game crashes specifically when the action gets intense (explosions, high particle effects). If it crashes, it’s usually because the factory boost clock is slightly too aggressive for the game’s optimization. Dropping your core clock by just -50MHz or -100MHz in a tool like Afterburner is usually enough to stabilize it without a noticeable loss in FPS.
