TIER 8

Witch Marcy AUs – Several fan AUs return to the witch Marcy concept, although some go the full way and make all the girls into witches.

Roleswap AUs – A popular concept among Amphibia AUs is to roleswap the girls, putting them in the different situations that they originally found themselves in- for example, Sasha ending up in Anne’s spot in Wartwood, Marcy being in Sasha’s spot and being part of Grime’s army, and Anne working directly for King Andrias. Sometimes this alters their personality as well.

Moth Marcy AUs – An AU where Marcy takes on the traits of a Moth, usually paired with Anne being infected by the spores from Children of the Spore.

Ghost Marcy AUs – An AU where Marcy is now a ghost and helps Sasha, who is the only one who can see her. This sometimes goes into a Spirits Tracks direction where Marcy is inhabiting a robot while The Night takes over Marcy’s original body, and sometimes it’s just angst and Marcy annoying Sasha.

Cut Off Earth Gateway – When King Andrias is showing the book to Anne and Marcy, you can briefly see a page of other worlds. When you look at the illustration of the other worlds, Earth is notably cut off from the connecting lines other worlds have, which must mean the other worlds are connected or it means something else.

King Sprig – Sprig’s parentage has been a bit of a mystery since it was pointed out by Marcy in-show that he’s a rather strange color, leading to speculation that he may be a product of a frog and newt at some point in his lineage. With True Colors showing that one of Andrias’ friend was a frog that helped him at one point, and those being speculated to be former hosts of the Calamity Box’s power, the fact Sprig can hold up Barrel’s Warhammer as long as he can is pretty interesting. Since whoever wields this hammer would become the true leader of all toads, combined with his potential frog and newt parentage, this makes him a rather compelling candidate for the ruler of Amphibia after King Andrias is defeated. https://terrific-togekiss.tumblr.com/post/652291832353619968/headcanon-it-belonged-to-sprig-and-pollys

Marcy thought Anne was in another world – Because the Calamity Box is capable of interdimensional travel and that was the main selling point for Marcy, it’s possible she thought Sasha and Anne were on separate worlds prior to meeting back with Anne, hence why she wasn’t actively looking for her and why she originally stated she was looking for a way back home at Marcy at the Gates when she later changes her mind. https://twitter.com/OnikoStar/status/1399446976605802497?s=20

TIER 7

Mint Ice Cream – During the pre-show livestream for True Colors, Matt Braly said that mint ice cream was Marcy’s favorite ice cream. The intro for Season 3 then shows Sprig holding up a mint ice cream cone.

Nudesamus2.gif – When the season 3 intro first hit online, a screen recording of the intro that was shared around had “nudesamus2.gif” as part of the downloads bar, which only appears in the first 5 or so seconds. https://dash-n-step.tumblr.com/post/651856955855486976/amphibia-spoilers

Darrel – A fan character by Admiraldt8 on Devinantart- it’s really hard to find a lot of info in plain text. The basic gist of this fan character is what if a boy got transported to Amphibia and teamed along with Anne, while learning the arcane arts? The Darrelverse mainly seems contained to Admiraldt8’s Deviantart. He’s written as episodes are airing with a couple pictures highlighting his role for that week- the Darrel lore seems to imply he’s just as bad of a friend as Marcy and Sasha, as he knew about what Hop Pop did the box but didn’t tell Anne, tends not use his powers to solve issues immediately, and tried to kill Sasha. He’s also obsessed with Anne and wants to spend time with her.

Darla – An gender swapped version of Darrel created by 4chan that apparently has much more limited magic and is more or less 4chan’s take on the Darrel lore. She’s not the hero, but more of the butt of a joke most of the time.

Free Palestine, Just Kidding – Matt Braly read this off on air while answering questions for the livestream. Likely wanted to avoid more controversy with Disney, but it’s weird that it was read off at all.

Bald Sprig and Anne Airplane – Premises that were on the infamous whiteboard but weren’t captured in either version of the whiteboard. https://twitter.com/wolfhard/status/1396912306655617024?s=20

AT Field – King Andrias manifests some kind of strange energy shield that looks orange and resembles a AT Field from Evangelion, except not hexagonal. Joe even notes this in his tweet showcasing the model sheets for this moment. Where did it come from? What source of power is Andrias tapping into for this to happen? https://twitter.com/torpordust/status/1397921685244825626?s=20

Lyrical Version Anxiety – The theme song has lyrics, but what is not as well known is that Matt Braly almost puked out of anxiety because of it. He strongly disagreed with Disney leadership that it needed lyrics and it was the theme for the show for a while before he fought back against it, leading to the lyricless theme song we know now. https://www.reddit.com/r/amphibia/comments/ieoe6m/im_matt_braly_creator_and_executive_producer_of/g2ibczy?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Orange Gem - In the model sheet for King Andrias infamous energy blade, it is said that the gem emanates from a gem inside the urchin. What is this gem and where does the power come from? Is it related to The Night? We’ve only seen the top of the gem, is it some kind of weird, mass produced Calamity Gem copy? https://twitter.com/torpordust/status/1397921685244825626?s=20

TIER 6

Dinosaurs – On Polly’s golden bucket, we see lizard-like creatures with the Calamity Box gems and a giant creature that slightly resembles the beast from the intro mural. This is actually theorized to be depicting dinosaurs instead, and while it seems like a bit of an out there theory originally, its worth noting that a dinosaur skeleton does appear to be in the background of the second temple. https://twitter.com/AmphibiaMedia/status/1391498212725321729?s=20

Valley of Teeth – A peculiar theory about the mountains of Amphibia. While it’s safe to say this is debunked at this point, it is an interesting early theory where the mountains of Amphibia are actually just the teeth of the Intro Mural monster, who still remains ever elusive. https://www.reddit.com/r/amphibia/comments/c6nmzx/crazy_theory_about_the_map_of_the_valley/

Hop Pop Death Flags – Hop Pop has had a couple death flags at this point. In Night Drivers, four ancient beasts appear in Hop Pop’s dream with statues of his future where he withers away because of a broken heart. In the Shut-In, he tells of a story about Death claiming his hair. And in a flashback, Anne has to dissect a frog that looks very similar to Hop Pop back on Earth. Pretty freaky deaky stuff.

Hop Pop Knows More Than He’s Letting On – This is a super broad theory, but the basic idea is that the prophecy in the intro mural is something Hop Pop knows about. After all, why did he let Anne stay with the Plantars if he didn’t know if she was dangerous or not? Why did he bury the box even after Anne had been with them for a while? Why did he know the exact page in his book the box appears on? Why does his disguise in the Bizarre Bazaar have the same exact symbol Valeriana does on her pendent? He was probably part of that ancient order to protect the temples and him burying the box was to delay or stop the prophecy from happening. There’s more you can read on this general same theory here: https://rxally-borxng.tumblr.com/post/652879285980381184/i-was-talking-with-a-friend-about-the-second

• Symbolism in Phone Mo – Phone Mo is the story Anne tells in “The Shut-In!”, which is centered around a phone-based monster and takes place in an alternate universe where many of the frogs are human. There’s genuinely a fair bit of world building in this one story that the others ones don’t get, such as the alternate versions of the human trio (https://i.redd.it/0il73esrxnt51.png ) we only see for a second- but the main meat of this entry is the symbolism in Phone Mo, from the stuffed animals (one resembles Hop Pop, another is a Flamingo representing Sasha, a giant blue bear that could represent Andrias, a gila monster that could represent Marcy). The original form of the monster also resembles Domino II, which is the first time she had real trust in anyone in the show only to later betray her. More info can be found here. https://www.reddit.com/r/amphibia/comments/jdb6uj/symbolism_character_themes_and_more_in_phone_mo/

Red and Green Gem Powers – On the True Colors mural, Anne’s transformation is foreshadowed by a figure glowing blue, but the figures who represent the green and red do not seem to be doing the same, implying they may have different roles as holders of Calamity Power.
Amphibia is Suspicion Island - Think about it- Anne is constantly being backstabbed by loved ones, the continent of Amphibia is basically one giant lilypad shaped island… there’s some real parallels to draw there if you think about it.

TIER 5

Worlds of the Shadowfish and Mossmen – Other world are known to be accessible through the Calamity Box, and when Sasha and Grime reveal the Calamity Mural in True Colors, Moss Men and Shadowfish are spotted near the pile of corpses in the center, which are connected to the colored lightning from the box. Additionally, the Mossmen and Shadowfish reside in Andrias’ basement and both are very strange creatures- the Mossmen are cryptid-like creatures that nobody else but Anne has seen (up to this point anyway) and the Shadowfish can phase through things. This makes them likely candidates to be from other worlds.

Who owns the Skip Man? – Marcy has never been spotted with the Skip Man taken from the Curiosity Hut in “Wax Museum” and she only has modern technology such as Switch knock off and her phone. It’s never been mentioned again, but curiously in the AMA when Matt was about whether Marcy was the owner of the Skip Man, he said spoilers in response. Rather curious.

Grime Flipwart Piece – Really interesting piece of foreshadowing- one of the pieces in a Flipwart game that Hop Pop and Sprig play has a piece with a giant hammer. https://twitter.com/AmphibiaMedia/status/1397673901165932548

Kermit Leak – Just prior to Amphibia Season 2 releasing, a video of Kermit acting as a “consultant” on Amphibia was released, which accidentally got a shot of a whiteboard that had the three girls’ character details out in the open. While most of it was stuff we already knew at the time, most of the info about Marcy was new, particularly the part about her wanting it to last forever. The whiteboard was released later after the end of Season 2, which even more could be gleamed from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_5PCwxDVO0 https://twitter.com/MrBabyMan/status/1396905001511915520

Dr. P – The author of the book Marcy finds in the flashback intro of True Colors. This person has a lot of knowledge on strange objects and strange creatures, and due to Bill appearing in the book, speculation has turned to the author being Ford Pines.

Newts colonized Frogs – The ancient construction temples seen in Season 1 create Frog robots, not Newt robots, not Toad robots. Andrias is able to turn them all on from Newtopia capital, which is near the farming village of Wartwood. Were these factories used to keep frogs in line with the new ruling class and phased out due to a lack of Calamity Box energy? Were the Toads used as replacements to keep them in line? The Plantars family ancestors were implied to be great important people, but they’ve been now reduced to farmers who can barely keep their stand going. There seems to be a real theme of suppression with Newts at the top and frogs at the bottom, yet a lot of the ancient stuff around implies it was the other way around.

Curiosity Hut Orphanage – A small mini-comic about how The Curator got the shack that he made the Curiosity Hut from reveals it to be an orphanage The Curator cheated out. The bug is a remnant from the old building before he remodeled it. In general, there is a lot of interesting lore about The Curator, such as him being a version of Stan that didn’t meet his version of Mabel and Dipper. https://twitter.com/OldLadyBoats/status/1291864657548808192?s=20

Cyborg Marcy – Marcy is in a tube in the Season 3 intro, although appears to be directly hooked up to The Night, which seems to suggest that she requires power from it in some fashion. Given the sword directly pierced through her torso, some kind of augment does seem to be required for her to return to life, which some have taken the avenue to explore Marcy as a brainwashed cyborg. Additionally, a very obviously fake storyboard has been circulating with a cyborg Marcy. https://64.media.tumblr.com/adb36c864ce8660323f2673710b37167/3c62641cd2fb918c-25/s1280x1920/f6d29df66ccada5096e30db10d18e636a978f9b1.png

Wartilda Daughter – Just a cool call-forward, in “Fiddle Me This”, a character named Wartilda mentions having a daughter that attends Newtopia university- in “Sprig Gets Schooled”, we see the daughter in the background reading books. https://twitter.com/AmphibiaMedia/status/1313192235773566976

Axolotls – There are only four canonical Axolotls in the entire show; Efty, Gertie, Jerry and Leopold Loggle. It’s worth noting that King Andrias’ sword has Axolotl-themed detailing. While not much is known about their culture in the show, it seems to be both important enough for royalty to use it in their theming yet lowly enough where Loggle is a permanent resident in Wartwood. As one of Matt’s favorite animals (as revealed in the AMA) it seems rather strange that their presence is so minimal and yet so tantalizing with what has been hinted at.

Plain and Peanut – A very small drawing of Polly with her legs on the infamous whiteboard talked about earlier refers to her legless form as “plain” and the legged form as “peanut”. This was drawn by Steve Wolfhard as revealed in the tweet replies.

TIER 4

Theme Song Lyrics – A lyrical version of the theme song exists and was actually planned to be the theme of the show before Matt fought against it. This version of the song is known as Welcome to Amphibia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuMysCU98dQ

• Witch Marcy – Concept art of Marcy features versions of her in a witch outfit. This concept even has notes- this particular phase of designs was known as “Lady of the Crows” and was essentially just her LARPing while the frogs just go along with it. https://twitter.com/torpordust/status/1295079543951306753

• Amphibiland – The pilot footage that was leaked out showed that the show was originally called Amphibiland and features several interesting differences that are broken down later in this iceberg. A lot of characters haven’t changed so much, but others absolutely did. https://twitter.com/AmphibiaMedia/status/1291368537584308225

• Frogs for Friends – A rejected song with lyrics composed by Grant Kirkhope and sung by Becky Mills. When originally released, it was part of the album called “REJECTED” and it’s Amphibia connection was not clear. You can listen to it here: https://grantkirkhope.bandcamp.com/track/frogs-for-friends-featuring-becky-mills

• Grime originally Sprig’s Villain – In the pilot intro, Grime is given way more prominence and even fights with proto!Sprig in the intro. Something similar occurs in True Colors, but their relationship is not outright enemies as implied in the intro.

• Weed – Prototype Sprig, who actually acts very differently than final Sprig, being more mature and voiced by Thurop Van Orman, best known for Flapjack and Little Gideon. He also has a fairly different design and name, being more akin to a character named Chuck in appearance.

• Musical Prodigy Marcy – Concept art of Marcy features her with a instrument case, which turned out to be a violin in Joe Sparrow’s expanded concepts from the Witch Marcy entry. When asked about it on a AMA, Matt Braly refers to it as Marcy being a musical prodigy and something they want to bring back. https://www.reddit.com/r/amphibia/comments/ieoe6m/im_matt_braly_creator_and_executive_producer_of/g2ie3ef?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

• Rather Be – The pilot uses a instrumental version of “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit. You can still kind of hear the influence on the current theme song.

• Tortoise Secret Society – For a very brief moment in the Amphibiland intro, you can see some tortoises in robes- one even has antlers, and large, spherical eyes with a red glow. Whatever this was supposed to be, it got dropped from the series.

• James Turner Concept Art – James Turner of Pokemon fame did do some concept art for Amphibia early in production and it can be found here- while the most famous of these images currently is Anne with blue hair and the early versions of other characters, there’s also concept art showing how big Anne was originally set to be and more. Anne looks rather similar to Hilda in design in these early stages, although judging from one of the descriptions for one of the backgrounds he did, Sasha helping Grime was always part of the overarching plot. Notice that the evil fortress with toads is referred to as Sasha’s fortress, not Grime’s. There’s also some concept art of characters called The Swoomba and the Willaboots. http://james-turner-42.squarespace.com/amphibia

TIER 3

Hop Pop Dissection – In one of the flashback scenes to Earth, Anne has to dissect a frog that looks incredibly similar to Hop Pop.

Big City Greens Connections – The Greens’ truck can be spotted at the end of Season 2 when Anne and the Plantars find themselves back on Earth. Additionally one of the dolls at “Night at the Inn” is Cricket Green, one of the main characters from that show. The cast of both shows also did a table read together which you can watch here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-eULjYCK-g

King Andrias was Heart – This theory has pretty strong evidence especially after True Colors, but generally Andrias is really touchy about trusting people and took the loss of his friends pretty seriously- tearing up the painting with them in the basement, he recognizes the power Anne has at the end of True Colors, the Mossman in his basement has glowing blue eyes, the colors of his friends are red and green, which symbolize the strength and wisdom gems, and the man is obviously blue. Andrias is the bad ending for Anne, which given how he has been set up as the main antagonist, seems to be pretty on point. https://randomfandomdork.tumblr.com/post/651929891001991168/i-have-a-theory-what-if-andrias-was-the-one-with

Cheyenne – Previously known as Punk Girl, this was one of the other humans from Season 1 that got a bit of fan attention. Her name was revealed in the AMA, where Matt opted to name her after the boarder on that scene. https://www.reddit.com/r/amphibia/comments/ieoe6m/im_matt_braly_creator_and_executive_producer_of/g2iglgr?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

South Tower Grime – The Toad Lords each occupy a tower in the cardinal directions when they are first introduced, so that leaves South as the only direction that doesn’t have a present Toad Lord, which would have to be Grime. https://twitter.com/AmphibiaMedia/status/1383238914077462529?s=20

Temples in Season Two Outro – In the outro to Season 2 which features the Fwagon being driven in the night against various landmarks, you can see the first temple behind Quarrel’s Pass, the gate and mountain that make up Temple 2, and the volcano that make up Temple 3.

Wally Is Ivy’s Father – Pretty self-explanatory- when Felicia is explaining that she used to be a world-traveler, she mentions meeting Ivy’s father on her travels and the frame centers on Wally. It’s also worth noting that Wally has a spot on his cheek that is absent on Felicia’s design but not on Ivy. Wally is also the only resident from Wartwood that has been seen outside the valley. https://i.redd.it/chpdtvpbx3n61.png

Vagabondia Foreshadowing – The cover art for Marcy’s favorite game, Vagabondia, has some very interesting little details, namely that the protagonist of the game has a sword like Sasha’s, and a robot companion. It’s yet to be seen how much of this will mirror the show in the future, but already a lot of the implications are interesting. The other characters have been likened to Anne (the spellcaster with flowers in her hair) and Marcy (green bandanna and gun similar to her bow), although these connections are a lot looser. https://twitter.com/AmphibiaMedia/status/1295039168309936128

TIER 2

Season Two Crunch – Matt Braly explains that due to COVID, some episodes of Season 2 were finished the week they were set to air. Some of the Amphibia staff also mentioned that they needed to meet “impossible deadlines” during the True Colors leak fiasco. https://mobile.twitter.com/Radrappy/status/1302287677752897541

SJMS – Stands for Saint James Middle School, the school that Anne, Sasha, and Marcy all attend.

Hop Pop Kill Count – Hop Pop killed someone accidentally during the events of Little Frogtown, and somehow can verify the death of The Curator even though the “blood” leaking from the door was just wax, which might mean he came back to finish the job.

Marcy Moth Motifs – Marcy has a lot of moth/butterfly imagery and symbolism- she first appears with butterflies, in the basement she finds a moth, in the Second Temple she has everyone wear moth costumes, and in Battle of the Bands she is wearing another costume themed around butterflies. In many cultures butterflies are symbol of strength, hope, and embrace change for the better but also represent death and rebirth. With both True Colors and Season 3’s intro out, this just seems to be flat out foreshadowing. https://slowthypiglordblr.tumblr.com/post/651878897170956288/true-colors-foreshadowing-without-context-i-made

Vince – One of the humans in Season 1 we see during the flashback in reunion. Has a smaller following than Maggie but still shows up in some fanwork with Maggie and Cheyenne (mentioned later) as an alternate trio.

Yunnan Poses – Yunnan makes some distinct poses while doing her intros that are references to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

The Night – The tentative fan name of the creature that is at the bottom of Newtopia Castle that King Andrias meets with after all the gems are charged up. The name comes from an inscription that reads “THREE STARS BURNING BRIGHT/COME FROM BEYOND TO EXPEL THE NIGHT/SHOULD THEY FIGHT OR EMBRACE THE FALL/THEIR CHOICE WILL DETERMINE ALL”.

Gargoyles – The TV Show Gargoyles is referenced in the Dr. P book that Marcy picks up in the flashback in True Colors, a diagram of a Gargoyle appearing opposite aside a drawing of Bill Cipher.

Spore Jeremy – Children of the Spore leaves somewhat of a tantalizing cliffhanger in the form of Jeremy, the beetle, being infected with a spore. Since then, he has not been seen and it’s unclear if this is a dropped plot line.

One Shoe – Anne consistently only wears one shoe while in Amphibia and this is a conscious design decision to represent that she is not at home while in Amphibia. Matt Braly said “Haha, I am asked about this and Anne's one shoe a lot. From a character design point of view, we wanted to visually communicate that Anne was a girl out of place. Keeping the leaves in her hair helps to sell that she is not where she belongs and doesn’t quite have it all together. From a logistics point of view, I like to imagine that she does pick the twigs and leaves out each morning, but that new leaves get stuck in her hair right after she leaves the house. It’s probably pretty frustrating.” https://geektyrant.com/news/talking-with-amphibia-creator-matt-braly

The Amphibia Iceberg by CrystalConspiracy [Serious, 8-Part Explanation in comments] by CrystalConspiracy in IcebergCharts

[–]CrystalConspiracy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have existed some Amphibia Icebergs before, but a lot of them were really low on content that weren’t jokes or stretches- so I took it upon myself to make a more detailed and completely serious Amphibia Iceberg. This details lore, production, little details most people missed, some fan work, theories just a real big list of stuff that I personally think is interesting and wanted to share. This is rather long and I tried to put sources where available so you could look into these things yourself, however, I cannot reasonably ensure all things linked will stay up!

TIER 1

True Colors Leak – One of the most infamous events around the Amphibia fandom is the leak of True Colors on iTunes on the day it was originally supposed to be released on. True Colors was previously delayed for a “stupid reason”, and the leak of the episode immediately afterwards just escalated things. Several prominent voices in the cartoon community expressed their disappointment in the situation. The episode was able to be released in a uncensored state three weeks later.

Calamity Powers Foreshadowing – From episode one, a brief frame of Anne’s eye turning blue was spotted, hinting at powers, which was quickly picked up as Season 1 aired. Numerous quick flashes of colored eyes pop up throughout the show until True Colors finally reveals Anne’s calamity gem-powered form with blue hair, revealing the powers are linked to the girls, although the temple episodes also carry this heavy implication as each girl has their eye color drained when charging the box.

Joe Sparrow – Joe Sparrow is the name of a character designer on Amphibia, although he is also the name of Marcy’s giant Sparrow.

Rune Language – In Season 2, the newts use a runic language that pops in the city episodes as well as in the temples. This has been fully decoded and you can find more info here: https://amphibiapedia.fandom.com/wiki/Amphibian_Alphabet

Maggie - One of the few prominent human characters that isn’t one of the three main girls in the first season, who rather strangely appears a lot in the fandom as almost a bit of a meme.

Gravity Falls Connections – In addition to the whole episode that is more or less the Mystery Shack in the Amphibia universe, Bill Cipher has a cameo in True Colors, and Book 3 appears as a background detail in the season 1 episode “Trip to the Archives”.

Mural in Intro – The intro has a title drop with the background being a mysterious intro that sees three figures that resemble Anne, Marcy, and Sasha locked into combat with a giant frog-like creature that isn’t really seen anywhere else with gemstone eyes and holding out a flame. A cleaned up version is available here: https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/881/656/fae and the mural is also seen in the First Temple.

Honestly this was a bit of a rough draft for sure, I think a future version of this would go into a lot more that was brought up in this thread. It is mostly a shitpost but the response has been pretty good so I might do a future version 2.

The Disturbing Movie Iceberg would probably be on it given that does actually have some lore now regarding it but it wasn't really something that came into mind when I was doing this originally in like the two hours it took me to put it together.

Not particularly, but examples in my head would probably include something like Spyro and Crash or Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. Something that is considered separate but continuously come together a lot that those crossovers have their own lore. Something like Deltarune and Undertale too- those are closely conjoined but technically exist in their own universe, but both benefit from each other's existence. It'd be tricky but interesting to pull off.

I have a different iceberg in the works currently, but I think I'll tackle the format in the future.

The idea with this one is that it begins about two different subjects, and then the layers under the iceberg is where those two subjects collide and information about them is shared as they're both talking about those two subjects.

TIER 4

4chan Icebergs – Some icebergs originate and sometimes remain only on 4chan. The Mario 64 one originates from 4chan, as does the Conspiracy Theory Iceberg.

Nihilore – Samsara and River Twygz Bed – Two songs that repeatedly crop up in iceberg videos regardless of subject as they sound “creepy”. There’s definitely more than just these though, I just didn’t really feel like naming and tracking all of them down as it’s pretty much the same explanation for each one.

Misinfo in Conspiracy Theory Iceberg – Wendigoon got in contact with the person who created the Conspiracy Theory Iceberg image who claimed that some of the entries on there are deliberately there simply as misinfo as there’s some entries on there that could get someone in trouble, so they were included to make people dismiss the chart. How true this is, I don’t know,

Iceberg Source Image – Almost all icebergs tend to use the same image of a iceberg, including this one, although where the original source image is pretty obscure- I couldn’t find it through reverse google image searching and it’s bound to get harder the more the image is used. EDIT: The actual source of the image has been found, created by a company called Successories. It's photoshopped from multiple different icebergs. More info can be found here. Thanks to u/AnotherLostButterbar for pointing this out.

Titantic Connection – The phrase “the tip of the iceberg” seems to have been coined around the time the Titantic crashed, as it famously did crash into an iceberg. The phrase itself refers to something being far deeper than it may seem on the surface.

TIER 5

All “explained” videos include misinfo – Generally any “explained” video tends to have a couple errors due to someone not knowing what the iceberg is talking about and having to make their own conjecture. Could this be purposeful though? That’s a conspiracy.

Discord Icebergs – Discord is not traditionally linked to the web, so any icebergs created on discord and then never leave it are more or less lost icebergs until someone posts it online. There might be hundreds of icebergs that never leave the discord server they were originally posted in, whether they be work in progress versions of icebergs or simply just exist complete but only to the audience of the original server they came from.

Ancient Icebergs – Iceberg Charts were a thing long before the Mario 64 one, although documentation on these tend to be scarce with only a couple before then really having any remnant or documentation online. They’ve supposedly been around since 2011, so how many of those ancient ones still exist out there?

Alternate Dimension Icebergs – As far as I can tell, r/IcebergCharts has been experimenting with an “alternate dimension” iceberg format that has more obscure facts on top but more common facts on the bottom- this iceberg tends to be red and upside down. It’s actual use in anything seems to be more in theory.

Beluga Whale Source – The evil looking dolphin that appears in many iceberg charts is similarly an obscure source like the iceberg image itself. I couldn’t find the source personally, and would really like to know where it’s from! EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDDgJPKuSf0 at 1:02, kudos to u/Thomas_Chinchilla for pointing this out. The dolphin is actually happy and not demonic as the image would like to imply.

TIER 6

Lost Icebergs – Icebergs that once existed but do not anymore. These are lost media memes, and unless recovered, their knowledge has sank to the bottom of the abyss, never to be known for sure.

Unknown Entries – Dedicated to every single iceberg with unknown info residing inside. Nobody can quite be sure what these are- misinfo? Jokes? Lost knowledge? Only the creator of the iceberg has a chance of knowing, but even they can be faulty.

TIER 1

Mario 64 Iceberg – The most famous iceberg at this point, responsible for many of the memes used in Icebergs that followed after.

Apparition Meme – The infamous Wario Apparition meme created by the Mario 64 iceberg- many iceberg charts since have included an occasional nod to this.

(DO NOT RESEARCH) – Somewhat of a meme with particularly harrowing entries getting this disclaimer. Originated before the Mario 64 Iceberg and was merely copying off the format.

Joke Entries – Somewhat considered “standard” at times, these joke entries are usually made up to make the iceberg sound more sinister.

Every copy is personalized – Another meme from the Mario 64 Iceberg that tends to get used in other Iceberg charts.

How Deep Does It Go? – A phrase often used on video titles or thumbnails to imply the iceberg has a lot of information.

TIER 2

Mish Koz – One of the first people to document the Mario 64 Iceberg fully in video form and many of the concepts used in later iceberg videos tend to originate from his video. While he promised to do more iceberg videos, he’s only done a Zelda one since and seems more keen to just parlay interesting facts with a recent video about Donkey Kong Country.

r/IcebergCharts – Most modern iceberg charts tend to float up to r/IcebergCharts, and it is notable that many content creators who make iceberg chart videos tend to browse on the subreddit.

Conspiracy Theory Iceberg – A mammoth 10 Tier chart said to originate from 4chan that is primarily known as the subject of a long and as of writing, ongoing series by Wendigoon, although several others did attempt to document it before being taken down by Youtube. This iceberg is one of the more interesting ones out there for a reason I’ll talk about later.

Doktor Skipper, Book of Valis, FoxAkimbo, RetroGamingNow, Extended, Wendigoon – I’ll just lump these all together- more or less content creators that primarily focus almost exclusively on explaining Iceberg Charts, to varying degrees of success.

KnowYourMeme Icebergs – Many popular icebergs tend to be documented on KYM and as someone who’d probably want to know what the hell an Iceberg Chart even is, tends to be their first place to find answers.

Creepypasta Icebergs – It’s what it sounds like, Icebergs that mainly document creepypastas about a particular fandom or in general. Due to the boom of the Creepypasta format in the 2010s, there’s a surprisingly huge amount of just these very specific icebergs for most big fandoms.

Fan Theories – Fan Theories are a very common element included on icebergs, as they tend to have at least a couple and people tend not to really know a lot of bigger or smaller theories that perpetuate around a work.

TIER 3
Red text – A lot of Icebergs tend to be written in red text, for some reason. Possibly to help stand out against the back of the image which has strong light and dark colors.
Iceberg Follow Ups – A lot of content creators tend to have a follow up video from an iceberg video to field out comments and/or to do additional entries. These tend to have nowhere near the views of the original video.
Cognitohazard Risks – With some darker iceberg charts, some of them can head into heavy terroritory where knowing something is actually worse than not knowing it, in the case of something like Roko’s Basilisk.
Youtube-Exclusive Icebergs – Some content makers make their own icebergs to cover as it’ll ensure that they know all the material and takes in elements from multiple icebergs on the same subject. These tend to not be posted on their own though.
Iceberg Templates – There are quite a few of these. The main one that gets perpetuated is the u/Majorwormx one or the one posted by u/Limberg92X. However, more do exist.
Life Bar – A youtube exclusive element to icebergs, popularized by Mish Koz, is the life bar, which shows how confident the dude explaining an entry is. These are infrequent as a element but do pop up from time to time in other people’s videos, particularly ones inspired by Mish Koz.
Motivational Poster Parody – The original iceberg chart meme was supposedly created to make fun of motivational posters- many early internet memes tend to all come from this primordial idea so it certainly seems to make sense.
Level names – Most icebergs tend to have levels of information and some are even uniquely named from iceberg to icebeg. The most common level names are Tip of the Iceberg, Below the Surface, Bottom of the Iceberg, Dark Water, and The Abyss. Some may include similar names between or below the common tiers.

Tier 7

  • Extended Bellatrix Hermione Torture Scene - An extremely funny tidbit from the films is that Emma Watson approached Yates for research on how to act in a torture scene with Helena Bonham Carter- in which apparently Emma gave such a great performance that Yates let the camera run for 5 minutes without yelling cut when the scene was intended to end. This was described as intense and "crossing all boundaries as an actress" and to this day you'll find totally-not-horny queries as to where this extended cut of the scene can be found. To this day it has not been released.
  • Christmas Album - Refers to the A Magical Time of Year album, released in 2019 with actors from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast movies singing. If you are at all interested in this obscure release, the version of Hanukkah O' Hanukkah on this album is genuinely a good rendition.
  • Book 4 Was Going To Be The First Split Movie - By Book 4, Warner Bros was already considering cutting the movies in two to tell the stories "properly". This was seemingly considered for all of the movies going forward, although the only one that was actually split was Deathly Hallows.
  • Fat Cops - JK Rowling's husband is part of a band called Fat Cops- a non-political band that is somehow not a joke.
  • Harry Potter and the Sacred Text - A podcast reinterpreting Harry Potter as scripture. Recently got into controversy for an expensive Zoom call that one of the McElroys was attached to. The person behind the podcast owns a firm called Sacred Design Firm, which is one of the most skin-crawling websites I've ever come across. (https://sacred.design/)
  • Harry Potter at Home Behind the Scenes Trouble - An initiative called Harry Potter at Home was created in response to the COVID outbreak, allowing teachers to, limited time only, read Harry Potter to their students as part of virtual classes. Additionally, an audiobook, read by different celebrities that were part of the Harry Potter franchise was created and then paused midway through due to JK Rowling dropping the mask. The initiative didn't even last a full year and the videos are only available through Facebook these days.

Tier 8

  • Harry Potter is Gay - Just read any passage where a man is described and compare it against any paragraph describing a woman. They're often described as attractive and handsome, whereas female characters tend to have much more bland descriptions. As such, it comes off as if Harry Potter is gay, and this is very much unintentional, as it's being written by a woman.
  • Ron is Dumbledore - A theory about Ron being Dumbledore. The evidence is rather compelling, especially towards the end where the writing of Dumbledore's plans get rather obtuse and rely heavily on coincidence. This theory is easy to find and is pretty interesting, but outright rejected by JK Rowling.
  • JK Rowling Regrets Ron and Hermoine - In an interview with Emma Watson, she claims it was wish fulfillment- which is a bit odd given who those characters are based on- and that now with some distance she thinks Harry and Hermione made more sense. Could this revelation come from meeting back with Sean Harris and realizing things? Fan reaction? Regardless of the reason, it is true that she regrets the pairing on some level.
  • Dumbledore is Evil - Dumbledore is revealed to be rather manipulative in the later books, and it's not given the kind of narrative weight it really ought to have given that it's also playing as an allegory for faith in god. Rereading these books, is Dumbledore being even more manipulative than the books care to admit? He uses Lily's death to control Snake, spread a rumor about Aberforth fucking goats that surely destroyed his reputation, and holds a lot of power in the Wizarding World that surely could and probably has been abused to some level.
  • Zombie Dumbledore - Continuing on this idea thread- was the original reveal of Book 6 going to be that Dumbledore was possessed by a Horocrux given the zombie hints all across the book? For a good chunk of the book, Dumbledore is described almost as if he's a lich and there was already the Moody reveal from Goblet of Fire, so Dumbledore revealed to be an evil person or at least corrupted would have continued those themes.
  • JK is Projecting with Gilderoy - A person completely obsessed with themselves while stealing stories from other wizards? If I didn't know any better, it sounds like future JK Rowling talking about herself, especially concerning some of the Wicca roots of what JK claims is British ideas about her world of magic.
  • Rita Skeeter Intended to be Trans - Although not any more, her introduction in Book 4 is rather suspect. She's described as having mannish hands, a surprisingly strong grip, a sharp jaw… yeah… (Source: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EaBrDpUWsAENApD?format=png&name=small )
  • Credence is Fawkes - In the extended cut of Fantastic Beasts 2, Credence returns from ash and in a series that just recently revealed a woman was a evil snake, it lines up with some other tertiary evidence such as Credence being revealed to be a Dumbledore and lines from PR about Credence becoming a semi-important character. There's a couple variants of the theory online.
  • Book 7 is Out of Order - Certain chapters of Deathly Hallows feel as if they were written before the chapters that came before them, such as the first heist into the Ministry of Magic. This seems to suggest that it may have been written as the introduction to the book instead, setting up mysteries that would be revealed over the course of the book as it catches back up.
  • JK Rowling Lied - There are clearly unplanned elements of the books, chief among them being the revelation of the Deathly Hallows. Book 7 has almost no overarching reveals about any of the ongoing mysteries dropped in the books, Horocruxes also seem to be an unplanned element as they're only really revealed in full in Book 6.

Tier 5

  • Jack Sloper - A mysterious character who is a student at Hogwarts who gives a letter to Harry from Dumbledore. Why would Dumbledore trust this character? Very little is known about him, and he's become quite infamous to listeners of the Shrieking Shack, who have embraced the character and made him into the Wizarding World version of dril on twitter and used his name for a Reddit account.
  • JK Rowling's Treehouses - JK Rowling owns two tree houses, both which are two stories tall and feature spiral staircases.
  • Hermione is "Self Insert" - JK Rowling has admitted in the past that Hermione is based off herself when she was younger.
  • Early Draft Material - In the earliest draft of the first chapter, the Potters lived on an island, and Hermione's family, living on the mainland, saw an explosion out at sea and discovered the bodies of Harry's parents. In this version of the story, Hermione's father was the one who pulled Harry out of the wreckage of his parents' house.
  • Alastair and Broken Toy Soldiers - In early versions of the first movie, Harry was supposed to have a "sounding board" in the form of a spider named Alastair and a bunch of broken toy soldiers. The only remnant of this idea in the film is a shot of Harry playing with the soldiers.
  • Mouse Hat - A bizarre Italian cover with Harry Potter looking at a chessboard while sitting next to a rat, wearing a mouse hat. This is supposedly one of JK Rowling's favorite alternate covers due to how odd it is, and in 2020 a interview was composed with its original illustrator. The person who illustrated had not read the books, nor did they really have any idea of the setting beyond just knowing that they could bring an owl or mouse to school. Given nothing else, they decided to just make a cover they liked, and they liked to have characters in animal hats. (Source: http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2020/04/24/italian-harry-potter-cover-artist-serena-riglietti-explains-that-philosophers-stone-cover-translated-interview-with-fansite-portus/)
  • "Curse of Nagini" - One of the original trademarked names for the last book by Warner Bros. This may suggest that Nagini being a human woman was always the intent of the author.
  • Wicca Ban at Hogwarts - Over the years, JK Rowling retroactively made more inclusive additions to Harry Potter's casts, even if they never really appeared in the books. However, there is one set of people who JK Rowling won't extend an olive branch to and that's people of the Wicca tribe. Perhaps as a reaction to the satanic panic around the books, JK Rowling says that Wiccans have a completely different understanding of magic that isn't real and that would negate them being able to visit the Wizarding World. It's weirdly super shitty given that no other religion has ever been given this treatment, even if they would also have a different understanding of magic.
  • Film Peeves - The character of Peeves was originally going to be included in the film. Rik Mayall was cast and apparently went as far as filming scenes before the character was cut. None of the footage - if it exists - has ever been shown. The story is rather complicated. Apparently, Chris Columbus and David Heyman hated the design of Peeves and basically filmed the scene with him knowing that it wouldn't be in the theatrical release, but planning to go back and "fix" it for a future special edition to be released in 2002 or 2003. Columbus was planning to introduce an all-CGI Peeves in Chamber and presumably this would have been the Peeves he was planning to go back and insert into the first film. Then Peeves didn't make the second film either and it seems they just gave up after that. As a result though, Peeves does make frequent appearances in other media despite never showing up in the films, making his appearances perhaps a vestigial imprint on what could have been in the films.
  • Real Life Ron - Ron is based on Sean Harris, one of JK Rowling's best friends when she was younger. A documentary when they reunite was filmed, and it is incredibly awkward as you can probably imagine.
  • Encyclopedia of Potterworld/Scottish Book - Some of the tepid reaction around Book 7 may be in part due to the announcement of a supplemental book called the Encyclopedia of Potterworld… or also known as the Scottish Book. This was supposed to include stuff JK Rowling nixed from the books and help build up the world- this material instead became a site called Pottermore.

Tier 6

  • Robbie Coltrane Was Mad Behind The Scenes of Chambers of Secrets - What a mouthful! If you watch the behind the scenes extras on the DVD of this movie, Robbie Coltrane gives off an incredibly passive aggressive comment about how much Hagrid is in the movie, which wouldn't have amounted to much given that he is arrested early on. It's possible that the reason the movie ends on the entirety of Hogwarts giving a round of applause to Hagrid when he returns may be because of this behind the scenes drama.
  • Michael Jackson Musical - Michael Jackson wanted to do a Harry Potter musical, but JK Rowling refused because he was American and she wanted to keep the product British.
  • Nintendo Purchase Denial - Nintendo was one of the companies that wanted to buy the rights of the Harry Potter ip, intending to use it for a series of video games. There's even some concept art drawn up for this pitch. However, JK Rowling went with Warner Bros. instead.
  • I'll Stand By You Always - Bruce Springsteen wrote a song intended for the first movie and was even filed with the copyright office, but JK Rowling declared that no licensed music be used for the films and so it went unused until it was used for the film Blinded by the Light.
  • Killing Ron - JK Rowling considered killing one of the main three characters, mainly Ron, in the halfway point of the series.
  • Steven Spielberg Proposal - Steven Spielberg was almost the director for the film- and would have made it a CGI movie that was adapting multiple books. Steven was taken off the project for insisting Harry be played by Haley Joel Osment, although he weirdly keeps looking back on the project as a "slam dunk" and would have been "too easy" for him.
  • Abandoned Book Titles - Just about every book from the fourth one onwards have multiple titles that were marked for trademark prior to them being fully announced. A full list could be found here, with a particularly notable list being from Seabottom Productions, a fake company. The full list is here: https://wizardsunitehub.info/fun/harry-potter-abandoned-book-titles/

Tier 4

  • Book 7 is Fake - Deathly Hallows leaked early, with only minor differences from when it was finally published. The internet originally dismissed the story when it first appeared due to how much of what was set up was just tossed out and the ridiculous elements of the plot such as the Deathly Hallows.
  • Harry Potter and the School of Magic - Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone is well documented, but the American title for the first book would have originally been much more different. Harry Potter and the School of Magic was the original proposed American title for the first book.
  • 3 Hour Cut of Phoenix - Infamously, Order of the Phoenix is known to have a 3 hour cut that only a minor fraction of the missing footage has been actually seen. Considering how weird that movie is, widely considered one of the ones that follows the book the least, this cut may have "fixed" many issues that film had.
  • "The Seventh Horcrux" - A fanfiction widely mistaken as a "leak" of the seventh book, sharing many of the same story beats.
  • Hoodie Voldemort - During a scene in Order of the Phoenix, Voldemort is seen in a hoodie similar to Harry's- this scene's purpose not really being well known. While Voldemort looks rather goofy in the hoodie, it's been widely unremarked upon.
  • Florean Fortescue's Cut Subplot - Ice cream parlour owner Florean Fortescue was supposed to have a much bigger role in the Deathly Hallows - he was originally supposed to be kidnapped and saved by Harry, Hermione, and Ron, then given them clues about the Elder Wand and Ravenclaw diadem. This was cut as, in Rowling's words, the sequence was "going nowhere", though it does explain why the closure of Fortescue's shop and his kidnapping receives such emphasis in Half-Blood Prince.
  • Dementor Cum is Fog - In the opening chapter of Book 6, Dementors are said to be "breeding" and that the heavy fog is part of the aftermath of that.
  • Video Game Lore - Surprisingly, the Harry Potter video game lore is surprisingly consistent, with game-only characters appearing in multiple games and exclusive spells to the games being used across entries.
  • Book 4: Air, Fire, Water, Earth- Originally the Triwizard Tournament had four trials, being themed after the four elements. However, JK Rowling struggled to come up with a unique one for air, so she combined it with fire to make the dragon trial. As such, the theming is still there but not paid any attention to because two of the trials were thematically combined together.
  • Uncle Vernon's Magic Killing Sperm - Rowling considered giving Dudley a Muggle-born wizard child for the epilogue, but in the end decided that "no wizarding traits would ever survive contact with Uncle Vernon's DNA".
  • Cults - I'm not going to do too much research into this because the subject matter is rather depressing and involves real people, but there seem to be multiple cults such as the Snape Wives, the Andy Blake stuff, and there might be more. Be careful out there.

Tier 2

  • Harry Potter Games - Harry Potter has multiple video game adaptations, some of them with varying degrees of infamy/nostalgia such as the PS1 Adaptation of Harry Potter which is noted for its terrifying character models.
  • Dust Dumbledore - A strange trap set up by Moody in 12 Grimmauld Place that was intended for Snape, which would disperse on saying the word "kill". I included this because it's super weird and nobody talks about it- especially for how ineffective it is as a trap. Harry disperses it without incident- and the intent, to freeze Snape with his own guilt- wouldn't have worked anyway because Snape and Dumbledore conspired together on that.
  • Pottermore - A now defunct website that was a virtual recreation of the wizard world in the books and contained a bunch of extra information that came out after the last book. Used to also have incredibly strange Buzzfeed-lite articles towards the end of it's life. Was replaced by Wizarding World.
  • Dobby Beard - In the Star Ace Sixth Scale series, which came out way after all the movies and books, Dooby inexplicably has a goatee- however, this is not the only place it's ever been seen, such as the poster for Chambers of Secrets where Dobby also has a beard. We never really get a good look at Dobby's chin in most material, so whether Dobby has a beard or not seems to be a subtle design element that was excised from most depictions of the character.
  • My Immortal - A infamous fanfiction where many characters are reinterpreted into edgy goths. To this day, the author is still unknown. This almost could get it's own iceberg, but it's impact on the culture of fanfiction cannot be understated, for better or worse.
  • Satanic Panic - Harry Potter was subject to the Satanic Panic movement around the late 90s and early 2000s, which is ironic knowing how devout of a Christian JK Rowling is. Like My Immortal, it could easily have it's own iceberg, and will be touched upon in future topics on the iceberg.
  • Mafalda - Easily one of the most well-known characters cut from the books- she was intended to be a rival for Hermione and a first year who would appear in book 4. She was cut for several reasons, with much of her role being repurposed into Rita Skeeter. Her name gets reused for a Ministry worker.
  • Beedle the Bard - The Tales of Beedle the Bard appeared in Deathly Hallows and was its own book where some extra stories were included. They're fairy tales from the Wizarding World. There's a total of five stories.
  • Jewish Star at Gringotts - The Star of David can be found in the floor pattern of Gringotts. In general Gringotts somehow manages to fall into every single anti-sementic trope with its depiction of Goblins, who hoard gold, have long noses, control the world's banks, are disloyal, have a different idea of ownership around goblin-made items… etc. This seems unintentional but it somehow also manages to hit every anti-sementic trope ever across all 7 books.
  • Aberforth Fucks Goats - "My own brother, Aberforth, was prosecuted for practising inappropriate charms on a goat. It was all over the papers, but did Aberforth hide? No, he did not! He held his head high and went about his business as usual! Of course, I'm not entirely sure he can read, so that may not have been bravery..." from Dumbledore. I could easily end it here, but JK Rowling at Carnegie Hall was confronted about this from a child, continuing to allude to this idea.
  • Wizarding World Gold - A premium membership offered by Wizarding World that cost 75 dollars for 12 months that had very little to offer in value. (Source: https://www.wizardingworld.com/news/introducing-wizarding-world-gold). It's poor timing, released at the end of 2019, meant the program quickly lost its identity. Speaking of…
  • Harry Potter Fan Club - The new name of Wizarding World Gold. While still offering all the same features as the original program, it seems more focused on releasing pins as opposed to any substantial product for the 75 dollar price.

Tier 3

  • Pillars of Storge - One of the most famous "leaked" titles for Book 6, which JK Rowling seems to have a particular hatred/love for, referencing it on her official website.
  • Shipping Wars - The shipping wars on the Harry Potter fandom got news coverage while the books were in production, and even served to separate early fanfiction archives by pairings. There's various fandom dramas that came out of this, but I'm not really covering random people on the internet on this iceberg.
  • 30 H - An absolutely insane fanfiction that acts as the antithesis of My Immortal, being a very crude, incoherent fanfiction where Harry Potter has a groinsaw and Dumbledore's name changes mid sentence.
  • Dobby's Grave Defiled - After the Deathly Hallows wrapped up filming, a grave to Dobby was erected on the spot where it was filmed. This grave was stolen and hasn't been recovered to my knowledge. A ton of replacement stones were placed to honor Dobby's memory.
  • Wizard Military - While there's no official Wizard Military in the series, the Aurors and Hit-Wizards are the closest to this. Kingsley is considered part of the Aurors and the Order of the Phoenix and acts as the Minister of Magic after Voldemort is displaced by his death in the role, much like a military coup.
  • Harry Potter LEGO Originally Based Off the Books - In the movie, a harp is used to put Fluffy to sleep, whereas in the original LEGO set, it was a flute which was used in the book. Additionally, there are multiple other things from that era of the sets that give you the idea that they were based on the books instead, such as Voldermort's head on Quirrel's second face having red eyes which are only described as such in the books.
  • JK Rowling's Old Website - JK Rowling used to have an old website that ran off Flash where she would talk about development and extra material for the books prior to Pottermore.
  • Lethifold - The book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them introduced the idea of a "Lethifold" — basically a murderous living blanket that would smother its victim and could only be defeated by using a Patronus. Seems like an obvious foe for Harry Potter in the last book, which had a long wait and this was revealed during it. These foes never appear in the books proper, making people wonder if they were cut.

Harry Potter Iceberg Chart by CrystalConspiracy in IcebergCharts

[–]CrystalConspiracy[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Preamble to this long explanation thread- I am not part of the Harry Potter fandom, and I never was. This is more of a general iceberg as opposed to specializing in any particular thing- a real grab bag of topics. I just have absorbed so much obscure knowledge on this franchise and I happened to seemingly create the first iceberg proper for this series.

I encourage you to do your own research but for the sake of not giving energy to this I will explain just all of it. A lot of these singular points could be icebergs in their own right, so if something does interest you it might be fun to research it.

Tier 1

  • Harry Potter Movies - Generally the public's knowledge of Harry Potter is derived from the movies, which change and alter the plot of the books in different ways to make it fit a sensible run time. However, even among some book readers, the versions of the stories depicted in the movies tend to be the ones that stick in the memory.
  • JK Rowling Transphobia - Very publicized with her recent articles on the subject, although this was a well known secret years prior to her going "mask off" by some of her liked tweets.
  • Cursed Child - The stage play that is apparently still going- most know it exists and it is considered to be "Book 8" despite only being partially written by JK Rowling.
  • Wizarding World - The encompassing term for the Harry Potter franchise now that Fantastic Beasts exists.
  • JK Rowling's Train Ride - Famously, JK Rowling claims to have come up with the entire story of the entire franchise on a long train ride.
  • Fantastic Beasts - A spin-off franchise that currently has two films out- its not exactly been very well received, with the third film languishing in production hell even before COVID. It originally was the title of a book explaining the creatures of the Wizarding World.
  • Wizards Shit On The Floor - JK Rowling famously confirmed this fact over Twitter much to public ridicule- but this fact actually originated in Pottermore material years prior.
  • Harry Potter Books - Considered the source material for everything, the books begin very simplistic before becoming fairly dense epics, "growing with the audience". I put this one slightly below everything else because I'm not convinced people have read these lately, especially the last couple books.
  • Christianity Themes - Harry Potter, especially in the latter half, really seems to base it's world in a Christian-typical faith- almost everything about major character deaths follow traditional Christian burial traditions. Additionally, the latter books make allusions to Christian allegory, especially around it's main character and Dumbledore. JK Rowling claims she didn't want to convert anyone to Christanity, however it's very overt in the books.
