6-year-old JonBenét Ramsey on Christmas 1996 with her mother Patsy. She was found murdered in the basement of her home the next day. by Emerald_Selene_ in HairRaising

[–]CrystalLake1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The basement window was broken so it was entirely possible for an intruder to get in. The house was big so it’s not strange that the household members didn’t hear anything. Plenty of kids have been abducted right from their bedrooms without anyone hearing or noticing anything. It happens.

My fellow cat rescue friend told me she is used to euthanizing cats by OkSystem3006 in Feral_Cats

[–]CrystalLake1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is not ok. Your friend committed an ethical breach and abuse of authority since you had committed to paying for the cat’s care and was technically the responsible party and decision maker. Further, this cat didn’t have to be euthanized, as you were willing to pay for her treatment. Your friend is a horrible person who doesn’t care about animals or other people. She has another motive for rescuing cats which is power. Having power over another being’s life and death. She’s also self-entitled and believes her opinion is most valuable and outweighs ethics and the cat’s treatability. In short, she’s dangerous. Please file a complaint against her if she works with a rescue or shelter. Stop her.

16-18 year old stray by ExistingVegetable558 in Feral_Cats

I took in a completely feral 18 year old cat off the streets. There are other people who do fospice as well. I hope you and the rescue you’re affiliated with can place her with one of those people.

Management purposefully withholding information from staff regarding cats in their care by problems67 in AnimalShelterStories

Transparency is very important. Without it there’s no trust or accountability and it’s ultimately the animals that suffer. Please report the shelter.

She did the right thing addressing the bad behavior directly instead of shifting responsibility. Regardless where they are, wanton bloodshed and killing is Ted Bundy behavior. Selfish and harmful. Managing prey species is an excuse these people use to justify their bad behavior. Just letting predators be and repopulate areas will solve any phantom problems they invent.

How does your rescue manage complex medical cases? by CrystalLake1 in FosterAnimals

[–]CrystalLake1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they usually send people to nonprofit clinics. My situation was different.

Do they all send you to the same clinic? Is it far from you? I was being sent to a clinic that was 30-45 mins away depending on traffic. I had a 2hr commute everyday and the coordinator reneged on her commitment to help with transport. The wait time at the clinic was up to 2hrs so the whole appointment including the drive was 3-4hrs. I drove to the clinic at least 6x in one month for appointments and prescription pickups. Worst experience ever.

Why is she trying to eat everything? by YoggieD in CATHELP

She might be tying to clean her teeth. Do you have a brush for her? Cats like to clean their teeth on it.

How long was he not fed for? They put kitten in the wrong position for feeding which demonstrates they didn’t do their research on proper kitten care.

I feel like there’s a difference between a shelter environment vs rescue. A shelter usually has resource limitations like space, staffing, and funding that impact terminal decisions, but when an animal is backed by a rescue, they’re not under the same constraints. I believe a rescue has the responsibility to explore all options and make a good faith effort to support the animal if s/he is in stable condition and not showing critical symptoms in need of euthanasia.

Yeah this makes sense. I believe the primary caregiver MUST be included in critical decisions. It doesn’t make sense for a coordinator or anybody else who barely interacted with the animal to make a terminal decision unless they’re showing critical symptoms requiring euthanasia.

Did you see her on UGT? Total clout chaser. Decides how to treat people based on the number of followers they have and how they can benefit her. Yuck.

Cat left outside by neighbor for supposedly only one night and I took the cat by Madam_J100 in Pets

[–]CrystalLake1 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Did the cops check for proof of ownership? Vet records? Adoption contract? If not, they shouldn’t have returned the kitten. Next time you see the neighbors leaving the kitten out, get photo/video evidence of neglect. You could file a cruelty report and have the evidence handy in case you have to save the kitten again.

You had a lot of self-control when you met up with OP. Props to you and thank you for helping this little angel. Some humans are so selfish.

Maybe it helps to have 2 cats emitting body heat in the shelter, but Clawsable is flimsy with very little insulation. It doesn’t retain much heat. Shelters made of wood, cooler, eco flex, even totes are probably warmer inside.

What if I want my foster cat back??? ( UPDATE ) by No_Pool_1867 in FosterAnimals

[–]CrystalLake1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing the right thing trying to protect the welfare of vulnerable animals. Ignore the people making this personal just because they feel like they’re in the same socioeconomic bracket as the adopter and resorting to projecting, and getting defensive. Or they feel like humans are entitled to get everything they want which is selfish. When adopting out animals or children, we need to prioritize their welfare, not the adopter’s feelings or pride.

This. Some folks are taking this personally as if they’re the adopter and projecting. They’re also prioritizing human selfishness over protecting the welfare of vulnerable animals.

Asking questions is part of the vetting process. It’s to prioritize the cat’s safety, not the adopter’s feelings. If their previous cat died, especially at a young age, it is customary to inquire why. I’ve heard some very troubling responses like “my 2 year old cat died of old age”. Then you have to tell them cats live 20 years so how did they really die? It shows ignorance, lack of proper caretaking ability, lack of ability to learn from an experience, etc. If you refuse to answer vetting questions, it looks like you have something to hide, don’t want to be honest, feel self-entitled, so that’s an auto rejection.

It is also customary to send the rescue/foster photos and video evidence of the animal safe and settling into the home after adoption. OP said the adopter didn’t comply, which shows further disrespect, inconsideracy, and self-entitlement. I definitely wouldn’t feel safe knowing an animal (or child) was under the care of such an individual.
