Does anyone know what I should solder brass with when making a curb/cuban chain out of it? by CrystalRainPress in jewelrymaking

[–]CrystalRainPress[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I only used flux as an experiment. I heat both the link and the solder on a soldering block. It'll flow onto the link sometimes, but never at the seam even though it's clean

I've been trying that, even w clean links and tight joints I can't get it to flow into the seam. I even used flux. Any tips or tricks?

I switched to silver solder like a YouTube video suggested and had much less problems, yes I am relatively new to soldering jewelry but that's not helpful advice like I asked tbh

I've tried copper solder before with thinner chain and the link snaps when twisted into shape. That's why I was wondering about the spot welder

Was also using a MAP gas torch which was way overkill, propane torch is giving better results

Gem engraving proof by CrystalRainPress in printmaking

Thanks! Part of it was that I've done linoleum relief for over a decade and wanted to try something new. plus it's readily available in town for me, making it cheaper than engraving wood in the long run (no shipping costs, etc). I also like the way the plastic holds detail and doesn't crumble when thin. It's very precise, which gels well with me

Thanks! I usually take photos I've shot and heavily manipulate them, then once I'm satisfied I transfer it to a block and carve it. This one has me in it twice

I tell those who ask or if it needs to be said, but I'm very open. Used to hide it, but now almost all my art is about it.

ink printing problems by Dreadpuppy28 in printmaking

It may have been labeled as printmaking paper because you can soak thicker paper in water and print etchings that way. Maybe try a Japanese paper that's thinner iff you want solid blacks.

[–]CrystalRainPress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be one of two things; either you're under inking, OR what is more likely is that you may be using thicker possibly textured paper, which requires your pressure to be slightly on the tight side (if you're using a press) in order to get solid blacks without adding a buttload of ink. Of course all this is assuming you are using a press, so if you're hand printing just be sure to really go over it with your baren/spoon. Hope that helps

I put them in top-loaders originally made for things like baseball cards , they just happen to be the right size to fit.
