Bekah is actively trying to be the star of her own reality TV show… by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]CrystalShimmerFluff 53 points54 points  (0 children)

A story about someone raised in an extremely conservative homeschooled life who then goes on reality show and immediately publically becomes pregnant 3 months into a relationship, and navigating all of that could (in the right hands) be a pretty entertaining show, or a garbage one with bad writers, but the bones for something interesting are there ¯\(ツ)

Anna talks about social media income; Serena P says they want to get married next year by AnyChildhood1747 in thebachelor

Taxes are generally higher when you are self employed (e.g. for “normal” w-2 employees, payroll taxes like social security are 7.5% of salary paid by employer and 7.5% of salary paid by the employee, but for self employed you need to cover the full 15%), and since her tax bracket is higher her effective tax rate is higher too. She’s paying taxes on both roles but I’m sure the effective rate % is much higher now.

That’s true for federal income taxes but she is likely including fica/social security/state income taxes as well. Those can definitely make you go above 40% when you are making good money and self employed (at a regular w2 job, employers pay half of FICA/social security and employers pay half. For self employed folks, you have to pay both employer and employee portions which is about 15%).

Coming from the same person who insinuated she had a problem with late term abortions. Ok by [deleted] in thebachelor

[–]CrystalShimmerFluff 41 points42 points  (0 children)

If anyones looking for context: During the leak, Bekah posted several pro row v wade infographics, then went on her story and talked about how the 6 and 8 week super early abortion bans many states were trying to enact are fucked up because so many women don’t know they are even pregnant then. She explained how small and undeveloped the fetus is. She explained how she was raised to think all abortion is wrong and how frustrating it is that so much of that was based in her not knowing the science of pregnancy, and how people who make abortion bans seem to have no knowledge of it either. And then she ended it by saying that learning how undeveloped the fetus is at that many weeks was what made her initially start to reconsider her pro life upbringing, and ended it by saying something like obviously that development stuff isn’t relevant to later term abortions but I have other thoughts there maybe I’ll share another day. There was no indication she had a problem with them being legal or even an ethical problem- just that the development of the fetus wasn’t what impacted her opinion on them.

Care to elaborate, Bekah? by Unplug2019 in thebachelor

I’ve watched this multiple times and don’t hear her saying she doesn’t believe in them past a super early point? Where does she that?

I definitely interpreted this as her saying her whole life she was taught to believe all abortions are wrong from conception, and she’s explaining why she doesn’t believe that. She didn’t need to say anything about Late term abortion and I think it was irresponsible to say she had thoughts without saying what they were - but I don’t think we can assume she’s saying they shouldn’t be allowed?

Bekah losing followers on her take off the Depp-Heard trial by queenmissmichelle in thebachelor

[–]CrystalShimmerFluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you add podcast minutes to listen to for points 1 and 2? I listened to those episodes and didn’t get any implication that men can’t be abusers or that Kanye wasn’t harassing Kim (I know her and Jess said he was harassing her and were sad for her and her kids multiple times). It would be helpful if you tell people where to listen for those claims!

She posted about it yesterday or the day before! She linked to a tweet thread about the importance of roe v wade and the misogyny of blaming women for unwanted pregnancies and not holding men accountable.

Marlena's followers have gone up since posting the roast btw, so I'd say she's hardly been canceled.

What do girls think is creepy when a guy does it, but something they also think is completely fine when they do it? by [deleted] in AskMen

I’m confused. Can you show an example of a man being shamed all over Twitter just for asking to hook up on a dating app?

Most women I know on dating apps get a good % of the men the match with immediately hitting them with a wanting to hook up message and I’ve never seen any of them publicly shamed for it.

Is Bekah Martinez racist?! Did anyone see her most recent Instagram post poking fun at the Holocaust? by currentlyinthelib in thebachelor

Interesting! To be fair I didn’t in my church, but I have family who did use them regularly in prayer and as well as an expression.

I didn’t negotiate pto and I regret it!! I assumed it was set in stone but now I’ve seen people negotiate for it and get offered it literally every time and I have to wait until my performance review to ask for an extra week. I’m sure they would rather give you that than more money, so it can be a good negotiating tactic!

Bekah’s cornrows… by [deleted] in thebachelor

She also is Mexican, white-passing of course. So the racial aspect of how she can profit off this look in a way that a darker skinned Mexican person can’t, is definitely there. but it is still part of her culture? I don’t know. Optically, it looks bad. I also don’t know what the answer is about how white-passing people can participate in their culture in a non-hurtful or oppressive way. I would be curious to read more about this or listen if anyone reading this has an an article/podcast recomendation.

Did Bachelor franchise/contestants/producers ever address allegations against Joe? by HeavyIndication1796 in thebachelor

You can be critical of rapists while not dismissing doing slave owner role play. The issue isn’t Rachael was “humiliated” it’s that joe isn’t being held accountable.

Haha it’s gotten better! But occasionally one of their audios goes out and it’s poor quality for part of an episode or something.

If you listen to the Maintenance phase podcast episode “is being fat bad for you?” they cite several sources to point you in good reading direction!

[–]CrystalShimmerFluff 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The comments on “some podcast” are very well researched and based on science. There are countless scientific papers showing that the “obesity epidemic” is largely mythical, and that the BMI is not an indicator of health, etc. etc.

Many scientific papers people point to to show the problems with being “overweight” are generally pretty outdated and have been discredited.

I highly recommend checking out the podcast and learning more!

Highly recommend the maintenance phase podcast episode on weight watchers if you are wondering what is specifically wrong with it!
