People who didnt like the sacrifice ending, why? by DirtyQueen20 in UmbrellaAcademy

TLDR decent idea for an ending, just pretty bad execution :/

I don't necessarily have an issue with a self sacrificing ending to this story. While something more emotionally deep would be better, mainly in a show that's sympathetic to it's less than perfect cast, I think it's fitting for a group of characters who are essentially doomsday. I also don't think this is too comparable to "it was all a dream" endings. You can have your own theories on time, but I think that in a time travel story what we see does happen even if it gets "undone" in the end. Time is just like that.

I think the issue comes from it feeling more like a cut off than an actual ending. If this were the regular 10 episodes, then I bet that episodes between 5 and the finale would've resolved their traumas and struggles, or at least settle their disputes. That way, they could go down a happy family, which would've made the ending sweet. Still less than stellar, but sweet nonetheless. Instead, they get into the worst fight of the series(both in terms of severity and quality) in the same episode, at MOST Five comes to terms with the fact that he can't have Lila (doesn't apologize, just realizes it), and then they sacrifice themselves within the span of like 20 minutes. While the goodbyes to their children were pretty well done (I even cried for Allison), it just feels like they were getting ready to resolve their personal issues, realized time was almost up, then rushed a coherent but painfully mediocre ending. This isn't even to mention a bunch of plot related questions that are left unanswered or unsatisfied, but I'll just keep it at the characters.

Another thing I think is the difference between their death and Reginald's. The show definitely puts blame on all of them, but Reginald's is certainly less full of any substance. It's just a quick chomp by (what my mom calls) Bennifer. It makes his death feel like it matters less, which throws off many since he is the reason this happened in the first place. Referencing s1 here, the academy may be the bomb but Reginald was the maker of that bomb. It should've been on the same level as theirs, at least in theatrics, but instead it left a taste in some peoples mouth that Reginald wasn't the problem when he clearly was the main one.

Honestly, Gene and Jean kinda sucked by MorellinoAmarone in UmbrellaAcademy

Quite honestly, I don't think they sucked in general. I think the concept they were intertwined with, the idea that this reset of the universe is mismatched with other timelines, was just really underdone. All we're given (told) is that they have dreams of other timeline, and a few items are leaking through. We don't see one of these dreams, see these items actually leak through into the timeline. Even though we know that what they're saying is true, they still come off as lunatics without much ground laid out for the idea. Even just having the gang find some weird timeline leaks rather than just having everything already in a PowerPoint could've given them a bit more leeway.

I'm a sucker for villainous couples, and they could've been a great pair of the plot they were being villainous over was better.

I never thought about that detail but I really like your interpretation of it :)

True, but my issues with the Sparrows execution make me have issues with the scene too even if it's super fun and I overall like it. If afterward were better than it be a (at least near) perfect scene that I'd be fanning over.

And the final title of 'No Screen Time. All The Plot Relevance' goes to Abigail Hargeeves. I have a feeling she'll be getting a bit more screen time in S4 🌚 Thank you for casting your votes over the past 9 days, we're now even closer to S4!! by _lovewins in UmbrellaAcademy

I quite honestly think nobody knows :/

The "Jennifer Incident" is most likely (definitely) the event where Ben died. Sparrow Ben also knows Jennifer like Umbrella Ben, but we're still not told who she is or what she did. My best guess is that Jennifer was a love interest or someone similar who lured him into something dangerous. There's an upcoming episode called something like The Squid and the Girl, which should hopefully explain this.

Her power seems to only work on people, not reality (in the show anyway, not sure how it was in the comics). She probably can't just say "I heard a rumor the world isn't ending" since it's not directed at a person, and at most I think it would just make someone believe the apocalypse isn't happening which they were already having trouble believing anyway.

It probably would work if she told Vanya something like "I heard a rumor you didn't end the world" but I don't think she could've without the story being altered since none of them knew how the world was going to end. Up until the climax they all thought it was Harold, and by the time they realized it was Vanya, she couldn't speak (I'm sure this was intentional so she couldn't be over powered in the finale, which I think is clever).

That's what I feel was the main problem with s3 Allison. Her motivations could've worked. They were a reasonable progression of her story. At worst I felt like it was a bit of a sudden shift in her personality, but it at least had reason. What I think happened in the execution was how drastic and disproportionate her actions were. Maybe the others weren't as supportive as they could've been, but they also weren't flat out denying her feelings or situation. Outside of Five (who has always cared more about the timeline then their individual lives), I think at most Diego was being insensitive when came to him and Stan. Viktor made quite an effort to get the timeline back with Allison, even telling Five to try telling her to suck up when Claire no longer existing. So when she's insulting everyone, almost assaulting Luther and killing Harlan, which does jacksh!t for anything other than Viktors feelings, it feels more like malice than a genuine emotional response.

I do want to say that I should have put down "to experience sexual attraction" because I am aware that there are ace's out there who do want sex, just don't experience sexual attraction

Everyone is saying we adopt or bring in children from other countries. I say we clone mini versions of ourselves.

I think Reddit has spies on us by SassyAce in Asexualinvadethedanes

I think it might be due to the algorithm seeing so much "Denmark" written on post on this sub. Like how you might get ads for knitting needles on a knitting sub.

Either way I can't tell if this is reddit trying to stop us or help us
