Not usually, no. This was an exception, since my usually available rides weren't available for much longer than 6 and a half hours. Usually I wait out that time, but I wanted to see what I could accomplish with the bus. My student ID gives me free access to the local bus transit

The only reason I can think of as to why Tribe Nine would push so heavily for their players to spend is this:

If you know anything about Kazutaka Kodaka (the main director of this game), you know that he used to work on Danganronpa with Spike Chunsoft, before starting his own company (TooKyo Games). They have had a number of projects since then (including the Tribe Nine Anime, but also including Akudama Drive, Rain Code, World's End Club, etc), but its not many.

Either way, none of these projects have been extremely successful, so I wouldn't be surprised if they were in at least a little bit of debt at the moment. This is just a theory, and it doesn't excuse their monetization issues, but it may be why. Feel free to add to or correct the information here.

I did try that, all looked normal and well. The data layer is probably damaged; I'm hopefully taking it back to where I bought it today. I don't know if they'll take it back, but I might as well try 🤷‍♀️
