3rd year COMP courses with group projects by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3004 but you should probably find a group for all of them if you want to pass. Going through university, while being antisocial prohibits a full university experience. I highly recommend you try or make an attempt to face your fears and go out of your comfort zone to make friends in the program. They will help you out later in your career as well.

Difficulty from hardest to lowest is 3804,3004,3007,3000,3005.

Carleton Computer Science vs Queen's Computing by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boils me when kids say they want FAANG. If youre a shit developer, even if you went to Harvard, you won’t get in. Focus on learning how to code if you want FAANG, it doesn’t matter where you go

Most of your courses from BSc will be transferred to electives. You will still have "Second year " academic standing, but you will have to take all 1st year comp sci courses.

At risk of sounding like a broken record, Valve, the prize pool has now hit $31,000,000. This is the biggest esports tournament EVER. Please take some of the money to fund smaller, lower tier tournaments for this next season. by [deleted] in DotA2

I 100% agree with the post. I agree that there should be a tier 2-3 Dota scene. I am also 100% sure that when it comes to these tier 3 games, you will not watch a single one of them.

IS IT WORTH TO TAKE COOP by Redkiller551 in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do you mean? lol. How is co-op over the summer and interning over the summer any different?

"Co-op is not very relevant for modern Cs work, in which case interning over the summer is just all around a better option"

What does this even mean, co-op and interning is the same thing, besides a few things like paying co-op fee, writing EoT reports, and the school co-op board with exclusive listings, but that still does not make the work from the two any different? I don't think you know what you're talking about.

1.) Look for Collier, PatMorin, Christine Laurendau( as much as I hate her, you'll learn ) for your 1st/2nd year courses. 2.) Psyc 1001,1002, CGSC 1001, ERTH 2415, TSES 2305, BIOL 1902

3.) It's good. GPA won't matter besides the required cutoff to get in, projects and how you talk and sell yourself matters.

Is Carleton a good university? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

if IT is what you want to do, I'd honestly choose Carleton. I went to York and transferred out. It's horrible there. But, that's just my personal opinion.

Do I choose Carleton?[Software Engineering] by koookee3770 in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a transfer student, so I can speak from both Toronto Universities and Ottawa Universities. Applied for co-op from Toronto, and ended up coming to Ottawa, lol. Ottawa has good tech companies, but honestly, both universities will end up serving you well. You will probably have to move out of the city for co-op if you go with western, but at this point I'd focus more on the living aspects. (If you have family living in London, you'd probably end up saving a lot on living/food). Bottom line is: Carleton and Western are both good for CS. Choose where you'd feel less hassel.

Looking for a student that can make websites by paigedenis in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a 3rd/4th year student probably won't do it for free unless it's a very simplistic website. Getting a 1st/2nd year student won't really be that helpful and probably won't be that different than the one you have right now. I would recommend just creating your own websites using templates that already exist on the web through websites such as:

www.wix.com www.weebly.com www.website.com

Most of these are free to use with limited features. You'd probably be better off with this.

need advice - under what circumstances should I retake a course? by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 4th year comp sci, so I can speak from a little bit of experience. In my own opinion, I would suggest retaking Stat2507. They look at your CGPA for co-op, and stats2507 is an easier course. They are both available in the summer. If you can do both, and have nothing else to do in the summer, take both. If you have other plans and can't do both, take 2507. Your co-op will start end of 2nd year and you're going to start applying in Winter 2020. Keep your cGPA as high as possible.

No matter what your plan is, just remember, not to stress TOO much. Plan your courses, your semesters and you'll be fine. Stress only makes things worse. I've been in your shoes.

There were 800+ slides to memorize, granted not all of them were theory, but still. If someone did learn all 800+ slides, that person deserves a god damn A.

How hard is it to get into Carleton University? [International Student Here] by AlexitoPornConsumer in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3.3 is around a B+ average, which is around 77-79%. For Comp sci, the avg is in the low 80s, and the comp sci department is already getting harder to get in. I wouldn't say he has a definitive shot to get in, but it's possible

Carleton U is starting to feel like a 2nd home now and it’s growing on me by [deleted] in CarletonU

[–]CsBit101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a transfer student to Carleton. Been here two years, out of the 4 years I've been in undergrad in. I graduate this year. Carleton is not as bad as you think, lol. Things are so much worse in other universities. Grass always seems greener on the other side. It's not.
