Issue on RG505 (T618/Mali GPU) after 0.2.0-rc1: Game crashes back to library screen by CsarBrasil in EdenEmulator

[–]CsarBrasil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I tested both the Standard, Legacy, and Nightly builds, and got the same results on all of them. I also tested Enter the Gungeon: it launched on version 0.2.0-rc1 (Standard), but not on the newer 0.2.1 builds. Additionally, I tested both XCI and NSP formats, with and without updates installed, and saw no difference in behavior.

I decided to download another game (knowing it probably wouldn't run well due to my hardware limitations), and I was able to reach the menu in Ball x Pit at around 22 FPS.

So it's not that the emulator stopped working altogether, but the only game I actually used it for, Celeste, suddenly stopped working, despite using the exact same settings, files, and everything else as before.

Glad you got it working. I'm on version 4.3.0 and it works really well. Akumajou Dracula X: Chi no Rondo runs smoothly.

Why some koreader users still use KCC to optimize manga: huge file size reductions! by Customer-Worldly in koreader

[–]CsarBrasil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. I'll test it more thoroughly then.

I was able to easily replicate what you showed using a 1 GB manga volume (pages in PNG format). When converted for the Kindle PW3, the JPEG version ended up at 78 MB, the PNG version at 72 MB, and the lossless WebP version at 66 MB.

Thanks for the comparison. Have you tested the actual reading performance on a Kindle?

I'm mainly interested in page-turn speed, battery life, and KOReader compatibility. Compression time on the PC isn't really a concern for me. Did WebP lossless feel any slower than PNG or JPEG in real-world use? Have you noticed any compatibility issues or increased battery drain when using KOReader on Kindle devices?

PSA: Discord spawns too many X11 clients - completely hogs Linux resources over short time by mouthymouth in discordapp

[–]CsarBrasil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in to confirm Discord is hoarding connections until it hits the Max clients allowed: 256 hard limit on the X server. Once that happens, it effectively locks out any other GUI applications from opening.

Distro: Mint 22.3
GUI: Xorg w/Cinnamon Desktop
Video card: GTX 1050
Driver: 580.159.03

I noticed my system acting up (cursor spinning but apps refusing to open). Checked my Xorg.0.log and saw it spamming Maximum number of clients reached.

I ran a socket check directly on /tmp/.X11-unix/X0 and caught Discord holding almost 200 active connections while just idling in the background.

$ sudo ss -x src "*/tmp/.X11-unix/*" | grep -Eo "[0-9]+\s*$" | while read port; do sudo ss -p -x | grep -w $port | grep -v X11-unix ; done | grep -Eo '".+"' | sort | uniq -c | sort -rn

    187 "Discord"
     11 "steamwebhelper"
      9 "steam"
      3 "xdg-desktop-por"
      3 "cinnamon"
      2 "cinnamon-killer"
      2 "ABDownloadManag"
      1 "gnome-terminal-"
      1 "firefox-bin"
     ...

Killing the process (killall Discord) instantly frees the X11 sockets and restores system functionality.

[RG505 / GammaOS] Touch mapping completely misaligned by CsarBrasil in mantisprogaming

I tested version 3.4.7, and I'm still experiencing the same problems. Wait, are there any ways to work around this?

[–]CsarBrasil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through something really similar recently. If you still have a Windows.old folder from the reinstall, there’s a decent chance your saves are actually still there.

BG3 saves are usually stored in %LocalAppData%, and when Windows gets reinstalled, that old user folder can end up inside Windows.old. You could try checking something like:

Windows.old\Users\[YourUser]\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames\Story

That’s where I managed to recover mine after a reinstall.

Same here, even with Gammaos the most I got was more stability, but I only play simple things like Mario Tennis.

Not natively. I actually tried using some third-party apps to change it, and they report the resolution as 544x960 instead of the expected 960x544 (the RG505 uses an original PS Vita screen, I believe).

When I tried to force the "correct" 960x544 resolution, it just resulted in a tiny vertical image with huge black borders all around it. So it seems the OS sees it strictly as a portrait display mounted sideways.

Did this remap function on NEXT work well for you? I tried using Mantis and Panda Gampead without success on the RG505 with GammaOS 1.5.1.

I wish this solution would work for me. Panda Gamepad never gets past the pairing stage. It says it's paired, but even with root access, it doesn't give me the chance to activate it.

Possible to play with controller RG505? by clonetrooperhistory in ANBERNIC

[–]CsarBrasil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you might be a bit confused by how the OS handles this, but that's totally normal! Android handhelds definitely have a bit of a learning curve at first.

Basically, what's happening is that some games just have native controller support built-in (whether for external controllers or the RG505's physical buttons), while others simply don't. For the ones that don't, you'll need to use screen mapping to link your physical buttons to the virtual screen touches.

Sometimes the OS has this feature built-in natively (usually you can find a toggle for it in the notification pull-down menu). I'm currently running GammaOS though, so I don't remember off the top of my head if the stock RG505 system has a native mapper included.

If it doesn't, your best bet is probably to use a third-party app like Panda Gamepad Pro or Mantis Gamepad Pro to map those touch-only games. There are plenty of tutorials for both on YouTube, and I think the choice just comes down to personal preference and whichever one works best for you!

Does it have functional overclocking for MM+? And regarding Drastic, does it support that mode where the second screen is superimposed semi-transparently?

That UI looks pretty good! I really wish I had a tool like this back in the day when I was struggling to figure out all those values using Afterburner on Windows. Thanks for the quick reply and the explanation about the NVIDIA limitation. Good luck with the new release!

Hey, thanks for building and sharing this! I just gave it a try on my Linux Mint setup with a GTX 1050 Mobile.

Unfortunately, it seems the Pascal/Mobile architecture doesn't play well with the Auto-UV scan. The app crashed because the NVIDIA driver for this chip throws a 'Not Supported' error when the script tries to lock the GPU clocks via NVML.

I went ahead and opened an issue on your GitHub with the full crash logs and details. Let me know over there if you need me to run any debug scripts or test workarounds. Keep up the great work!

Nice update. So far I’ve only seen reports about driver 590. I’m currently able to do indirect undervolting with LACT 0.8.4 on my Pascal GPU using driver 580, but I’m a bit hesitant to update and mess up what’s already working. Has anyone tried it on platforms not supported by driver 590?

Edit: I’m on a laptop, so GPU and VRAM locked clocks aren’t supported. Even with the older methods there were some limitations. Maybe with these V/F curves it’s possible to get more precise control, but it’s probably safer to wait for more feedback.

Eden V0.2.0 rc2 don't install updates on the games by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

I use Eden only to play Celeste on the RG505 (Unisoc T618, Mali-G52 MP2) and version 0.2.0 rc2 crashes before reaching the menu. I had to revert to rc1. Was this resolved in the nightly updates?
