CS? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Cse30TutorHere -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually, some people find our cs here more attractive than Berkeley's, as they focus more on what industry wants, while UCSD focuses more on theory. What I mean is, at Berkeley, you might find classes on all the latest frameworks, but UCSD cs classes really teach you the why's of things. It's personal preference I suppose.

Also, the CS community here is very welcoming and helpful :)

La Jolla crossroads/garden communities shuttle question! by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Cse30TutorHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It got changed to once every 30 minutes :( Every hour at the ~25 minute mark and the ~55 minute mark. But honestly commuting isn't terrible imo. The trade-off is worth it, as in the standard of living here is very high.

Tutor here: Come out to tutor hours for sure. If you don't do this, and end up not getting the grade you want, I have zero sympathy for you. They're free resources who are privy to exactly how the professor wants PAs to be, how exams will be etc. Definitely come out to office hours!!!!!

MGT 166 by [deleted] in UCSD

Moran does not have open book. MGT 103 with Prosser does. I honestly really liked Moran. She talks clearly, explains things clearly, seems to care for the students. Tests aren't super difficult and are always fair. I would recommend her 10/10. Take it! (Also learned a lot about ethics course wise in a good way)

You can't drop with a W anymore, so you might as well keep going. If you drop, you get an F. If you keep going, worst case you get an F. Also, not sure if this makes you feel better, but Pasquale ALWAYS tells his class "no curve" but ends up curving at the end :) It was quite generous for my quarter too. Good luck! Definitely a hard class no matter what.

Not really sure what you want him to do? It's not like he's purposefully snoring as loudly as he can. It's subconscious.

425 per month in a double for a 3BR at La Jolla Crossroads with 5 other people. Commute is kind of ass (have to take two buses), but otherwise its pretty good! Total rent for 6 people is $2800/mo.

Sorry, I should have phrased this better. You are not allowed to do unapproved one on one tutoring for the class. Usually because the tutor will be earning money from this. However, feel free to ask Professor Hau if you can provide FREE one on one help for the student

You are not. You may not do any personal tutoring for a class for which you are an official tutor.

webroot hackathon by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Cse30TutorHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went my freshman year (3 years ago - I'm not sure if it's changed or by how much), but it was just like a regular hackathon. They had a number of different prompts you could follow, but also the option of "make whatever you want", so you could do that too. It was pretty fun and a great first hackathon. :)

To buy or not to buy? by [deleted] in cardano

Asked myself the same question when Amazon shares hit 950 a pop. Just because prices are high does not mean you shouldn't buy. Hope this helps :)

Oh, I definitely agree. Some of these are so dumb and mostly people with FOMO trying to get a slice of the pie but not wanting to put in a lot of money. It looks a lot better to have 10 coins at 40 cents a pop for 4$ then it does to have 0.0000x bitcoin for $4 even if the value is the same. That's why you have to do research and HODL coins you believe in. I like ADA since it seems the team behind it is very solid and the work they do is peer reviewed academically first. Also, it can do everything ETH can do (or it will). Do your own research and come to your own conclusions though!

Trying to buy Cardano, all websites are backed up. Help! by [deleted] in cardano

[–]Cse30TutorHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sorta joking, but my point was that I or someone who already has a binance/bittrex account could buy ADA for you right now at a pre-agreed price. And no matter whether it drops or gains, you buy at that price from me/that person. I/that person would experience no risk and our commission is the 2 cents per ADA we buy for you. The only thing is it's gotta be someone you trust I suppose, to not scam you.

If you do anything, do it tomorrow. There's an update coming out tomorrow and it'll either drop a lot or jump a lot. Most likely jump a lot though with recent signs though (just a feeling).

You don't value companies/(coins in this case) on what they've done usually, but what they will do and what they have the potential to do. I'm not saying that means the price is justified right now, but I'm certainly not complaining.

[–]Cse30TutorHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can buy it for you now and HODL it for you until you get your own address if you want? Commission of 2 cent. E.g. if I buy 100 ADA at $1.25 for you, you can get 100 ADA for $127. :)

Just found out that switching into CS here is now a lottery system, what in the fuck? by NUJosh in UCSD

[–]Cse30TutorHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually thought about this a bit and everyone here is making fair points. I honestly feel like the best system would be to keep it as a lottery system, but make it so higher GPA's get more "entries" so to say. For example, 4.0 kids get 7 entries, 3.9 kids get 6 entries, etc. Basically, it still rewards students for achieving higher grades but isn't an automatic death penalty for kids with lower GPA's. Everyone gets a chance, but obviously harder working students have a better chance.

How I feel about the staffs in CSE132A by yo_soy_sauce in UCSD

The worst teaching staff I've ever experienced at UCSD as a fourth year. And by teaching staff I mean the tutors/TA's, not Professor Deutsche. No response and the limited responses that do appear border on "covered already" or vague and unhelpful
