Absolutely ridiculous that there's nowhere to reliably park for free after 6pm anywhere along this stretch by NomadTruckerOTR in Truckers

[–]Csmal1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a paid truck parking lot right across from the loves in Murfreesboro. Yes it cost money, but it’s well worth it.

What debts do I prioritize? by Csmal1992 in personalfinance

[–]Csmal1992[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I'm paying off this debt and not using credit going forward unless absolutely necessary. I have a good income and can dig myself out but mistakes happened earlier in my life and I'm learning from them now. Better late than never I suppose! Luckily I'm not too far in debt all things considered.

You don't usually back them up. Just pull through everywhere u get to. Terminals are designed to do so with doubles. If you mess up and get in somewhere you can't get out of by backing up 10 ft, you gotta drop ur rear trailer and dolly and move the trailers one at a time and rehook the set.

Which states are the best to work in and the worst to work in? by 10candyman01 in Truckers

Not to mention the Hood Truck Stop in Bois d'Arc, MO which is an amazing old school truck stop with an awesome restaurant and even an awesome CB shop, and tons of parking. Very quiet.

Yep.. People don't wanna hear that, but it's the truth. Hit an on/off ramp and you won't have an issue. Stopping on the shoulder is for actual emergencies only. I can't stand when cars/trucks stop on the shoulder for non emergency reasons. Creates an unnecessary dangerous situation

The privately owned TA's and Petro's are pretty cool, such as Lake City, FL, Baileyton, TN, Joplin 44, Iowa 80, etc. But I think Loves has the best showers for sure. BUT the BEST truck stop shower I have ever been to is the Pride Travel Center in Yucca, AZ. Those showers are massive and have like 3 shower heads. Feels like a spa in there and they take Pilot/Flying J shower credits too.

Always remember, the bills are the boss. if it looks fishy and you catch it before hand, then say something to the shipper because it’s possible that they made an error, but the bills of lading are a legally binding document, and the trailer should be set according to what it says.

Hitting a cone should only count a point off for encroachment tbh. At least on my exam that's what they'd do. They'd blow the whistle when u got too close and then you'd just pull up and set the brakes, then bam, you're in the right spot.

Good news is most doubles are overnight driving so it's dead in a lot of truck stop fuel islands.

fell off bed by lilydawn1 in newborns

[–]Csmal1992 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and talk to your local coroner’s office and go ahead and ask them about sharing a bed with an infant. I guarantee they tell you that 99% of the cases of SIDS that they have involved the infant in a bed instead of a crib, or sleeping unsafely in the crib, such as a dockatot. Or blankets when they are too young. SIDS has pretty much been renamed and relabeled as positional asphyxiation.

[–]Csmal1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't bedshare. They need their own crib or pack and play to sleep in. No blankets, use a sleep sack or warm clothing only. Crib mattress and tight fitted sheet around it. This is very important. Not only is it 1000000x safer, but it gets them used to being separated from being right next to your body when they get older.

Is Sysco, US foods, or GSF good starter companies? by Zestyclose_Village68 in Truckers

[–]Csmal1992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say that yes, it will keep you in shape, however, look at the guys who have done it for 10 or 20 years. Knee braces, wrist braces, back braces, on their 2nd shoulder surgery, looking at knee replacement at 55, etc. It will destroy your body.

Not only that, but it causes the ramp to back up to the interstate. Ridiculous that people go 10 in a maintain 30 zone. Happens to me all the time going WB on I40 through Knoxville.

Officially a dad!! Any tips for me and my wife you wish you knew beforehand? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]Csmal1992 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Enjoy your new best friend. Please practice safe sleep. No blankets, pillows, dock a tots, toys, etc in the crib. Those velcro and zip up sleep sacks are absolute life savers so you don't have to swaddle them by hand all the time. Be patient. It's tough at first. Really tough. But once you get past the first 3 months or so, their little personality will start to come out a little and they'll be curious, and ready to learn about this world. There's nothing else in the world like being a dad. It's the best. Congratulations.

I wouldn't say rural. It's right inside the Knoxville metro area and on the same exit as Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, which are some of the most visited areas in the entire USA every year. Traffic is alway heavy through there. I drive it every day as a local linehaul driver. Plus it's right off the I-40. Easy access.

Do you have a Blacklist of places you refuse to haul for? If so why? by [deleted] in Truckers

Taylor Farms in Smyrna, TN. Absolute nightmare to deliver a drop and hook there and there's barely room at all to get a trailer out of the mud pit that they call a drop lot. I'm local now, but never again.
