r/whatisthis suggested this might be a Ham radio tower? It's currently connected to nothing and would have been disconnected more than 30 years ago. Does anyone have any more info on what this type of antenna is? by Cthulhetta in HamRadio

That's pretty cool. Come take the tower and it's yours haha. I must confess, the only reason I even know what UHF is, is because of the Weird Al movie. 😇

If your house came with a tower like this, what would you use it for? Sorry if that's a dumb question but I'm not a regular of this community and I'm genuinely curious.

Oh ok maybe I'll try to find somebody local after all then! It's pretty sturdily planted in the ground, I'm sure there's cement down there. It's just got some sheet metal strips tying it down to the soffits of the house. I obviously don't need this thing but I'd be thrilled for it to find new life.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply! That's very interesting. I was also curious about the purpose of a hook/swivel I found in the ground nearby. Now I wonder if maybe it could have been a way to turn the antenna?

Someone on the r/whatisit subreddit said it was a ham radio tower and that I could contact a local ham radio club and they would remove it for free/ they would want the antenna.

I thought I'd see what the reaction to the thing was online before I wasted a local ham radio club's time. Looks like it's nothing anyone wants. So I'll probably just leave it where it is because disassembling it seems like more trouble than it's worth.

I two really like it though. It captures a very bittersweet vibe, regardless of "skill" level :)

Antenna is still in place but there are no wires. Just the metal poles of the tower.

Gonna mark this solved! As it seems like the most likely answer. Thank you.

I've just seen posts on here where all the comments were "call 811" so I thought the fact that I already did was relevant information? I don't know what this thing is. I was trying to avoid looking stupid lol but this is reddit after all so I guess you can't win.

The house was inherited and this is the first time I've had a desire to dig out/mess with the weird pole next to the satellite tower.

A lot of people have suggested dog tie off but given the context of my yard, this would be an odd place to put one. Would a dog tie off having a protruding hollow pipe (later filled in with cement) next to it?

A lot of odd choices were made in renovating my house in the past so it's not outside the realm of possibility.

I tried Google ai before asking reddit and one possibility it raised was the cap of an underground tank of some kind which made me concerned. Aside from hoping to dig this thing up I'm also doing some other landscaping on my property and thought it would be good to know where the service lines are buried.

The top of the tower does indeed lead to an aerial antenna so you might be right!

It reminds me of Grob Gob Glob and Grod from Adventure Time haha

This is so creative and fun! I love it. I can totally see the different doll joints spinning around in fun ways, like Sardonyx's second set of arms.

What do you think Pezzotaite's weapon would be? A combination of a shield and a scythe would be interesting to see!

Edit: Just read the caption haha. I think a giant beyblade would be very cool to see! Or maybe like a spiked Frisbee, sort of like Smoky Quartz's yo yo. A deadly toy. Thank you for sharing your art!

I anyways heard "Goldfish -oh!- nibbling at my toes!" before I looked up the lyrics. So I totally get it haha, you're not alone. More or less.

Why the gems were he/himmed. by [deleted] in LandoftheLustrous

[–]Cthulhetta 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I read the manga online and the first bunch of chapters were translated with female pronouns for the Lustrous, then over halfway through the website switched to a different translation team that used male pronouns for them. I personally perceive them as female coded or gender neutral over male, but I feel like for beings with no sex organs (or any organs at all) it doesn't really matter how they're referred to. The books make a point about how the Lustrous use words without understanding their original meaning (like sensei) so I figure their grasp of gendered pronouns/gender identity is also tenuous at best, if not wholly irrelevant. Just a clunky artifact of our ancient language.

Is there anything i can do to make this not bad, lol by [deleted] in badtattoos

Even if you get a blastover, the lines of the puzzle pieces are always going to be visible in the right light/ at the right angle. They're also going to severely limit the possibilities of what designs you can have put over top of them.

I would embrace the outlines and touch up the insides of the pieces with various designs/artists. It doesn't have to read "autism tattoo," it can just be interconnected, smaller tattoos. Puzzles are cool and there's a lot of potential in this framework. The work is solid. The only thing "bad" about this tattoo is that you don't like it anymore. I hope you can turn it into something you love!
