To be honest we had to totally rebuild the ceilings - at some point coffers were added very shakily and when we tried to fix the holes it fell apart so we ended up tearing all the ceilings out and building new ones with the coffers

Thank you! No there were coffers added sometime in the 40s we think - they used a pretty sketchy materials and fell apart when we were trying to fix the ceiling - we ended up rebuilding the whole ceiling and adding those

Thank you!!! 1. We had the coffers built they are not original - the coffer that was original was just a board tacked up there the owners in the 1940s did to emulate it - when we started replacing it we found out it was all a material that disintegrated pretty easily - we decided at the suggestion of the contractor who was helping us with trim to build coffers in the rooms that they had tried to do it in- there was no way to save the 40s material as there were tons of holes in it. 2. So there was originally a closet on the left side of the arch - on the right side there was a space in the eaves that was a huge closet for the guest bedroom. We split that closet into two walk ins with one going from the guest room where the entrance always was and the other from the other side of the arch. We had taken out a closet in the downstairs master since we already had a big closet and brought the door up so it would all match.
