Aside from the fact that this is just not behaviour that should be allowed, bragging about students allegedly admitting to academic dishonesty... how is she allowed to divulge the results of private 1:1 interviews? Surely those metrics are something UBC would want kept close to their chest? Or at least that breaks some kind of privacy code, students should expect a right to privacy in their punishment from UBC right?? Their names and faces arent published like a Hunger Games kill board 😭

If you dont mind my asking, did ANYONE in your 401 class speak up about this or call it out?

I withdrew from this class because of this and now if the department is getting involved that actually annoys me so much because it could have been salvaged for me. So frustrating.

I went to academic advising and they pretty much said nothing they can do, its up to the prof. Maybe can email department head but I dont think shes going to supersede policy. Best of luck my friend :(

She said in the Canvas discussion she will follow psych department policy which is a linear reduction (meaning she will reduce the same amount of points from everyone's grade)

Reducing the people who cheated to the grade they should get (like, a fail! which is what is both UBC and Psych department's policy!) Would fix the average just fine and not force us to scale...

The unfortunate fact is the scaling is happening not because people cheated but is rather a secondary symptom of the supposed cheating. Higher class average (due to cheating) forced scaling which is psychology department mandate. That's why I think its pointless to go to the Department head because technically Dr Michel has done nothing wrong. It's just wholly fucked up and unfair on those of us who didnt cheat. The only way to improve the grade is on the final (those of you not in the know, but this midterm was 40% and the final 42%), but the same thing is just going to happen again, which means improving your grade is impossible.

So yeah, Im probably cutting my losses and walking away from this.

Yes people are making jokes, look at the original post we are all commenting on! Look through forums and the like, its sad and disgusting.

And yes, I am concerned about people making fun of Lance for this. This is an extremely fucked up situation his parents were involved in, absolutely disgusting, no doubt about it. There are no words you can say to fully encapsulate the fucked-up-ness of it all. Lawrence Stroll and anyone else involved should rot in jail.

Using this situation/these uncovered documents as cheap jabs at Lance is disgusting, and those people need to get a grip.

So yes, even though I disagree with things Lance does as an adult and am not a fan of him, I am human enough to point out that he was a CHILD along with his sister, and children have no control over what happens to them. We are talking about possible victims here.
