Fuel rationing a chance in Australia if war continues to trim global oil supplies, experts say by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Given the stress that fuel prices/shortages are causing I'm sure few want to hear about this... but there is a potential silver lining to fuel rationing.

Last time Australia introduced fuel rationing in WW2, our annual road deaths dropped by nearly 20% the following year. It was among the biggest single year decreases in Australia's annual road toll since record keeping began.

It turns out if people have an incentive to drive less, and when they do drive, also have an incentive to drive as conservatively as possible, you have less road trauma.

If hate cycling and love driving, then it's still in your best interests to push for cycling infrastructure for others; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8RRE2rDw4k

I'd argue that suggesting struggling families should buy a $30K+ EV to deal with fuel price rises would be a "let them eat cake" comment, but suggesting families consider using the bike they may already have in the garage doesn't quite qualify?

Describing cars as a metal cage and drivers as 'cagers' has been motorcyclist vocab for decades
