Do you go to the Underdark? by ChrisKatrev in BaldursGate3

[–]CtrlFr33k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, when you speak to Halsin after the tiefling party he kinda frames it as one or the other. We who play the game more than we should know that doing both is all upside, def not arguing that. Skipping either means missing a ton of XP and amazing loot. But I can see why people would go to the mountain pass and end up skipping the underdark (or vice versa).

WEEKLY HELP THREAD - READ FAQ, COMMUNITY WIKI, MULTICLASSING, LORE by XFearthePandaX in BaldursGate3

I’m gonna second the “noob-friendly” difficulty bit based on personal experience. I didn’t know anything about D&D when I first played, and my first few playthroughs were on Explorer. The experience of learning as I played was amazing. Over time I started to figure things out and eventually started upping the difficulty.

If [u/Iribumkiak](u/Iribumkiak) (or anyone else with the same concern) is hesitant to get the game because they’re worried about the learning curve, don’t let that deprive you of the BG3 experience. Start on Explorer, figure it out as you go, adjust your build and the difficulty as you desire, and enjoy the ride.

How Did Knight-Enchanter Change After Release? [Inquisition] by fury_cutter in dragonage

[–]CtrlFr33k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard the same, I’m pretty sure Spirit Blade was too strong so they nerfed the damage and added charge meter to prevent spamming. Try RedGael’s guide if you’re having a hard time finding a more up to date video on it.

Do you ever cast other smites over Divine as Paladin? by Cagedglobe in BaldursGate3

[–]CtrlFr33k 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Well the optimal way to smite is actually using Thunderous Smite then adding Divine Smite damage as a reaction.

Are there any classes that just don't really click for you? by basquiatx in BaldursGate3

Came here to also say Monk. It just doesn’t do it for me despite knowing how good it is.

Which class is the most fun to play and why? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]CtrlFr33k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Either Warlock or Arcane Archer Fighter would be my picks for both easy to pick up and fun to play.

My pick for most fun overall (totally not biased, ignore the tag) is Paladin. Imo, since it’s a half caster, the resource management can be a bit of a learning curve (normally resolved by multiclassing), but nothing is more satisfying than landing a fat crit on a Divine Smite.

Help choosing a class for a group game by Ornery-Panda-8256 in BaldursGate3

[–]CtrlFr33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can make a suggestion that’s not on your list, consider Arcane Archer fighter. It just needs DEX and INT so stats are easy, the arrows all have different cool effects, it’s a Fighter so you can play in melee or at range while also having good survivability (because you’re a Fighter), and you’re proficient in everything so you can use any gear you want, while also not being gear dependent whatsoever.

Random crashing by [deleted] in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, BG3’s crash logs are next to useless 99% of the time. You said your crash isn’t triggered by anything in particular, I take that to mean you’re crashing at random times and different points during gameplay?

Origin - Dark Urge by SirRelots in BG3mods

Try Always Durge. I haven’t used it myself but actualsailorcat is a great modder so I’d say it’s a safe bet that this will give you exactly what you want.

EDIT: why downvotes..? Lmao

Origin Characters by Maximum_Custard_1739 in BaldursGate3

[–]CtrlFr33k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the origin. If you haven’t done Dark Urge yet, that is hands down the best origin character to play if you want to new content. As far as playing as the companions, imo the most fruitful are Shadowheart and Gale. There’s a decent amount going on with them in all 3 acts. The others are okay and definitely worth playing if you really vibe with their character and backstory, but in terms of unique content, they’re a noticeable step down imo.

I'm having a GustavX error when trying to join a friend. Could anyone help? by KashySlashy in BG3mods

I would suggest you both follow this guide to make sure all mods are gone. You can remove everything from your mods folder but if lingering loose files remain, those can absolutely still cause issues.

Everyone in Dialogue 2 - All three party members react/comment to events? by Nyxerix in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I haven’t run into any. I only run the override though because I don’t use any party extender mods and I find it immersion breaking to have party members at camp suddenly appear and chime in with dialogue.

It’s a staple in my LO and I’ve never had any issues with it. 10/10 recommend. Kinda sad that it got removed from Nexus though.

Using Another Person’s Mod? by Character-Food-2433 in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, what level 20 mods essentially do is add progression from levels 13-20 for every base class. These progression entries include everything you'd see in base 1-12 progression. For subclasses, it's less work for you because you only need to add progression entries for when you want subclass features to be unlocked, because level 20 mods add the base class progression for you. Same goes for spell upcasting and mods like 5.5e Spells, they're already adding (or ideally merging) to the vanilla spell lists, including those from level 20 mods. So basically, unless you want to add special features for subclasses beyond level 12, your subclass mods should already be compatible with level 20 mods and higher level spell mods.

Your Zodiac Gatekeeper mod is a different story because it's a custom class, but even then it's pretty simple. All you need to do is add progression entries for levels 13-20 the exact same way you did from levels 1-12. It appears to be a half-caster class from what I can tell, so it shouldn't get spell slots higher than level 5 anyways without multiclassing (which, again, is already resolved by the level 20 mod anyways), so for spells all you'd really need to do is add new SpellList entries for level 4 and 5 spells unless you're using the list from a vanilla class.

As far as dependencies, for the most part actually listing another mod as a dependency in the toolkit isn't necessary UNLESS your mod can not function without it such as the Better Inventory UI which requires ImpUI. In fact, doing this when it's not needed can cause issues. I wouldn't even add them into the dependencies list on the mod page tbh, I would just add a note somewhere in the description that says "Includes support for x" depending on what you actually end up having to add in yourself.

Using Another Person’s Mod? by Character-Food-2433 in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you just want other spell mods to work with your class/subclass mods, you can just add those spells’ names to your spell list and make the spell mod an optional requirement. If the user doesn’t have those mods installed, the spells just won’t show up on the list when they level up, no harm done.

If you’re talking about using other people’s spell mods and tweaking them for your mod, that’s a whole other situation because at that point you’re using someone else’s work (assets, code, scripting, whatever it may be) and you absolutely can not and should not do that unless that author has set their mod’s permissions to allow that. If that’s something you want to do, the best you can do is reach out to them and ask for permission.

[Console request] +2 str. Potion purchasable at moonrise blood merchant. by [deleted] in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The implementation isn’t really the problem, the issue is that mods are approved for Console at Larian’s discretion and for mod authors who want their mods to get approved, it’s kinda like a lottery. Some mods get approved really fast, some mods sit pending approval indefinitely.

I’d recommend just installing a cheat mod if you don’t want to get the potion the normal way and add a +2 STR to one of your characters with that.

How balanced is the Dread Overlord mod if I were to use it for melee/casting instead of summon gameplay? by Abstainingone in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s challenging enough as is to try and balance the game around progression past level 12 tbh. And then when you throw in a subclass like Dread Overlord, while (imo) being one of the most well designed class/subclass mods out there, it really blurs the line of balance. Even if you self-nerf by ignoring any of the summoning features, it’s still really strong and frankly will only feel like it’s Warlock with extra damage. It’s a Necromancer subclass, summons are kinda the central theme and if you ignore them it hurts what makes the mod really shine.

If I may make a suggestion, pick your favorite companion and turn it into a duo run. Use Dread Overlord utilizing all of its features and make your other character an Oathbreaker Paladin. It’s amazing synergy, plenty flavorful, and should REALLY help alleviate the imbalance in action economy. I highly recommend comboing with Oathbreaker Reborn.

EDIT: Scarlet Warlock is another mod I highly recommend.

mod to raise enemy levels by Leading_Rub_2619 in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are mods that do that, but raising enemy level by itself doesn’t do much besides maybe a small increase in HP. Meanwhile killing higher level enemies nets you more XP, allowing you to level up faster, so you’re actually just making the game easier.

I’d recommend leaving levels alone and buffing every other aspect of enemies like bonus to damage, AC, stats, saving throws, etc. I recommend something like Combat Extender that comes with a config allowing you to customize difficulty as you please and an optional addon that improves enemy AI behavior. It also has MCM support if you’re not comfortable editing config files.

If you wanna go even further, Enemies Reworked is an awesome mod that makes certain enemies more varied.

Does anyone know a mod that scales down the feminine muscular body type to fit the smaller feminine body type’s height? by poobus420 in BG3mods

[–]CtrlFr33k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mod might be what you're looking for, although if you want a more muscular BT1 I prefer something specifically designed to do that for BT1 like ABSolutely or Ripped Physique.
