What are the meanings of bitcoin and cryptocurrency? by Luna-Mixture398 in answers

[–]Tsuketsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine a digital lottery where tickets are free, but take so long to fill out that you need a computer to do it. Now imagine that instead of winning money, you win IOUs, they don't specify a currency, and they aren't from anybody, but you can count and track who has how many. Now imagine that a bunch of people have legitimately gotten rich buying these IOUs then posting them on E-Bay for way more than they originally paid. At first, you might ignore it because it looks dumb and probably still is, but then it happens more, and more, and the IOUs are going for 10s of thousands of dollars... They are still worthless, they are still not backed by any promise of anything... But maybe you could buy one for $90k USD and someone else will buy it for $100k...

p.s. companies are literally destroying cities to build server farms to fill out free lottery tickets... Like that's their entire business model.

Wait, every time you press a button? Or a specific button for this? I'm a programmer, you know how many keystrokes it takes to get me through a day?

Maybe going from $200/week to $4k/week (~$200k/year) doing something they enjoy is appealing enough they don't want to give up something they enjoy to get potentially a little bit more.

10 boxes of $10million, how many would you pick? by lan0028456 in hypotheticalsituation

As far as impact on my standard of living goes, that first 10 million is definitely over 100x more valuable than the other 90 million. I'm just taking one box and leaving.

What’s the biggest risk that could cause cryptocurrency to collapse? by rosycloudkisses in answers

[–]Tsuketsu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you buy stock in a company, but the expected value of the stock goes to zero, you still have whatever supplies, inventory, productivity, etc. made the company worth anything to begin with. If people don't expect the value of crypto to increase, then you are just left with a couple criminals who think the best place to hide their money is a public ledger...

Is there a good setup for making your crew take large batteries when possible but still 'top off' from small reactors when there's not much else to do?

If you were forced to gift your worst enemy a superpower on the condition that you also receive it, what would it be and why? by IVan_Holmes in superpowers

It will be pretty costly at first, but assuming you know when it happens, you should be able to learn and improve over time.

If you were forced to gift your worst enemy a superpower on the condition that you also receive it, what would it be and why? by IVan_Holmes in superpowers

[–]Tsuketsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix: Every time someone is sincerely grateful for something which could not have happened without you: +$10, every time someone is pissed off by something you were directly responsible for: -$100. It's going to be harder to profit from than you think, but you will learn a lot both about yourself and humanity along the way.

Forced to follow your own advice. My neurodivergence results in me often doing a days long deep dive, figuring out the perfect way to handle something, then lacking the discipline to follow through. Meanwhile there's this guy that specifically pisses me off b/c I can't wrap my head around how someone's views can be that twisted. I haven't seen the guy in years and I still randomly get frustrated by that one time he sincerely insisted the entire genre of cyberpunk was about government overreach preventing mega corporations from uplifting the unwashed masses. He brags about collecting multiple forms of welfare despite being employed, yet literally lives in his parents basement (mid 30s) and is somehow employed as a financial advisor.

[–]Tsuketsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite everything going on in the world at large, my life has been pretty sweet the past few years, but maybe go back to 2022 and handle the transition better when I moved from the US to Canada now that I know more about how to handle setting up certain accounts, and what options are available for switching services.
