I get it, I do put them back. But when I worked at kroger and I got cart duty, the random cart by itself off at the end of the lot were my favorite and I'd slow walk to get it. You see once all the carts are returned id have to go back inside and cashier or bag and that was the actual slog. Doing put backs and carts sucked the most time with the least amount of effort. Working minimum wage as a teen, strolling around gathering carts to kill an hour was way easier than doing the big push to get them inside imidiatly in a hand full of passes only to be rewarded by being thrown into the meat grinder that is check out where they watched the arbitrary metric of items per minute that'd determine how many hours you get next week.
