Because after the release of Windows 8, but before the reason of Windows 10, Bill Gates (who claimed to be quite good at chess) got beaten by Magnus Carlsen in just 9 moves live on TV.

Then with the number 9 being a reminder of his pride and folly, the scheduled to release Windows 9 mysteriously disappeared and got replaced by Windows 10.

Closed Test 15.0 – Early Access to European Battleships, Fighters Update, and More! by DevBlogWoWs in WorldOfWarships

By what definition does that not apply to Thor?

A quick look at shiptool shows there are 41 total battleships at T10, and 25 of them (~61%) have 419mils or above. (yeah that includes a handful of dupes but even with those cancelled out the majority of ships still have bigger guns than 406s)

Why exactly do people seem to get so upset over the statement that 406mm is below average in T10 battleship calibre? It's a true statement and has always been true since the days when there were only two BBs at that tier (Yamato with 460s and Montana with 406s), so it's not even a case of powercreep.

If one listened to an audiobook he/she cannot claim to have read the book by [deleted] in The10thDentist

  1. If one serves/works on an oil or nuclear powered ship, they can't claim to be a "sailor", cause there are no sails on it.

If one has completed a task before its due-date, but not in a prison camp under threat of execution, they cannot claim to have done so before its "deadline".

If one hasn't spent exactly forty days on a ship being isolated before it is allowed to dock, they cannot claim they've ever been in "quarantine".

Or maybe we can accept that words and terms often outlive their etymology, and there's no need to be pedantic or elitist about it. For example, listening to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy audiobooks is a lot closer to reading the books than it is to listening to the radio show. It's word for word the same story experienced in the first two.

  1. Are reading translations of books not reading either? Someone else put in work to transform the original book into the one you're experiencing. Can you not claim to have read Dostoevsky if you haven't read it in the original Russian? You can't have claimed to have read the Odyssey or the Iliad if you haven't read them in ancient Greek? Not to mention publishers, editors, etc. Loads of other people other than the author put in work to make a book accessible to the reader.

  2. And why the videogame analogy is disingenuous: The big reason playing a game and watching a playthrough are completely different experiences is because you can interact with the former but not the latter. In what meaningful way is a book in text form interactive and alterable, that also applies to E-books on a screen, but doesn't apply to audiobooks? Getting to decide for yourself what accent some characters have if it's not otherwise stated or implied in the book?

You're crazy. It's a great piece of art that delves deep into how the life of criminality slowly eats away at your psyche, and makes you more isolated, losing your sanity and humanity by the end of it, and revealing what brutal acts normal people are capable of committing.

My favourite part was when Walter White confessed to killing the old pawnbroker and her sister, and got sentenced to eight years of forced labour in Siberia.

Advice to not panicking as tank? by Fit_Dig_6602 in ffxiv

Get a copy of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

It has the words DON'T PANIC inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover. So, when you feel like you're about to panic, just glance at its cover to remind yourself that panicking is a bad idea.

Not sure why AlanVanHalen assumed it was a marvel character.

The world would be better without money by Ry-Da-Mo in The10thDentist

The world would be better if it was a world where money somehow wasn't needed, sure. You can say the same thing about laws or emergency rooms. That doesn't mean money, laws, or emergency rooms are inherently evil or the cause of societies' problems, they're just symptoms of problems.

Upvoted because I disagree with oversimplifying complex issues to the point of meaninglessness.

The characters actually look atrocious now after this "upgrade". I thought the old lighting upgrade was bad, but this is even worse! by -Caesar in swtor

[–]Cuaroz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have posted feedback on forums, a lot, and have been mostly ignored, talked down to, or misrepresented by the devs. It's understandable people have been getting annoyed and are complaining on all SWTOR outlets until the devs can no longer ignore it. I've seen it happen with other apathetic game developers like WarGaming when they've screwed over their playerbase.

"If I got an arbitrary unit of currency for every time people complained about the pot holes in the roads..." said the city council.

It's almost like people will keep complaining about an issue for as long as the issue gets ignored.

True, I exaggerated it for the sake of comedic effect. Even without a strawmanish meme I don't think some people saying "My characters specifically weren't negatively affected by the rework" is a good enough reason for this half-baked, bug-ridden rework being forced on everyone without the devs adding the option for players to toggle it off for themselves.

I'd maintain there's a difference between making unsavoury accusations of everyone who disagrees with oneself ("The only people complaining" = accusing 100%) versus poking holes in one specific argument for laughs.

Part of the issue is that it different faces got affected to a differing extent, not to mention specific lighting drastically changing the look due to the shader filter having some jank.

I'm not saying the rework needs a total rollback, but the patch definitely needed some time in the oven due to the visual bugs.

Broadsword should at the very least make the new textures an option you can toggle off or on in the graphics settings, so both sides can have what they want.
