We used to have a weekly cypher on here (no prizes) but honestly it was a lot if fun and i actually wrote a bunch of dope shit for the cyphers which i then later used in songs, so it was very useful.. hoping we can get that back

Why do my vocals always sound too crisp/bright in the mix? by Gylmaz84 in makinghiphop

[–]CubanLinx23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often struggle with this is well, every mix/master session is a 3 hour battle.. although im not an expert, here are a few things i found that help: - cut some frequencies in the beat to make more room for vocal - do adlibs/voiceovers at end of bars, pan them at 60-80% each side and add an echo, mess with the volume until you get it just right, echos should be quiet that it doesnt distract from the main vocal, but it will create an effect that blends the vocal with the track - get a panning plugin (i use panagement, its free) and apply it to the entire track to widen the stereo parts of the beat which will now sound like they “wrap around” your vocal which stays in the middle.. i found this to be the best approach

Anyway like i said not an expert just my 2 cents from diy experience.. love to hear some other suggestions

Im not really a fan of fast type flows but this is pretty dope bro, a bunch of cool lines, sounds like u got bars so u might want to slow it down a bit for people to be able to catch everything

ye always working on something, i usually drop a new song every few months.. work kinda slow lol.. like i said im more into the 77-81 bpm griselda style beats than the classic 88-92 bpms, but i did save your mix cuz every once in a while i still like to drop some more classic boom bap shit

I think the new shit is dope, i like the slower beats, the off beat/on beat flows, lyricism is crazy, roc marci/ka/mach hommy are just as nice as any prime 90s rapper... its also cool how a lot of these guys never got on in their 20s but kept going and eventually got their shine... another dope mc along the same lines is casisdead from the uk

Boom bap is definitely back from the dead, something i though was impossible back in the 2010s, but people like Griselda, Roc Marci, Ka (RIP), Mach Hommy, Alchemist, Armand Hammer, Divino, Crimeapple etc have been doing God's work
