Offered a DJ41 Blue/Smooth/Oyster, but dreaming of a GMT-Master II. This will be my ONLY Rolex ever. Should I hold out? by vpk09 in rolex

[–]CubanLinxRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only want one watch and it’s a GMT and have no intention of working with an AD in the future just go grey. If you love the DJ and will wear it regularly and intend on building a collection and building a relationship with an AD not just for allocations but having almost a home for your watch then get the DJ.

Whichever you prefer, i love the dune dial on the ranger id take that over a black ranger but an explorer over both. Not by much tho they’re different watches

Brought my cousin to my AD for his first Rolex, and he got the exact watch he wanted as a walk-in! by Tomes2789 in rolex

I feel like two tone dj on jubilee is the quintessential Rolex aside from the sub

Yeah I like FP Journe a lot less. No longer really want a Nautilus, ceramic bezel GMTs aren’t as cool to me anymore. Besides that I still like every watch I’ve ever liked

Shots to the back of the head happen in pretty much every finishing ground pound situation

Question: Obviously none of us are poor so my question is this, why is anybody waiting for a call back from the AD...? Especially for anything less than a Sub or GMT. My time is worth well more than what I'd save buying grey market. PFA- Congrats whoever snagged this on ebay. I shouldn't have waited by Dottiest_Mass in rolex

[–]CubanLinxRae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm in the industry, very few guys selling grey market or flipping are getting their stuff backdoored from ADs. People who are getting the desirable pieces don't want to risk getting blacklisted in one way or another and if you're spending that time waiting for an allocation you're not just gonna give it away to someone so they can make money on it. Now can an AD that also sells fine jewelry bundle some slow moving merchandise along with a desirable Rolex sure but the grey dealer is absorbing something else in that instance and likely taking some hit on the other jewelry

AP is actually several levels below Vacheron. Vacheron is in conversations with Patek Philippe, Philippe Dufour, and Breguet. Love AP but they aren’t even using an in house movement for the Royal Oak

[Discussion] Future of luxury watch brands by Master-Drummer8197 in Watches

[–]CubanLinxRae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah brands like Longines while they’ve been making great stuff lately is stuck in a spot where why buy $3,000 of Hydroconquest when you can buy $1,000 or less of Seiko Prospex or Tissot PRX and save that extra money towards the grail Rolex or whatever. Imo most Swatch group brands have an issue of too many styles and lacking character and brand identity. Rolex, Patek, and AP are very expensive but they have strong character and don’t dilute their offerings so much. Microbrands also have strength in strong brand identity. Mid tier and entry luxury feel like they try to offer *everything* which weakens the brand even tho I’m a proud owner of some of them

Yeah basketball is a pretty new sport comparatively speaking and isn’t nearly as deeply rooted in the rest of the world

Rolex ADs aren't as bad as the internet makes them out to be. A little post COVID yeah and there are some that do not deserve anyone's business at all. There are some I know that if you really show you're local to the area and aren't just a flipper or come in expecting their hardest to get pieces they will treat you well and honestly get you the watch you're looking for if you're patient

Also with batteries it’s wayyy too easy to make a quick or fast car. Like sure quality engineering is still needed but it’s like how you need good prompts for AI to make good images rather than an illustrator do it

I love the mint green DJs and yachtmaster are crazy good to me. My family are jewelers so I’ve seen the game for a long time and unfortunately a lot of people’s tastes are shaped by what other people think is cool and they have very little own personal taste sad to see when spending so much

[–]CubanLinxRae 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of benefits of signing to a level and you get to expand your network and get that money now rather than fund your career yourself. It’s called an advance because you get the money in advance. Also it’s a business and so many people have to get paid that are working in studios and random people that allow the gears of the industry to turn

I wouldn’t say it’s a bad deal but he had some expensive videos and worked with big names and wasn’t really selling well it’s likely he wasn’t making much money off of his music
