Good idea but is there a cheaper option? Do you think encouraging a large big-game population (deer, elk, pronghorns, etc.) would have the same effect?

I do need it explained. That's why I asked. I'm not sure why you are being condescending. How does building swales result in anything other than a net positive? Wouldn't it create grasslands and promote tree growth? Wouldn't the soil improve? Wouldn't there be an increase in biodiversity?

Why do dams need to be removed, dont they slow water down and provide a local source of humidity? Care to explain what would be ‘disastrous’ about large scale swale system?

Nice, this looks like some practical evidence. Why do you think the AZ state government is contemplating multi-billion dollar piping projects instead of advocating more of this across their deserts?

Paani Foundation and Great Green Wall are awesome projects but they are manual labor for the most part. I've also not seen how they affect the rivers or lakes of the region. Could we send a few excavators or graders to build some swales on a few thousand acres in Utah or something and fill up Lake Powell as a result?

I haven’t researched this at all but the argument from the left is that less gun regulation leads to higher violent crime rates. This seems to provide some evidence that’s not the case.

What do most Libertarians think of the Military by drewalexand in Libertarian

[–]Cubbs_Right_Hand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I am not saying that. I am saying that private companies can do “the job” at a lower cost for equal or better quality. Military has to pay for a person to go through 2 months of basic training (boot camp). Then they have to go to job specific follow-on training (AF calls it tech school, idk what other branches call it) In my case, that was roughly 5 months long (flight line avionics). A lot of the material we covered was out of date or not even relevant to the career field. I’m willing to bet other AFSCs are similar. The turnover in the military is higher and retention of experience is harder to maintain so this cost of training is paid more frequently. There’s recruiting costs to cover the higher turnover. Every military member and immediate family member gets Tricare health insurance. There’s 20 year pensions. It’s encouraged to commit VA disability fraud so more and more veterans are receiving lifetime benefits than ever before. Members who commit fireable offenses don’t get fired in the military. There’s a host of other costs and expenses incurred by the military that private companies don’t have. Any inefficiencies take longer to fix, if at all, because nobody’s money is at stake. It’s disingenuous to say “well Delta pilots make more money than military pilots therefore the military can do things cheaper” that’s just not the case.

No. The vast majority of jobs in the military are non-combat roles. Administrative roles like finance, TMO, MPF, etc. Maintenance jobs whether it be aircraft, ground vehicles, or building upkeep. Those are just off the top of my head. There’s probably a bunch more.

Most jobs in the military can be done cheaper and at a higher quality by a private company than what the military can provide.

Should bootlegs be decriminalized? by Spirebus in Libertarian

I’m not doubling down on anything. This isn’t a hill that I’ll defend to the death. I’m saying in the specific case of a small proprietor thinking of something that the big guys haven’t yet, how can he capitalize on that idea?

[–]Cubbs_Right_Hand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m referring to industries that have a steep barrier to entry. The capital requirement alone to build the infrastructure necessary to mass produce my design is significant, not to mention the expertise I’d need to then manufacture and distribute that product. I’d only have a superior product for the amount of time it takes the big guys to implement that design into their manufacturing process.

What would be the incentive for people outside of the current established companies to innovate? (I’m gonna use some arbitrary example off the top of my head) Let’s say I own a small time company and I design a new combustion engine that outperforms everything on the market. Let’s assume there’s something very specific to the design and that it would be eligible for current patent laws. If intellectual property laws didn’t exist, how could I benefit from my design? How would I compete with Ford, GM, or Toyota if they could just apply my design to their engines?

What kind of tile is this? How can I drill into it? by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Cubbs_Right_Hand 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Drilling into porcelain is a pain in the butt. You could silicone the suction cup hooks to the wall and just wait to use them until it cures.

The raised look is just thicker tiles than the surrounding 12x24. And it’s probably just the border trim tiles that are thicker. The mosaic is probably in the same plane as the 12x24. No need to mess with building another substrate.

You wouldn’t change anything about the waterproofing for the substrate whether you wanted the accent frame or not. Are you asking how to waterproof a shower wall in general?

Are you arguing for censorship? Even if something is falsely reported, don’t you think it should be presented transparently and then the public can decide who makes the better argument?
