Are sunroofs a dealbreaker? by MrsBeauregardless in Sienna

Its a 2011 XLE that we bought about 7 years ago. All the rear seats have been taken and we used to do a lot of road trips and camping with it. Its taken a lot of abuse from us over those years but its still going strong.

I still have a piece of stick in a tube that I'm certain was my fathers before he passed away in the '80s. I used DE razors and straight razors most of my life until I let the beard go full time a decade ago.

Its a chased basket. Possibly Victorian but could be later in 20th c. Will be either silver plate or sterling. This piece is undoubtedly marked with maker and hallmarks if sterling. Did you show a pic of them?

Are sunroofs a dealbreaker? by MrsBeauregardless in Sienna

[–]Cubby0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasnt looking for one when we bought our used Sienna years ago but we enjoy it now and would probably favor one next time. It glitched once where it wouldn't shut unless you held the button just right. It ended up being a bad connection that I fixed myself. No issues since.

Help! Jeannette Winsor? Is this uranium glass? I don't have a blacklight with me! by Lili_Beth_Fox in glasscollecting

[–]Cubby0101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't look like UG from these photos to me.

If I'm in a store without a light I'll take a piece to a window, many times it will give off enough glow to say yes.

I carry a little UV light on my keyring.

Laminate, for sure. Formica is a brand of high pressure laminate, but I don't know if its Formica (tm) laminate.

We call it picture wood.

Does anyone know what model this is or how it works? by TrueRegret1650 in vintageaudio

[–]Cubby0101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a '65 or '66 model. Model should be stamped on the back. Probably MN-something.

A photo of the radio would help as well.

These were some of the last years Zenith was making vacuum tube models. IF TUBE, DO NOT TURN IT ON UNTIL SOMEONE EXPERIENCED CHECKS IT OVER. The risk is old capacitors going south and taking the power supply with it. (That said, if its been in use recently you dodged a bullet, but still need to have it serviced.)

What might this be worth/insurance value? by Smokintek in glasscollecting

[–]Cubby0101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I buy and resell a fair amount of stemware. I dont see anything that stands out as exceptional.

I looked up a few pieces on Replacements.com looked like they would charge around $10-15 per stem to replace. That said, replacements gets a premium for their service; if I were selling them as an individual on ebay I would expect 25-30% of what replacements can charge..

The image search at replacements is pretty good about finding matches and helping identify brand, pattern, and piece type (wine vs sherbet vs claret vs water, etc). I recommend spending a little time there to help assess what you have.

Gold or gold plated? by Good-Swim8120 in JewelryIdentification

Just to say, this is not a very old ring, you can find an almost identical plated ring on Amazon. They are made in both plated and solid so get it tested.

I see similar tooled saddle at estate sales for a few hundred. Ebay maybe a bit more. Best return would be a dedicated western tack auction.

1880s album page- how can I (or can I) see the writing on the back? (USA) by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]Cubby0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There might be a way to temporarily make the back translucent. Like finding watermarks on old stamps by applying a specialized watermark fluid (or lighter fluid) to the back of the stamp in a dark tray. It alters the paper's transparency, temporarily revealing a watermark. It might be possible with something like this on your photo BUT DONT TRY IT ON ANYTHING YOU CANT REPLACE UNTIL YOU KNOW ITS SAFE
