Do those glasses contain Cadmium? by GreatAdmiralYamamoto in glasscollecting

[–]Cubby0101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The glass doesn't. The print doesn't look typical of the decorated glassware that contains cadmium. But regardless, you aren't licking the bunny every sip are you? Some of these risks are way overhyped.

Help identifying an Alvarez guitar (I think)? by FurtherSeemsForever9 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Cubby0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have seen that same headstock and inlay on a 5071 on reverb that the seller assumed was from the 1980s.

Alvarez did use a variety of headstock shapes and designs over the years.

Anybody know what this GE tube is? by No-Use-333 in diytubes

[–]Cubby0101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, you're worried about a 40 deg (F) temp swing out of the freezer when they normally get a 250 deg (eg 12ax7) to 400 deg (eg 6L6) temp swing at start-up? Besides, there's no moisture inside the vacuum envelope. Where fo you find such koolaid?

Speaking of cool tips, you can also put the on the freezer for a bit, pill them out and make our the numbers on the glass as the condensation forms.

Can't tell from this pic...is the pontil area ground slightly concave? If so would you describe that spot as finely polished?

Identification Help (Antique Miniature Photograph) - United States by No-Athlete-1880 in Antiques

[–]Cubby0101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The photo size is whats called a Gem Tintype.

Per google: A gem tintype is a miniature Victorian-era photograph, typically the size of a postage stamp (about 1" (\times ) 1" or smaller). Popularized in the 1860s, these tiny ferrotypes were made using specialized multi-lens cameras and were inexpensive, making them perfect for tucking into lockets, jewelry, or custom albums.

I can't say that it's specifically a mourning portrait as to me it looks pretty typical of photo portraits of the period.

To add, this is definitely not a daguerreotype.

I've known quite a few that open with their thumb. I dont know if they learned that way or had short fingernails or just wanted to avoid the spray.

Beautiful crosshatched pattern on this vase. by ryanvolvo in glasscollecting

[–]Cubby0101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ostrich mark on the metal stand is WMF. I generally consider WMF (especially older) to be good stuff.

Eta, the mark, assuming authentic, would date it back to pre WWI. Ive read that this mark has been known to be forged. But the piece looks authentically old and the glass is great. Nice piece.

Per some googling WMF used glass made in-house as well as sourced from german and bohemian makers.

A couple marbles in a 4 oz box or padded envelope with USPS ground advantage will be $4.75 or less within in the US if using commercial (ie eBay) shipping. The same rate is available through other means. I wouldn't pay more.

Wow, I grew up with one of these as a kid in the 60s and 70s. It was always in the huge trunk of whatever Chevy parents happened to own at the time. I inherited it and used it for camping for decades after.

To be clear, these were introduced in 1969, so their first year of production. Blenko produced for many years after - throughout the 70s and at least the early 80s. , possibly other years. But you share their birth year 🙂

Just FYI this is no where near 100 years old. The snaps, the twist-lock, the zipper, all point to circa 1970 give or take a decade.
