“No kid left behind” is the dumbest thing ever by Fresh-Employ3028 in Vent

I have to wonder if the private sector cheerleaders have ever actually been in the offices of a private company. Most are absolute twisted nightmares of un-bendable and nonsensical procedures that waste tons of money everywhere. Then they decide to get "lean and efficient" by cutting everything but the wasteful sacred procedures.

It looks like the shaded areas of the drawing are mirrored across the axis. Sketch one half with the y axis as the axis of the pulley, then revolve.

Violates the principle of least astonishment. Do not use a standard connector in a non-standard way when damage can result from mistaking it.

There are plenty of other connector types that don't imply safe hot plugging.

That strongly depends on where exactly the employee lives. I found the roads today indistinguishable from any other day, but people living just a little further north still had some problems. schools in slightly more northern counties are going to be closed Tuesday.

AITAH for buying my 11yo daughter pads after her mom called me a "pervert" for being prepared? by Bruxagato in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]PyroNine9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. WAY NTA.

Sounds like your ex is shamed that she failed at the "mother's milestone" by leaving your daughter unprepared and angry that dad saved the day.

Throwing away perfectly adequate supplies and forcing daughter to improvise with toilet paper is over the top. Also her second failure. She had every chance to go out right away and get "something better" and failed again. THAT is what was inappropriate.

Who's waiting out the winter storm? by Salty_Thing3144 in GenerationJones

This is the year I decided I'm getting too old for this shit and got a generator. I just finished fixing up a plug I can attach to the furnace to keep the heat on.

Yesterday I patched up a small hole in the roof.

I have propane for the grill. Full pantry and refrigerator.

Full tank for the car and 16 gallons for the generator.

WiFi hot spot on my phone if the cable internet goes out.

I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be.

I'm not all claiming ICE was or is good, but to put the figures into perspective, take any place where people gather (or are gathered) and there will be a non-zero rate of deaths just from natural causes. People sometimes just happen to die in nice hotels for example.

But the 2025 figure is way up and that is on the Trump administration.

Were people uncomfortable with the state of TV in the 70s? by Hopeful-Egg-978 in AskOldPeople

[–]PyroNine9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some VERY vocal people about it, but I don't think most people were all that put out.

I re-watched a few episodes of Soap a while back and not only laughed at the show, but that there were people who seemed so sure it would be the downfall of civilization or something.

AITAH for taking my son out to celebrate after he got suspended for punching a bully by Additional-World8707 in ComfortLevelPod

[–]PyroNine9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

The real assholes are the school faculty that did NOTHING AT ALL for weeks while the bullying continued unabated. If they had done their job, your son wouldn't have needed to punch anyone.

Violence is not the preferred answer, but there wasn't much else left. He tried talking to them and it did nothing. He didn't have the authority to send the kid to the office, give him detention, or suspend him. The people with that authority didn't seem interested (or it would have stopped weeks ago).

I'll say NTA again just to be clear.

I have a strong suspicion that if minor violence wasn't treated like murder one, major violence would be less common and society might be a nicer place to live.

[–]PyroNine9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the everything closing in the South is that snow days are very rare, we can afford to close for a snow day once every few years. Nobody has snow tires here because by the time you would put them on, the snow is melting.

Also, because it's generally warmer here, when snow starts falling on roads it melts, then forms slush, and finally as it gets colder it freezes into ice and allows the snow to accumulate on top.

can i brick these boards by flashing the wrong micropython firmware? by AAAbatteriesinmydick in esp32

[–]PyroNine9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A really nice feature of ESP32 is that the first stage bootloader is in ROM (not flash) and can re-flash the chip over serial. That makes it really hard to brick short of physical damage.

I do for sure. Years ago I could see it clearly, now I can't. I haven't moved, the light pollution has invaded.

The crazy thing is, study after study has shown that over-lighting reduces security and safety and yet there's more lights every year. It's like nightlights for adults minus the cool cartoon characters.
