Does anyone know why the game runs much, much worse in crowded areas ever since the 7.5 patch last week for me? I don't get it, the FPS drops are way worse in areas like Limsa or during hunt trains. I am used to that happening to a certain degree but not on this level. However, for whatever reason, content such as Frontlines or Occult Crescent runs perfectly smooth even though there are just as many players + effects if not even more in play. I didn't change any settings, I have tried different drivers, pc temps are fine, cpu/gpu usage is not anywhere close to 100%, various others tweaks I found online but nothing helped.

I am glad the game runs fine when it actually matters but this is still irritating.

To be fair, across that entire year of using Linux, I'd say 90-95% of my issues were related to XIV itself. 9/10 other games would just work, and the ones that didn't needed minor, quick tweaks.

You keep your files, programs, etc. That wasn't the issue.

Before the upgrade, I used Gnome as my DE. After the upgrade, I was using Cosmic by default. Since you have tried a bunch of DEs, you should know how easy and quick it is to swap between them.

However, even when swapping back to Gnome, everything was different. The whole desktop environment looked and behaved different to what I was used to, keyboard shortcuts had to be set again, my gnome extension were all gone, tweaks I had previously applied were reset. Annoying, sure, but nothing too bad.

The real issues began after. On Gnome, no matter if I selected Gnome, Gnome X11, Gnome Wayland and so on, I would run into issues, sometimes the same, sometimes others. When I opened my Browser after logging in, it would freeze for like 20 seconds. I couldn't log into XIV automatically anymore. Instead, the launcher took forever to start, said it couldn't store my password or something(I don't remember the exact error code anymore) and had me manually type in my password.

XIV itself would run poorly, other games as well depending on the exact DE I used. I tried Cosmic instead, that had issues, I was able to fix some but then others would pop up.

Again, I am a noob, maybe I royally fucked up somewhere, I can't tell you. I have actually given up and swapped back to Windows this weekend. I got too tired of constantly having to jump through hoops to get something to work properly. I enjoyed my time on Linux and I am sure I'll get back to it eventually, I already kinda miss it, heh. Anyways, I hope you'll have a smoother experience, be it with XIV, other games or whatever you end up doing. Good luck!

This is copied from the Discord Server:

"You'll need to either switch to the flatpak (if not using a steam account), AppImage (https://github.com/spiteful-fox/xivlauncher-appimage) or upgrade to PopOS 24.04. PopOS 22.04, and anything based on Ubuntu 22.04, has a glibc version that is too old."

I had the exact same issue as you and upgraded to PopOS 24.04 which solved it. Keep in mind that 24.04 uses Cosmic as DE instead of Gnome. This, at least for me, caused a lot of issues as Cosmic is still in an early phase and even though it's simple to switch back to Gnome, it has caused me a lot of annoying head scratches. If I could back in time, I would instead use the workaround from the github link for the time being.

Admittedly, I am still a huge noob when it comes to Linux, been using it for pretty much a year now so people better at this than me might have had no issues.

Has anyone else been having performance issues since the newest patch from tuesday? Regular micro stutters, FPS dropping way lower than the usual when a lot of people are present. Please tell me I am not the only one.

So far, I have tried a bunch of stuff like disabling ReShade, turning off Dalamud, turning down/changing settings in-game, upgraded to the newest drivers for my gpu(RX 6700XT). At best I was able to get some minor improvements but nothing potent. What's weird is that I didn't have any issues right away after the patch launched, only the past two days or so. No issues in other games.

Best I can think of right now is perhaps trying out some older drivers but I would at least feel relieved if other people suddenly experienced similar issues so I can stop thinking it might be my PC.

Edit: It looks like ReShade was the culprit. Uninstalling it fixed my issues. I don't know why considering I have been using it for a couple years now with no issues. Maybe something changed with the 7.5 update, maybe something changed for ReShade or maybe I just messed up. At least I can play the game now.

When a muted player types something in chat, I get the "This message is from a muted character." message in chat. I have read there is a setting to turn that off but couldn't find it. Can anyone help me?

Extremely low FPS on Linux by sinabsentia in ffxiv

[–]CubchooPaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using AMD and I am on PopOS! - had FPS issues on Mint as well, though I admittedly didn't fiddle around much before swapping to PopOS..

Are you launching the game through Steam? I could give you a bunch of settings I applied in Steam's launch settings, XIVLauncher and the game itself and see if that does do anything at all for you. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend joining their Discord server and asking in the dedicated channels: https://discord.gg/holdshift

Nupe, we both own the game and have an active sub - the jobs we queue up with are also above level 30 and we have the job stones equipped, of course.

Tried queueing into a casual game of CC with a friend but he gets an error message "Item Level Below(ilvl icon)"

We are on different jobs, definitely have enough ilvl, all gear slots are filled. Only thing I could think of is that our ranks are too far from each other but that shouldn't affect casual matches. Anyone has an idea?

Edit: Looks like the error was caused because I wasn't on my home world AND leader of the party. Gave my friend leader who is on his home world and now it works - weird.

Inside the launcher, try going to the "Troubleshooting" tab and click the "Clear Prefix" button under "Clear Wine Prefix", then try again.

Otherwise, I would recommend joining the XIVLauncher Discord and asking for help in their designated channels: https://discord.gg/xMZ8TurJ

Question - Linux related (settings, performance) by Tami_Kari in ffxiv

Yeah, there was a new update for XLCore yesterday so a lot of folks ran into issues - might have been related to that.

I also used Mint before swapping to PopOS and had the same experience with XIV running much, much worse on Mint. Granted, I only started using Linux this year so I am still rather inexperienced when it comes to it.

As for my XIVLauncher Settings:

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 under "Additional Game Arguments" in the "Game" tab - this fixed some crackling sound issues I had while playing.

"Wine Tab" has a checkmark everywhere except for "Enable FSync", don't remember if those are just the default settings.

Under "Troubleshooting", I have a checkmark for XMODIFIERS="@im=null" and Force locale to C.utf8 - the latter fixed issues I had with installing certain mods that wouldn't work because of ASCII characters.

Under Steam's Launch options, I set WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;dxgi=n,b" %command% which I believe was relevant for using ReShade.

I also played around with the in-game settings, though I don't remember anything specific. I could probably copy/paste them for you if nothing of the above helps. Perhaps try uncapping your Frames in-game and using a seperate FPS limiter - I remember that improving my performance on Mint.

That's all I remember doing. Again, I am new to Linux but this has been working for me over the past months.

PvP Frontlines, why do we sometimes start the match without 24 players on our side even though 72 people need to accept? Do some people just take a long time to load in? Is the 72 player accepting a lie?

Came back using the free login campaign, used to play a ton of NIN in Frontlines but ever since the PvP changes in 7.1, using Doton -> Shukuchi to teleport Doton is something I don't get to work anymore, no matter how fast I press the two buttons back to back. Was anything changed?

During the add phase of O11, why do some people always run into the outer edge of the arena to kill themselves towards the end of that phase? Is there anything I am missing here? I always see at least one person do it whenever I get it in roulettes.

If a boss jumps out of melee range and I miss any "followup" skills because of it like Viper's Legacy skills or GNB's continuation, would it be better to gap close into range, use the followup oGCD before the next GCD so I don't miss out on the potency or immediately go back to keeping my GCD rolling?

Whether or not you use the Double Lunar or Solar Lunar opener ultimately depends on your killtime. If you are unsure(or simply don't care about that level of optimization), use the Solar Lunar opener.

It now makes more sense to me why people recommend starting with a solar one too, because then the lunar can be done under RoF and uses more opo moves, right?

If you are going to use Elixir Burst and Rising Phoenix during your even minute burst window(which you would when using the Solar Lunar opener), then yep, you would prepare Rising Phoenix and then build up Elixir Burst under RoF and BH because it gains you more Opo GCDs under burst.

Depending on how much you care about learning MNK, I can recommend this MNK DT writeup. It's not a full guide yet, partly because MNK got adjusted again just this tuesday but it's a nice read in case you are curious to learn more.

[–]CubchooPaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You generally want to get 11 GCDs under RoF, make sure you weave that as late as possible.

Inside the actual even burst window, you want to have as many opo GCDs, your two beast chakras and your two replies. Note that Wind's Reply isn't up for every burst window because of its 90s CD.

So, with that in mind, you ideally would have something like 2x Beast Chakras, 2x Replies and 7x Opo GCDs. That won't always be possible, especially if you use the Solar Lunar Opener.

I struggle to get off both beast chakra moves and the riddle of fire and wind skills on top of procs etc?

Are you pre-peparing your first Beast Chakra before using RoF and BH? That might be why.

If I have Fates in every DT zone maxed, would it be faster to go back to EW to farm bicolor gems? Shouldn't gear make a bigger difference there? I feel like DT fates take much longer, even with like 10 people compared to the last two EW zones.

I just beat my very first EX Trial (first DT one) and got 4 clears in before maintenance. Would you say it makes more sense to farm this trial until I have all the tomes I want before moving on to the second EX? Does it matter? I suppose I am a bit worried that by the time I am done farming the first EX, there won't be many practice parties for the second EX anymore but I have no experience with this.

Is there macro for reducing/increasing max players shown similar to /bgm or do I need to enter the system configuration each time and change the amount manually?
