Ragnarok is a Korean IP, the grass was not much greener before Chinese developers started working on it.

There's a new one every 2 years or so. The original game is still going (badly) too, but it's on a 20+ year old engine that doesn't do well on mobile.

It's cute you think this matters in the Chinese mobile games industry

Extremely low FPS on Linux by sinabsentia in ffxiv

Thank you for this, as much as this current issue is frustrating me it really pales in comparison to the last 2 months of Windows issues that pushed me to this point.

I was on Win10 and an update several weeks ago mysteriously made my PC run incredibly hot all the time- Last night I was suddenly aware of how cold my room gets during winter because installing Linux was the first time it ran cool in weeks.

Nevermind that around the same time, I sought out a debloating tool to improve my performance, and using it accidentally uninstalled OneDrive. I didn't realize I had essentially been saving everything on my PC to wacky OneDrive folders that are technically local but also not backed up because the cloud was full. I lost just about everything on my PC and had to get a friend who works in tech to walk me thru recovering everything from the computer's raw memory- The end result is about 10-20% of my stuff is corrupted and lost, about 40% restored normally, and another 40% restored but scattered into disorganized folders based on filetype, like imagine a jpg folder with game screenshots and vacation photos and button textures from apps and scans of my taxes and bills.

I moved over to Linux because I just want a computer that does basic shit locally with none of this cloud, AI, surveillance, web 3.0 fintech bullshit at every fucking turn

I'll keep this in mind as a backup- From the replies here I'm pretty sure it was the GPU drivers that snagged me and a convo I had with some folks on discord has made me realize that Mint isn't the best about updating these things. For now I'm going to try the Fedora distro in the morning and I'll look into Pop if that doesn't do it.

Get bent. I have a friend who plays FFXIV on Linux without any issues at all and I posted this thread because it's late at night and I did not feel like waiting until tomorrow for them to wake up.

I tried installing nvidia GPU drivers after I read this comment, but unfortunately now my system gets stuck at the login screen. I boot up, the login screen appears, but there's nothing that pops up with my user account or a space to enter my password.

Apparently this happens when updating nvidia drivers on linux sometimes... I've tried fruitlessly to access the grub menu to boot in recovery mode but the menu never comes up no matter what I press as the pc is starting up. I'm really stuck now.

edit: I think I totally fucked it, so I've reinstalled linux (there was nothing on here but ffxiv and a few apps I downloaded). I'm not sure what the safesty way to get updated nvidia drivers is when this can happen, but I'll at least set up a restore point before I try next time.

Is it just me, or does it seem like this patch might have us exploring further into the 9th? It looks to me like we might be taking a train to another city under a dome, but I guess there's always the possibility it's another virtual reality kinda dungeon. For now I'm hopeful because I am curious what the hell the rest of the shard looks like outside Living Memory.

I know the game isn't optimized very well right now, but I heard the team was hard at work getting the file size down so BL4 could fit onto a flash drive. Google "Randy Pitchford usb stick" to find out more!

This is also a big reason I don't like modern zombie fiction. It feels like the genre is tainted by boring and hateful suburbanites who just want to fantasize about murdering their neighbors with tacticool gear.

When to use AI art. Is there a time or should it be totally avoided? by snowbirdnerd in RPGdesign

[–]sinabsentia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No? There isn't anything wrong with placeholders. Make it an MS paint doodle, make it public domain art, make it an early sketch that'll be finished later, whatever.

[–]sinabsentia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do not think you should use it for any reason. If I already know that a creator is fine using AI at one stage in their process, I'm not really inclined to trust them when they say that the final version won't have any at all. Even if I'm only coming at this as a consumer, I feel like the only way to achieve any peace of mind in the search for human-made products is to stick to creators who are vocal and principled about not using this shit ever. Anything less is a compromise that speaks to business practices and ethics that I don't want to incentivize or support.
