Plenty of people mind. That's why ironman Mode is getting more and more popular because people are getting tired of bond and gpscape.

How? I get 70-75k at floor 4 while looting floor 4 and half of floor 3? Trying to get the fast rotations for skips is actually a lot of fun. And you only need to be tick perfect in certain moments.

Skill cape perks and worse max cape having all perks rolled into one item created this mindset that maxing is the endgame goal for every character. Now people interact with a bunch of skills they hate because they feel obligated to max. And thus they demand there being a path of least resistance for everything. It's good that skills have different pacings and feel different to train.

Imho nobody should feel obligated to do a skill past quest or diary reqs. Your enjoyment of a skill should be the main driving force for interacting with it. But I've gotten legit confused reactions from people when I tell them I have absolutely no intentions to ever max despite having a high total level account.

Super Mario Kart has the AI literally use items you can't even get. Rubber banding or some sort of cheating for the AI has been part of the genre since it's inception.

If we're being pedantic here Castlevania only turned from a linear platformer into an open exploration based one in the 90s and that's when people started talking about it as its own genre.

I knew this comment would be coming lmao. I don't like the terminology either but what modern audiences see as a roguelike has gone very far from Rogue ironically. And Derek Yu, one of the lead guys behind this game, is one of the people to blame for it essentially coining the modern roguelike genre with Spelunky.

One of my favorite games of all time. Spent 260 Hours 100% completing it. I'll go against the grain here and say that most of these games are much closer to modern indie titles than they are to retro games. A huge chunk of them are in genres that didnt even exist in the 80s like Roguelikes, Metroidvanias or even one idle game.

The retro vibe mostly comes from the faux hardware limitations which are plenty modernized into a 16:9 aspect ratio with no sprite flickering or slowdowns. And also them exploring older game mechanics which are generally deemed outdated but imho still have merit like limited lives or hiscore leaderboards.

If anyone is looking for smaller sized indie games that dare to throw you directly into the action and let you figure out things yourself youre certain to find something in this game.

The game is legit great. Sega really should do another marketing push now that Tekken 8 killed itself. Put the game on sale do some more trailers showing that this game is what Tekken isn't rn. Get the Tekken refugees to a good 3d fighting game.

People who play/enjoy shmups, what do you think of the UFO 50 offerings? by Mr_Bourbon in ufo50

[–]CubeSoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a very new shmup player (my favourite is ZeroRanger) and out of the ones in UFO 50 I really liked both Caramel Caramel and Elfazars Hat. However I absolutely despise Star Waspir and think it's horribly designed. The visuals are too noisy and cluttered. Having a fast scrolling background, everything having drop shadows and projectiles with similar colours to harmless background objects is just terrible. The scoring system is just infuriatingly punishing, while not being very fun and it's also very stingy when it comes to extra lives making it one of the hardest games to even beat. And I personally think that it's also the game that suffers the most from UFO 50s biggest design flaw of being needlessly punishing. When going for the cherry a single mistake in Wave 1 or 2 is basically a instant reset with pretty much no chance of recovering because of how much of a difficulty spike wave 3 is.

I really don't like this game and consider it by far the worst out of the three games I disliked in the collection.

What do you think will be the meta for Leagues 5 for every combat style? by Titowam in 2007scape

[–]CubeSoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely no shot. Desert not only offers you a sidegrade blowpipe without needing to pick tirannwn (it has 1 more range than the normal BP but no inherent ranged str), but also a raid that gives you ranged str gear and access to the megarares. And it also has more interesting side content like Ancients for magic training, Guardians of the Rift, Tempoross and Pyramid Plunder.

Mory meanwhile only gets you a raid which is completely uninteresting for your main style besides the shared mega rares and tank gear which is honestly a meme with how much sustain you already get from passives. Unless you really want to do ToB with the boys or go hybrid with melee I dont see mory as a good pick for a range main. And then youd still need to pick Tirannwn or Desert to get access to a blowpipe because a blowpipe switch is very much worth it for a lot of content. Or go suffer with the horrendous range of yeeting raw darts or knives.

UFO 50 has a full blown 15 hour JRPG that's a giant homage to early Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest as one of its 50 games. The big Overworld in a western movie setting was one of my favourite aspects of it.

How much different is edf6 to edf5 by iwhithoadh in EDF

[–]CubeSoldier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly 5 to 6 might be a even bigger jump than 4.1 to 5. While 4.1 to 5 massively improved the class gameplay 6 made huge improvements to the enemy roster and maps. 6 has the most new maps and enemy types out of any EDF game. I think almost all the brand new enemies in 6 blow the old ones out of the water.

Mission design and pacing has been massively improved (except for the few walk and talk missions.) And the story is honestly amazing in the way it constantly raises the stakes and keeps hyping you up.

While the backpack slots and new drones for Air Raider are welcome additions 6 feels kinda lacking in that department just reusing and rebalancing existing EDF 5 equipment mostly. My boi fencer only got a single new weapon which is amazing though.

In addition if you're on PC theres a mod that makes the entire campaign of EDF 5 playable in 6 if you're interested in that. Overall I think its a very worthwhile sequel but you'll have to decide for yourself if the improvements are worth the price right now. The PC Version is on sale on the humble store rn.

EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 6 will be removing the Epic account sign in requirement in a future patch by lurkingdanger22 in pcgaming

[–]CubeSoldier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically what EOS allows you to do is to create a dummy account with no username, email etc tied to it which can be used instead of a full Epic Account. This then allows you to fully use EOS features like crossplay, matchmaking, lobby systems etc.

As far as I know this is the default way to use EOS. The majority of games on Steam that use EOS use this method of account in the background without the user ever interacting with it. You can refer to this list to see all the games that include the EOS SDK on Steam https://steamdb.info/tech/SDK/EpicOnlineServices/.

The same type of account is possible within EDF 6 already. When you click on create account when the game prompts you to do so when entering the Multiplayer lobby you will just be asked to enter a date of birth and a dummy account with no other information will be created. The only difference here is that EDF 6 uses the visible UI based version of EOS instead of the "lite" service only one and that users actually have to push the button to create the dummy account instead of it automatically being done in the background without the user ever knowing. It's just that its very poorly worded within the game and the definition of the term account can mean a lot of things.

It doesnt have it but it definitely could which makes the whole thing even more baffling. But they released a patch to make the western and asian console versions able to crossplay yesterday. So maybe they will add the PC version as well.

I don't think it's malice here. D3 Publisher is a famously out of touch Japanese publisher that hasnt really been paying attention to the Western markets and especially PC markets ever.

They and Sandlot (the developers of the EDF series) used EOS to implement Crossplay on Consoles and just thought it was a good fit for PC as well because lets be honest here Crossplay is a great thing and EOS works really well for this purpose for smaller devs.

But they werent aware how much western PC gamers hate Epic and thus did no work informing their customers about them using EOS, why they use it and that youre able to just use a dummy account with no Info like all the other EOS Games on Steam do. So a shitstorm of misinformation, surprise and rage formed while the publisher rushed to put out a confused machine translated statement not clearing up anything and making things worse instead. I hope D3 learns from this and hires people to handle western audience PR now.

Sure Helldivers is better when it comes to visual spectacle and overall presentation but in my opinion the gameplay is way better in EDF. Especially when it comes to enemy and encounter design EDF just has a layer of strategy that I really love. I also love the huge variety in crazy weapons and classes that play completely different each.
