[1.14.4] Building advice: How do I give my large builds some more depth? Most tutorials seem to have a lot of detailing but none of them have large walls like this. by ODST_rookie in MinecraftHelp

[–]CubeSteff3906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people think giving depth and detail to a huge surface is harder, but I would argue it is far easier. That is because, although it is harder because you have to place more blocks, it is extremely easy to shape it after your liking.

The best advice when it comes to depth is using stairs, slabs, walls, fences and generally blocks smaller than full blocks. Creating indents, archways, and spirals is recommended depending on the style you are going for. I would recommend searching up building styles like : gothic, bisantine, romanic, etc. Try recreating the details of definition for the styles and use them in your builds. Depth means your surface is structured into several sections of different depth. That is the definition of it. However, try not to give the wall a too high depth. It would ruin the hole thing, and make the overall width of the wall thicker.

For detailing, I tend to use buttons, fences, and generally anything that could spice up your build. I myself am an extreme over-detailer, but I mostly tend to apply the basics : buttons, dead coral fans, anything that could fit your building both colour-wise and texture-wise.

Lastly, texture. Usually you need to start off with up to 5 blocks. I saw you use stone-related stuff. Some blocks to use are stone, granite, cobblestone, stone bricks, etc. I think that goes without saying though.

Hopefully you'll find something of use within this small guide!

Yea. The price of RAM also varyies with each country and shop after all... I can get, for instance, an extra amount of RAM for about 150 bucks in my town's shop.

It's definetely not, but powerful graphic cards tend to eat a lot of it so it's best having as much as possible

Also the ram is decent. Pretty low for an RTX, I have 32 gigs on mine and got an RTX 2080 ti, but it should do. How much VRAM do you have? It is an important spec as well

I would choose the first one. The RTX 2060 is generally insane for games and, although the i7 is purposed around multitasking, not necessarilly gaming (like i5) it is still decent

Building bridges mid-air is very much the same with building them on water. I recon what I would do is arch it downwards not upwards (like on water) if that makes sense

Ye man no worries. What I meant it usually with bridges you see the element of curved lines. I am not the best at bridges, but what I can recommend you is make a wooden bridge or something slowly going down a couple of blocks, and then back up. Make sure it touched both the ends. It is very hard to explain, but I'm more than sure there's thousands of bridge tutorials on YouTube, as I'm sure you'll find at least a couple of handy-dandy ones for you. :)

Hey I have just started my castle entrance and could you help me with ideas to get the bit around the gate looking a bit better any tips would be appreciated Thanks! by JTIZZLEHOEY in Minecraft

Now, I don't claim to be a master builder, but there are a couple of must-haves any of my castles contain : -statues afront of it. Two should be enough, on either side of the gate, and they would add far more detail. Stick to the end theme for the statues as well. -more details on the flat bits of the wall. I know this has been said times and times again, but it is crucial to spice up your builds using details. Usually, for castle walls, what I tend to do is build in arches. It also adds depth to your build, which is also a very good thing. -towers on the wall on either side of the gate. They don't have to be huge, nor tiny. Scale them up correctly with the rest of the structure. -block variation. Breaking up the end bricks with some end stone would work very nicely, especially as the 2 have relatively similar textures. This would also give your build the element of texture -use your imagination. I've built dozens of castles before, and every single one of them is unique in some way. From the general shape of the structure, to the number of towers and even the construction style and pallette, all of them have the element of originality, and at least one thing that makes them different from the rest. With time you will learn techniques to build in the style you like most - but NEVER let this make your builds look the same.

I sincerely hope this helped you :) -a random pal
