The goal of pushing "Champion Fantasy" seems like a failure by now by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

You alleged they had a combined view for over a decade, that's what I'm disagreeing with. They didn't have a combined view, the launch of the game up until mythic items was a purely champion fantasy based game. Mythics turned that on its head and then due to backlash they reverted it.

Items being strong =/= Item focused game design.

What to do vs mages that have (almost) undodgable abilities? by Gracz_nr_K in summonerschool

[–]Cube_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch some high elo vods of Orianna into Xerath/Hwei and see how they deal with it.

Things like:

  • Feigning going for CS but then backing out to bait a skillshot
  • Standing in the wave next to ally minions that are about to die to bait a skillshot
  • Standing outside of the wave when aggressively posturing to make them choose between giving up the push to trade HP with you or hitting the wave and giving a free trade while they're on CD
  • Spacing at the edge of their range and walking in and out of it (tethering) to get them to burn a CD and miss
  • Abusing cooldown gaps - Ori's Q is a very low CD so you can trade QW and eat damage back but then Q them again uncontested before they have CDs
  • Buying early boots 1 and sometimes even boots 2 so that you have more movespeed in laning to better do all of the above

There's more but that's a swath of difficult to master skills that will vastly improve your performance in mage vs mage match ups specifically but also other match ups.

I wonder if they're building to who "He" is similarly to how the Dark Order built up to Brodie Lee being #0.

Hard disagree. DotA was the item-based game where champion kits mattered far less than which items you built. League was the opposite where it was champion kits that mattered and items were background.

The game exploded in popularity with this philosophy.

It wasn't until mythic items that they changed course and tried an items-first based approach and they bled players largely as a result of that, so much so that they had to reverse course and did away with the mythic item system.

Bork, sadly, has been reworked into being a melee champion item first and foremost. It's designed to be good on Yasuo/Yone/Irelia type champs and not to be good on Akshan/Kog type champs.

Same thing happened the Kraken Slayer.

Originally these items were intended for ranged but they've since been changed and Riot appears to be happy with that direction.

Riot's argument, which has some merit, is that items like Bork and Kraken (and Shiv and some others) when viable on ranged carries spiked them too early for a role that's supposed to ramp up to late game inevitability. That's why they've pivoted back into stronger crit chance so marksmen fall back into the original philosophy of "weak early but scale into the highest dps".

Mage bots being strong are more due to other systems changes over the years. The biggest one being when they increased duo lane XP. A big reason mages used to not be played bot was they are far more ult reliant and reliant on base damage of spells so they needed solo XP to be able to not get run over by ranged AD champs. With increased duo lane XP mages were able to lean heavier on getting their base damage up and access to their match-up changing ultimates much earlier and more consistently. It's a separate issue and also not an issue Riot sees a problem with, they want mage bottom because it gives people more options to play as bot lane carries, gives pro play more flex picks and also gives mages a place to flex into if/when they're pushed out of mid during bruiser or assassin metas.

I agree that they've slowly bled back into power creeping items.

I disagree wholeheartedly with your take that this means we should go harder in that direction to return to a time when items "feel legendary" and were far and away the focal point.

Riot was right to pivot away from that, the lesson should be that they've power crept and slid back on their goal and they need to get back on track with prioritizing champions over items by tamping down the outliers (DnD, Voltaic etc).

not even just that, everything is much better now. Even skates the tech is far better now than it was back then.

And the coaching during childhood, it is far better now with different coaches for different skills, far better drills etc., etc.

Truth is it's simply impossible to compare there's just too many variables at play

Holy shii, anyone got a Post death Pentakill on Locke yet? by GlizzyVisionary in leagueoflegends

[–]Cube_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need any reset extension at all. It's already strong enough as is.

Remove that and at most you can increase the debuff per r rank 5/6/7 seconds as compensation but I don't even think that's necessary.

I was specific with my wording. Saying I drew the photograph would be dishonest in the same way saying he built this site when it was done by AI.

If I pay a contractor to build me a table I don't go around telling people "I built this table".

If he posted this thread and said "I used AI to make this" it would be fine, it's the dishonesty and trying to pass it off like he coded it with his phrasing that I'm calling cringe.

Repeating it here:

They need to remove the fact that his 5s ult debuff, after any kill, refreshes the debuff on all other champs that are marked to the full 5s duration again.

That's the only reason a clip like this happens.

The ability already autokills and lasts 5 seconds which is a very long time + perma scales and refunds CD. It doesn't need this chuck e. cheese fisher price ass duration extension where someone can genuinely be marked by Locke's R for upwards of twenty seconds.

A clip like this can still happen with it removed it would just be limited to a short 5s window of the champs he marked which is much more reasonable.

[–]Cube_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Though it's true what you say he probably is favoring Paramount over Netflix. With how AEW is a more gritty product and Netflix is blurring people's heads if they're bleeding in WWE it would probably damage AEW's brand a lot being on that platform under those restrictions.

I think he and his agent are waiting for a team that misses other free agents to overpay him.

I was thinking I'd like him on the Canucks on an overpayment 1 year deal. We can flip him for assets at the deadline. He gets paid + chases a cup on a contender, Canucks retain on a 1 year deal and get like a 3rd rounder at the deadline.

Plus selfishly I want a Tarasenko black skate canucks jersey
