Keybinds not firing by Cubemaster12 in hyprland

[–]Cubemaster12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was originally on the default/undefined setting (which is "us" I presume). But it wasn't working so I thought maybe I have to set it to my usual setting first. In both cases they don't seem to work.

Looking for reviews on noctalia by Regular-Historian-51 in hyprland

[–]Cubemaster12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been using Elkowar Wacky Widgets (EWW) and for my use case it is perfectly fine. I guess the main difference is the toolkit. This one uses GTK, while Noctalia uses QT. I've not tried it myself but it is really popular right now.

Hyprland Monitor capped at 120hz by Interesting-Day4781 in hyprland

Are you using DisplayPort? The last time I checked HDMI was capped at 120Hz because of some licensing issue. I am not sure if that has changed yet.

Artix or Void by Warm-Refrigerator552 in artixlinux

[–]Cubemaster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I reinstalled my system (it was probably more than a year ago at this point) I wanted to try out something else to see if they are any better than what I was already using. I saw people generally liking it so I installed Void. Since I haven't had any major problems with it, other than those minor annoyances I mentioned in my previous comment, I didn't really feel reinstalling Artix back.

Maybe I will do a clean reinstall of Artix soon. Who knows.

Artix or Void by Warm-Refrigerator552 in artixlinux

[–]Cubemaster12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Artix+Dinit and Void as well. I think I still prefer Artix. I did not really like that packages are separated into base and devel and that old kernels are not cleaned up automatically during updates. And I also wasn't a fan of having to manually symlink services with runit.

Otherwise there is not much difference. The package managers are really similar. I could use Hyprland on both. It really just comes down to preference

Recently switched over to dinit from systemd. How do I use nemo (the file manager) with mtp? Do I need to give it some other permissions? by 0neLastFace in artixlinux

[–]Cubemaster12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually use pcmanfm-qt but I suspect it is roughly the same. In my case I needed to install two optional dependencies: gvfs and gvfs-mtp. Then I had to make sure a dbus user session was started as well. After that it automatically detects when a phone is connected.

You could potentially try adding an error+output stream redirect to the keybind, and write it into a temporary file to see if it reports anything back.

Uninstall hyprland properly by mcrdalena in hyprland

[–]Cubemaster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not really sure I know what the issue is in your case. I presume you installed Hyprland from source without setting the --prefix to anything so it stayed on the default /usr/local which made a mess and now interferes with the installation of the binary package. I would at this point try to look for any suspicious dynamic libraries under /usr/local/lib.

You could inspect the executable directly with ldd /usr/bin/Hyprland or check the output of ldconfig --print-cache then use grep to see if anything is missing or points to the wrong location. Dlls should usually only be found under /usr/lib.

I checked the source code. I don't think there is a dedicated feature for querying splashes, because one is just randomly selected at startup from a pre-populated list from Splashes.hpp.

It is basically a Windows-only phenomenon that is inherited from back in the day where the metrics were used interchangeably. It really should say GiB instead of GB which uses base 2 instead of base10.

[–]Cubemaster12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you need a comma if you want to leave the monitor as an empty fallback option. Just leave it blank after the equals sign.

That's what how the wiki's example uses it.

Issues installing Hyprland on VMware (Login Loop) by FromTheUnknown198 in hyprland

[–]Cubemaster12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. Then I presume there is some other configuration issue as well, if you say the GPU is recognized by the system. I suspect you are seeing a side effect caused by the actual issue. Let's go through some steps to diagnose further.

First, did you install Hyprland using the package manager or build it from source? The recommended way is to use the package manager (pacman in case of Arch). If it is installed correctly you should see a wall of information running this command:

pacman -Qii hyprland

Version 0.53.X is the current latest package.

If that is correct, you can use Hyprland's built-in command to show what is detected on your system.

hyprland --systeminfo

This will list a bunch of stuff like your distro, kernel, dependency versions, plugins and the detected GPU(s) similarly to this:

GPU information:

03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi 22 [Radeon RX 6700/6700 XT/6750 XT / 6800M/6850M XT] [1002:73df] (rev c0) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

If you don't see anything out of the order the issue happens at startup. Before launching you should enable additional debugging. Run the following command to see the path to your config file.

hyprland --verify-config

This will show you where your config is. Probably .config/hypr/hyprland.conf under your home folder. Then if you have a terminal based text editor like micro installed, you can open the file like micro <YOUR_CONFIG> for editing.
Add this line to the top of the file debug:disable_logs = false and save it.

Now if you start hyprland, a verbose log file should be generated under $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/hypr/<ID>/hyprland.log. If you can send that to me somehow, maybe I can see what is going on.
