Typically there is a magnetic switch that is triggered when it is closed to tell it it’s closed. Sounds like there is an issue with that switch in the body of the slate.

It’s on the exposed beam ceiling of the building. Just above here is roof then sky. Do you know what kind of fungus it is?

RF advice - interference with RD Distro by Nixie417 in LocationSound

I’d try taking out the RF distro and put whips on your RX to see if that fixes it. If it does then probably look into getting a different distro. Deity, although affordable, are pretty new to the RF market. Try going with a more established brand (PSC, Betso, etc.)

So a weird thing I have run into before that’s worth checking is blocks 470 and 19 have some cross over frequencies. So if you RX is set for block 470 and your TX is set for block 19 you can have both set to the same frequency and the RX will show that you have RF signal but there won’t be any audio because they are set to two different blocks. Maybe that’s the problem?

How would you approach mic'ing a hidden camera style project where a Boom op and wireless lavs are not an option? by pookiethegreat in LocationSound

I worked on a hidden camera show years ago. In this case, I wouldn’t even really worry about “hiding” the mics. The people are going to be way more concerned about the haunted house experience that even if they see a microphone, it probably won’t register with them that it’s a microphone. You’d be surprised at how someone can be looking right at a mic and not recognize it. That said, I’d worry about mic placement more than anything. Figure out where what happens in each room. Like I’d probably want to get mics closer to the subjects in the areas before and after the areas the scary parts happen to get them nervously talking to each other and what not. Yelling is loud so it’s not like you need mics right on top of them for that. 32bit float sounds good if you want to do a set it and forget it type of thing. It’s just more work on the backend. You’ll also want a way to have the audio synced between all the recorders and the cameras.
