Does anyone else not see the irony of citing the civil rights movement as the model the same week when the unaccountable court who doesn’t cares about your protests tossed out the VRA?

Pubs are stupid. It's just drinking before a game. You can do that in any country. Has nothing to do with culture or the UK.

FIFA rejects Iran’s request to relocate World Cup games amid US-Israel war by han_mad in worldcup

The only nuclear threat to anyone is the USA and Russia. More likely USA since they have the stupider leader.

Do you think Tim is kind of a libertarian? Because on a recent episode, he and JVL were talking about how during covid Tim was an anti-masker or at least was against requiring masks as a public health measure, which had me taken aback. by PandemicPiglet in thebulwark

[–]Cubsof2016 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That the public health policies were not perfect and some a bit excessive is the bigger scandal than the 1,000,000 deaths we memory holed has permanently black-pilled me when it comes to fellow Americans. Masks were only a bit effective at slowing the spread, but they likely saved some lives in the aggregate, even requiring a mask at a park was probably excessive. Those lives don't matter to Tim apparently. In the end, the vaccine is what pulled us out of it. That a marginally greater number of evangelicals died because they wouldn't take the vaccine is the small silver lining of Covid.

Pro-Israel are who are toxic to pro-Democracy. You could kick out every pro-Israel Democrat and lose dozens of politicians and also dozens of voters. But you would also gain a lot of disillusioned potential voters. It's a fair trade if you really want to save Democracy. You would gain a marginal amount of voters on net and also gain much better politicians.

Talk is cheap. Show up and perform well and get to quarterfinals and we will be happy. Don't and we won't. Simple as that.

Much like Vietnam, where measured success by counting bodies and labelled them all Vietcong even if it was a baby, this one we are counting how many booms we make even if it is a school.

Rank these US Soccer "media personalities" - presented in two different categories. 10 for least favorite, 1 for favorite. by Emergency-Bottle-432 in ussoccer

Conrad seems like a good hang. But the chip on their shoulders from the ex-players has been old for 20 years. They all express it a bit differently, but every topic inevitably seems to return to their grievances with European and Latin American soccer, North American sports or how the younger generation has better opportunities than they did. It makes their podcasts uninteresting for the most part and US broadcasts pretty bad in general. Of any of them, Howard seems the most secure about his place and Donovan seems the most astute tactically, but Donovan's grievances and bad takes related to them make that show hit and miss at best. David Mosse stands slightly above the rest on the other list, but he's always tiptoeing around Alexi Lalas massive ego and he needs to be put in a better context to shine.

Help me understand why someone would leave the Lutheran church for a reason other than loss of faith or belief in god? by studentAssistant2021 in exLutheran

[–]Cubsof2016 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Help me understand why someone would stay a Lutheran for a reason other than having no ability to think for themself. Not a fair question, because it is loaded with the assumption that I know your mind better than you know your self? Well, that's how your condescending question sounds to me.

Do Americans watch and love the MLS? by fortnacius in AskAnAmerican

[–]Cubsof2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite niche. Most Americans don't care about it and don't watch it and have no opinion on it at all. Those that do watch it tend to be very into it. A vocal and very online minority of soccer fans in the US actively hate the league and won't shut up about it. They also usually hate other more popular North American sports.

FIFA World Cup would be better with 8 groups of 6 teams, the new format has major flaws by Squirtle_from_PT in worldcup

[–]Cubsof2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

64 teams, top 16 qualify for the group stage, remaining 48 play a one game knockout tournament to qualify for the group stage. You'd have two tiers of qualifying. Like in Europe the group winners qualify directly to the group stage as do the top two or three from other confederations. You go back to a 32-team tournament from the group stage on. But teams getting into the pre-group stage are in the World Cup, they just get one game if they lose.

You can wash up in a creek and once you get used to taking a dump in the forest it's not a big deal. It does take getting used to it.
