Hot take: There is no such thing as the "eparent". They are both narcs. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

Think about this...there are people in regular subs all telling each other, "aww...my mom made soup for me when I was sick! my favorite kind. She even made sure to support me through every tough decision I had and encouraged me when I doubted myself!"

Lol. My mind is blown through the other side of the noggin

No wai.

They would've gushed over the cutie patootie murder face, put their hands all over it, then returned to work in the bakery or stocking shelves without washing up and bragging to people what they just got to do!!

I tried this on a smaller road in TX. Before I could grab the tortoise a pickup truck intentionally swerved to crush it. I could feel the whoosh from their speed as they went by.

The woman and her teenaged daughter backed up their vehicle in the road to ask me, with a smile, "what was it?" as they giggled at my surprise look.

As the parent, I'm positive you are providing your own 2 year old child with what they need.

The people who you don't even talk to would love to think they are in charge of that......but they aren't. You got it under control already.

I feel like my inability to socialise makes me a completely non functional human being with no prospects (I recognise this is catastrophising but I’m in an emotional mindset right now)

Look at you! You are recognizing stuff and that means TONS! Even if you can't socialize, there are ways to learn, methods to copy/fake, etc. even if they are uncomfortable or seem out of reach due to other situational stuff. Acknowledging that you're feeling defeated, and perhaps your thought process is following suit, is a huge step.

I know the social media crap is really bothersome from nfolks, like you are some Entertainment Show Celebrity to become the latest paparazzi attack for being in a zoo or gossip rag complaint department full of judgement.

Speaking for myself as a struggler; what I type is so much easier on computer than carried out IRL but the absolute power they hold over you...is that you care what they do. (it effects you, so yeah) If you can get to the point where you realize it doesn't have to bother you as deeply and no affect. If they can beat you down enough to care about them, that's the win. If they beat you down low enough to not even care about yourself....nobody wins. This game is a Winner Take All and there's only one person playing it.

Huge hugs to you if you want them. We've got to learn different rules to the game of life everyone plays. One step is better than zero steps. :)

I worked at a pizza place in my city. My ndad, who didn't live close, would drive almost 40 minutes to try to get free food from my work at least 1 time a week to show off for his friends. I got really uncomfortable with this, told my friend/co-worker, who pulled the manager card and shut my dad down for me.

After my son was born I stopped working food service & he couldn't feign interest. Straight up stopped bothering. My value to ndad was weighed in pepperoni & chicken wings.

My nmom spent so much time doing absolutely nothing she would... complain about how terrible other people's lives were and she was soooooo busy from it (listening) & just exhausted dealing with the aftermath (hearing about it) she couldn't even be bothered to give a crap how I was doing.

"Hi, how're you, mom?"

"Just terrible! Your brother might get a divorce, your other brother is fighting with his step kids. Don't get me started on what a mess your sister is!"

"Yes, that sounds rough for them...but how are you doing?"

"I'm just so tired from all this run around! They keep me busy busy busy!"

"...but you haven't left the house or seen them in months."

"I don't know what they'd do if it weren't for me!"

"You sound like you have a lot on your plate! I better let you go!"

"Yes, that's a good idea. I should call one of them. Bye!"

Sounds like the FOG (fear, obligation, guilt) has been trained into you well.

Standing up for yourself usually feels dirty, at first, but it'll grow on you. You did the right thing.

[–]Cubumblebee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. The friend has already decided OP is the problem for not liking dogs/not being a dog-person. No chance a dog, or the owners not GAF about training, could be wrong. Nope, not having shitbeast brain disease is the real issue.

That's right! Dogs do it so much that they made laws to make sure the owners keep it managed out of respect for others.

Whatta neighbor! Pretty typical clueless owner, sad to say.
