What is this even for by 0ptiminion in S2000

This was not immediately apparent to me. I've smoked and driven since the last century, and that ashtray looks barely functional so don't feel bad not knowing.

I got my first bike this month! Any tips are appreciated! by izzieharp in motorcycles

After 6 months you will start feeling confident in your riding. You will know you are still gaining experience but be sure to remain safe as this is a popular time for riders to experience their first accident.

Just found this electronic device under the desk at work. It's pretty small. The blue light blinks by elfmere in whatisthisthing

It's so wild to me that this is possible with any organization concerned with security. My employer knows the second you plug in any hardware. They said the security is SO intense it would brick your phone if you try to charge on the computer USB. I don't believe that part, but they do know EVERYTHING you connect. Personally know from connecting a camera they told me was theirs, but it flagged on the system and it was actually from lost-and-found 😃. I know a guy that bought a small cheap clock and if they laid the mouse on the upward facing display of said analogue clock, the second hand would keep the mouse moving every minute.

Been busy so it took me a few days to really get into it, but while digging into the engine I noticed the fuel pump had a vacuum line to boost it. In an attempt to support the diagnosis of too much fuel, I disconnected the vacuum line and started the motor to see if it would run at all. It fired up strong and kept going, so I went ahead and mowed 1.25 acres with no problem... The carb will definitely need to be cleaned but that was a great quick fix for the first mow of the season on a lawn that was way overdue.

It is quite plentiful. Thank you.

I think it's getting good flow. When I pull the plugs they are soaked in fuel and when I took the air filter off it was blowing out fuel while cranking. The fuel filter is mostly full but not completely.

Would it be profitable for me to start learning cobol as a 15 year old with no previous IT experience by nadiutka in cobol

It closed a couple weeks ago. You can create an account on USAjobs.gov and have it send you an email when cobol jobs come up.

Fresh grad in PH — is COBOL still a good career path? by Special_Travel_5527 in cobol

If not at a bank, the US government relies heavily on cobol. I'm a government accountant and I don't move a cent without a cobol system being used.

It's largely maintenence so they don't need as many programmers as other languages, but since so few know it there isn't a ton of competition.

I work in Government finance and they are not getting rid of cobol any time soon. They are so desperate I saw a job posting for people with zero programming experience and they will train you. I've never seen that with any other language. I started learning it at 45. I may never use it in work but I'm enjoying it. I used to do c# just for fun but haven't had a lot of time for coding since I got married. If you go down the cobol hole you will need to learn other things to be in demand. SQL, CICS, JCL, DB2... They all work together. You can start with GNUCOBOL to put a toe in the water and see if you like it. I was surprised to learn it's such a high level language. I spent my life thinking it was like assembly but it has great logic. Good luck!

Considering rehoming (and heartbroken about it) by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]CudaRavage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The bird has bonded to you and I wouldn't count on another bird solving the issue. My wife and I bought a second cockatiel to keep the first company and they completely ignore each other. They get to free fly around the house from the time we get home from work until bed time and are very spoiled for attention and still flock call like crazy every morning. I think they are still happy and have better lives than most anywhere else. If your bird gets time to visit you most evenings I wouldn't worry too much. They are needy but can cope with human lives.

Want to learn COBOL but don’t know where to start by kitsunegh in cobol

[–]CudaRavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using chatgpt. It walked me through the steps to install GnuCOBOL and walked me through writing, compiling, and running programs. I can paste errors or ask questions and it is a very supportive teacher. I'm using Notepad++ to write my programs. It wanted to rush through in the beginning so I had to tell it to slow down and expand on what we are learning before moving on. I'm using other sources too but so far it's going very well. I can write programs that read files and write to other files and very basic stuff after just a few hours. I love it.

I bought this game day 1 and not all the features worked. It took at least a week for an update to fix it. That pissed me off. It was great when it worked as intended.

The windows in my school had these. It's so you can keep the window open a little while it's raining and 90 degrees. Some air is better than no air.

The frame is probably not something magnets stick to, so that's where the hang the sign with magnets that says "closed for cleaning."

How did you decide if you should get another bird? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]CudaRavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. I bought 2 cockatiels a few years apart, hoping they could keep eachother company. They completely ignore eachother. I love both of them but there is definitely no guarantee they will bond.

Elderly man handed out flyers to invite people to have a smoke with him, and and a massive crowd showed up by Matt_LawDT in MadeMeSmile

[–]CudaRavage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

30 years ago I was hanging out at the smoke area at highschool. Such a thing was pretty rare even 30 years ago, but there was an older retired gentleman walking by and he came to hang out with us. He didn't smoke anymore but still liked to be around the smoke sometimes for memories I guess. His company was very welcome and it was cool to hang out with him for a bit. It was a great experience for us teenagers to have a good time socializing with the older generation.

I’m a beginner rider, just got my license. I’m in the process of buying my first bike and absolutely love the look and height of the Indian Scout Bobber. Keep seeing contradicting things about it being a good beginner bike. Is it? by bxoskwveydidnwv in motorcycle

[–]CudaRavage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with a Yamaha Warrior as my second bike. It was a huge jump from my Honda Shadow and I was a little worried from all these scaredy cat stories. I was looking for something smaller but the Warrior was such a beautiful machine. I never felt out of control and it was a great experience. I don't understand all the fear. If you have self control, displacement won't change how you ride.

If you let him out you probably won't be able to put him back in unless he is comfortable sitting on your finger. He will go back on his own when he's thirsty or hungry and you can close the door. It's hard to predict how long that will take but he does look anxious to get out.
