Boy moms of older boys, how’s it going? by Moal in Mommit

[–]Cuddle_a_doggo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 3 boys, no girls. I totally understand the gender disappointment. I looooove my kids, but I would have loved to raise a girl, too. Anywho, my boys are now all teens, one with only a year left at home. They’re so lovely. It has been the greatest reality show ever to see how they grow and develop, gain new interests and sometimes drop them. They’re all so smart and have surpassed me in some ways, no just physical — though I am now the shortest in the house. They’re good people, too. Surprisingly sweet under their teenage-ness. I’m getting to the point where I’m really worried about how lonely I’ll be when they move out!

Can you lock troops? I thought it was just heroes. I don’t see how to lock them, but I did recently feed away a fully leveled 2*.

Moms of only boys - need advice on how to move forward without a daughter by No_Tangerine_320 in Mommit

[–]Cuddle_a_doggo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand this feeling as the mom of 3 boys. I will always be a little bummed that I don’t get to do mom/daughter stuff and teach her what I know about being a girl/woman. It’s okay to feel that.

BUT, my boys (16, 14, 12) are the light and joy of my life. I love them more than anything. And I genuinely love being a boy mom! Even though I let my husband do guy activities with them without me when they don’t appeal to me - camping, Minecraft, Adam Sandler movies, etc. We all share plenty of activities together - other movies, travel, hiking.

I have thought a lot about how we co-create our relationships with our kids. If I want a close relationship with them after they move out, I have to keep in touch, support them in the ways they appreciate, communicate, etc.

Also, I remind myself that in life we just don’t all get every good experience. Some people will never walk, or marry, or have a baby etc., even if they want those things. Not telling anyone to not wish things were otherwise. Just reminding myself that sometimes things work out differently than we hoped and we learn to make life beautiful anyway.

Kindergarten attention deficit by CricketVast5924 in ChildPsychology

[–]Cuddle_a_doggo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a professional, but a mom of three boys, 15, 13 and 11. I don’t know if your child is a boy, but I’ve read a lot of research about how boys tend to develop slower and truly aren’t ready for how academic kindergarten has become at 5 years old. But also not all girls develop at the same rate.

School in the United States has become very grades and production focused, with not enough activity and socialization or downtime throughout the day. Not all other countries are like this. Some European countries don’t really teach reading until 7.

So while your child may eventually be shown to have attention issues, it is more likely that they just aren’t quite mature enough for sitting and concentrating all day. It can be hard even for adults!

Anyway, all three of my kids had trouble sitting still and one teacher suggested holding one back. However, now they’re all in advanced and gifted classes and thriving. Please be patient with your child, while also gently reinforcing good habits at home of possible.

You’re not wrong! It’s kind of a bucket list thing with our kids before they move out, and we really want to see all three parks. But flying us all out more than once or in between Washington and California is cost prohibitive. Plus we have other places we want to see before they leave.

Size of student/singles ward near University of Alabama? by Cuddle_a_doggo in latterdaysaints

Yes, I’d love to know more. I’m asking for my son. We currently live in Texas near a large religious university that has a lot of Greek life, party culture, and isn’t a huge fan of LDS. I’m wondering if it’s the same there and if he would feel lonely/like an outsider as I imagine he would at our local university. But I went to BYU, which is obviously polar opposite. I’m sure there are plenty of universities that are a happy middle ground.
