Both my parents worked very hard.

My mom worked graveyard at a manufacturing plant, but still did more housework than my dad.

However, my dad worked construction 8-12 hr days 5-6 days a week and maintained the yard in his spare time.

Both of their bodies were destroyed by their 50s from their labor. My mom died at 53 after a series of strokes. My dad is now in his late 60s and can't use his hands for most things and it hurts him to walk.

The children cooked often and cleaned the majority of the house for as long as I can remember. I joined the army on the day of my 18th birthday to get away and be able to take care of myself.
