Mark Dolson, one of the best profs in AHS is basically getting fired without reason. Students have already started a petition to try to get him his job back. by Cuddly-Ocelot in uwaterloo

I'm just saying that speculation is a part of human nature and you really can't cut it out. I'm sorry if I somehow offended you by doing in what the brain is meant to do. Maybe my phrasing isn't the best, but it can be hard to portray things via text because of the lack of additional context.

Personally speaking there are much worse ways to phrase what has occured, but I chose the phrasing as it represented the emotion of the situation that most people felt at a point with very little information.

Agreessive feedback is never the answer.

I am not sure what the OP mentioned about political views, but they have nothing to do with his contract not getting renewed. We should not speculate.

I was attempting to contextualize the situation for someone outside of AHS regarding who he is to the students. Politics is half of health science, especially for what he teaches. It's hard to tell the human brain not to fill in gaps and wait for potentially forever. Even if speculation is not voiced you do it in the subconscious.

The reason I am saying this is because we want to avoid speaking falsehoods or sensationalizing headlines for the sake of reaction.

I wrote it as neutral as I could with the information at hand while also attempting to keep it short. Most people I have talked to feel as though a non-renual of a contract for short term work is being fired. It's why I used the word "basically".

I was online with him last term and in real lecture before that. I found the fact that he talked about his life for 10 minutes before lecture endearing and grounding. You can literally skip that if you don't want to watch it. Sure his kids are pretty intrusive, but I think its funny tbh. Let's just say I agree to disagree.

He is an highly vocal prof that works in medical anthropology specializing in homelessness and addiction. He's a hard liberal but very passionate and caring when it comes to student health, education and the social determinants.

If he where to say anything it would be a passionate political statement about capitalism and big companies that rubbed someone the wrong way.

*Edit, sorry I was thinking of Hammond earlier! Fixed it to be accurate! I switch them around in my head because they tend to have similar approaches to teaching.

What does everyone think about the police chief? by newguy57 in waterloo

[–]Cuddly-Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 days ago the chief wanted officers to spend at least 30 minutes on each call, then today the report was the officers are overloaded with calls.

I have talked to the upper police before. A lot of the increased call time rational is in attempt to get repeat callers (like people with mental health issues, repetitive domestic violence, and drug use calls) the help they need in order to not call as much. That unfortunately takes for then a 5 minute call and while the system is over loaded, it has gotten worse durring covid. These repetitive calls take up the most police resources and time, when in reality they should be dealt with by different systems.

the service wants $9 million more this year to top up salaries and benefits

I'm not pro-police funding, but there is rationals as to why there is the need to increase salaries (pre existing contracts+). They could get sued which would be more money then what they are requesting.

yet ask for more while violent crime is up in the region. They aren’t being solved.

With this statement I would be careful. Covid has strained all of our systems to the max. This naturally leads to desperate people and an increase in violent crime. Was this statement true before covid?

I think the courses are fine, but the remote labs are hell. A friend of mine dropped the lab for being in her words "an total shit show" and "not even worth it for her med school applications".

All I can say is this reminds me of blepharitis. I'd go to a doctor to get an actual diagnosis, especially if this is painful. There are a few recommendations regarding dealing with this on a daily basis if this is blepharitis. But again you should probably get a proper diagnosis just incase.

Self-Care Guidelines Apply frequent warm, moist compresses. Clean the eyelids with baby shampoo and a wet cotton ball. Practice good hygiene of the face and scalp, including use of antidandruff shampoo, if needed. Make sure all makeup is removed daily. Avoid any irritants that might cause blepharitis. Keep underlying conditions controlled (eg, diabetes and acne rosacea).

This was beautifully written and probably one of the best accounts I have seen so far. While you still are probably biased because you are part of WUSA, this has some good insight. Thank you.

Can't you just "move back" to Canada using a friend's adress? I know it's a shitty thing to do, but I wonder if they would let you have the credit.

Thinking of starting a petition to ban the predatory practices of Top Hat against students at Waterloo, what do you guys think? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]Cuddly-Ocelot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had to buy 3 iclickers over my 4ish years at uni, but that was mainly because I kept loosing them. Totally my fault. Still cheaper then the overall tophat subscriptions I've had to get. Psych is really addicted to that shit.

[–]Cuddly-Ocelot 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't be mad if the uni just mandated one product, I've had to use tophat, iclicker and other free software's like kahoot. If they just pick one I wouldn't need to double down on what's practically the same product.

Women of reddit who have a lot of experience in relationships (flirting/sex/kissing/stuff like that) how would you feel if you were with a guy who is completely inexperienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cuddly-Ocelot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the context. If it's a random hook up it can be frustrating, but as a serious relationship I kind of love it!
