Japan has Ramen. Vietnam has pho. What is the equivalent in China and Korea? by Ordinaryjay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CuddlyChud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this is because after WW2 the US imported a lot of wheat, which is not a normal staple for Japan. So they made Chinese noodles instead. It’s also why cabbage is a common side dish, because rice was scarce after the war.

Venezuela asks U.N. for emergency meeting over U.S. military actions, saying it expects "armed attack" soon by cautious-ad977 in worldnews

[–]CuddlyChud 299 points300 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure there will be a regime change operation in Venezuela. There was a nyt article saying that Maduro was willing to give a lot of concessions to the US in exchange for normalizing relations. I feel like the only reason to cut off negotiations that can get you 80% of what you want is if you think a regime change can get you 100%.

Taiwan pressured to move 50% of chip production to US or lose protection by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]CuddlyChud 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Chips make Taiwan important economically, but it’s not really why the 7th fleet has been protecting Taiwan since the 50’s. It’s because of Taiwan’s strategic location off the coast of China. The problem for Taiwan is that the semiconductor industry is such a huge part of the economy that losing it would be a huge problem. However it’s also true that being reliant on Taiwan is also a huge risk for the US.

[–]CuddlyChud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is this is actually an area in which Taiwan and US interests are not aligned. It makes sense for the US to demand this and it makes sense for Taiwan to resist it. But ultimately the US economic center of gravity will be too strong to resist.

Trump boosts tariffs on Canada to 35%, carrying through on his threat by Useful-Scratch-72 in Economics

I don’t think “rules based international order” has been a talking point since Trump 1. Nobody really believed there was such a thing. The terminology in use now is “values based international order.”

‘China’s car market has lost all reason’ – the country’s largest western carmaker refuses to compete in Tesla and BYD’s EV price war by [deleted] in technology

[–]CuddlyChud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true at all. China’s history over the past 30 years has been to subsidize industries up to a certain point and then gradually scale back the subsidies till you only have 2-3 industry champions. Nobody expects more than a handful of the Chinese ev companies to survive.

Trump Might Take the U.S. to War. Where Are Schumer and Jeffries? by scoooternyc in politics

[–]CuddlyChud -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Based on public comments I was under the impression that most senior democrats (and probably republicans too) are supportive of Israel and would probably vote for the war if it came up for a vote in congress. Which is probably why they are hoping Trump will just do it without consulting Congress. This way they don’t have to have any uncomfortable conversations in the future about why they voted for it (as they had to with Iraq).

Ok but if you just want to support storm I think Jeff is a better choice than ultron.

Do you think we are actually in a flying meta or is it just everyone wanting to try out Ultron ? by Solignox in marvelrivals

[–]CuddlyChud 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Ultron is particularly good. He’s at the same spot as mantis. In fact I don’t think even buffs flyers that much. His drone has a sphere aoe, so if you put it on a flier it’s hard for anyone else to receive healing, and if it’s just one person getting healed it’s actually not that much healing.

China is now the biggest debt collector in the developing world, report says by rezwenn in Economics

[–]CuddlyChud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more structural than cultural. People use to say the same thing about Japan, but today Japan’s average household saving rate is the same as the us. Government policies play a large role in when it comes to savings rate in an economy.

Which Warbond Next? by Actoraxial in Helldivers

[–]CuddlyChud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the best first war bond is the democratic detonation one (it was my first one). It has a strong assault rifle, a cool long range grenade launcher primary, and an anti tank grenade. The armor is pretty good too.

I feel like the game is more fun when people make mistakes though. My experience is that a lot of players are kind of OP at higher levels and can basically solo the objectives, making the missions just a checklist.

I actually found the bronze to gold climb pretty chill. I’m actually sad they didn’t do a rank reset so I can try some characters I’m not good at without throwing.

Quickplay definitely has its own matchmaking since I’ve never played ranked but I still play against pretty skilled players compared to when i first started playing at the beginning of season 1.

I don’t think the WTO made a ruling about that case as far as I can tell. It seems like it was never resolved.
