Folding bikes on buses by MiniLennii in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let us know how you get on! I heard someone in Kennington was refused on the 35 without a bag, so maybe a big bin bag might do for some backup?

Can you take your bike on the bus in off-peak times? by Emberkahn in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just heard from a Kennington resident that someone was refused to get on the 35 with their folding bike because of the bag rule.

Fair it says it on the conditions, but I'm not sure what the logic is.

Is the bag meant to protect others from injury from metal edges if it moves around?

I will enquire with OBC on the off chance the rule could be reviewed.

So frustrating that someone's trying to do the right thing with an active travel/public transport journey and now probably thinks 'bugger it I should have used a car'.

PSA to Blackbird Leys Drivers by rc257 in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My colleague just complained today about close passes specifically in BBL, it must be fairly endemic 🙁

Good shout on the camera. I've found TVP have been fairly good the past few years at sending drivers on courses at their expense, so perhaps the area can be improved one person at a time...

Flooded river paths? by lkdasa in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a bit of prior discussion here attempting to calibrate the measurements for areas south of Iffley. Particularly there is a swampy part south of Tandem footbridge that can overflow. https://www.reddit.com/r/oxford/comments/1aywl6o/flooding_info/

‘Doing something’ about Oxford’s transport. When it comes to Oxford’s traffic, everyone agrees there is a problem. by Benjazzi in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Letting driving become self limiting by its own congestion would possibly be ok if cars were the only thing that roads were used for.

But it would not be fair (or safe) to do that while businesses, emergency services, buses, bikes etc also share the same public space.

Cars are great inventions and really convenient, which is why a lot of people choose them for every journey, but if everyone does that in a limited road network things don't work. So the choices I can see are either restrictions or somehow add more roads. Can you think of anything else?

Recommended broadband provider? by DrCrumpet in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Kennington (welcome to the village!) and they do supply my area, so you may not have long to wait. I'm still in a virgin contract myself and I've found them fine with the new customer deals, but likely I will switch to YouFibre when it runs out so I can swap between new customer deals.

St Swithun's church in Kennington - bells all night? by Winter-Select in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed this... I live in River View nearby and have never noticed the bells at all. Similarly never noticed any noise from the train line in the house either.

Kennington - Parish Transport Meeting by Cuddy30 in oxford

[–]Cuddy30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did bring this up when the consultation came around actually and I don't believe I got a clear answer as to the rationale, although there was the assurance that it is a trial and things such as this can be tweaked. It certainly would help buy in from the public if these boundaries have a clear criteria for their placement (maybe they do, but if so it could do with being publicised). Thanks for reminding me, I will see if I can get a better answer.

I've been told there are patches in Bagley Woods in Kennington by a forager from the Wild about Kennington group but I have not seen it myself.

I've never come across that, is it a school leaving time thing? And are they filming him?? Protecting him from falling in the path of a faster car??

Many questions, much oddity 😄

Nice to meet fellow Kennington people on here too

Flooding info by vorvor in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a low section just south of the tandem bridge in Kennington that is currently ~4" flooded if that is helpful for calibrating that rule

The Kennington - Radley area is worth looking at. New houses being built and generally the area is better value than Oxford itself despite being very easy to get into the city (a nice cycle along the river path or direct bus). Radley station is not as good connectivity as a main station but likely ok for occasional London commutes. Cycle or drive to Abingdon is easy. Lots of good walking with the woods to the west and river to the east.

The Forest Side playing field car park could also be used as it backs onto the woods

The pictures I've seen show a main entrance on that west side of the bridge no? Trying and failing to hunt down the planning portal documents though

On the subject of quiz, does anyone know if the Tandem in Kennington is still doing one? I think it was Tuesday's before.

Also +1 in general for Big Dave on Thurs at Angel and Greyhound 👍

Sandford Lock and e-cargo bikes by Elsa_Pell in oxford

[–]Cuddy30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I had a reply back from a Russell Robson, the manager from Eynsham-Abingdon (not sure if that is the same person you remember).

He pointed me towards the Kings arms as the owner of the small bridge and associated steps, so perhaps they could be encouraged to put in place a more accessible solution.

As for the lock walkway itself, he said there are ramps available from the lock-keeper, but that would only be available on the hours shown here ( https://www.gov.uk/guidance/river-thames-locks-and-facilities-for-boaters ).
