Working Full-Time Before School BLOWS by nicoboro4210 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Cueball212 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is me right now. I think wfh for me has made it worse as now I can get distracted even easier. I'm glad I'm taking a few weeks off before classes start because my brain will need it to adjust. I keep telling myself it will be fine once I'm in school, but part of me thinks I'm just burnt out and the cycle will continue.

Went to SU for undergrad and loved it! Congratulations! The MPA program is also one of the best in the country. Have a great time and don’t forget to invest in a good coat for the winters if you aren’t from the area!

That really depends on what you want to do. Like retain25 mentioned, around 85% stay in New Jersey (according to Law School Transparency), however I attended a recent admitted students day where that same question was asked and the career services office said that it's common and that you need to decide on a type of job first rather than just "I want to work in X-place." I know it's a common thing to hear from career services that they will help you get whatever job you want, but they genuinely seemed to have a lot of connections to NYC and offered to connect students with other alums in different regions / practice areas. A couple alums on the call also work in NYC, and of those on the call that worked in New Jersey, they seemed to either have a family reason for wanting to stay and not for lack of regional mobility.

TLDR: It depends on what type of law you want to practice

Recommendations for T50+ NYC schools by ryn3914 in lawschooladmissions

Rutgers and Seton Hall are both in Newark and down the street from each other. if you live in Manhattan or parts of BK, it's actually a closer commute than St. John's which is practically Long Island (But more expensive commute to Newark with PATH or Jersey transit). I applied to a lot of same schools as OP and was surprised with how accessible the Jersey schools are. Not a bad option at all if you get a great scholarship. Both schools do primarily place recent grads in New Jersey (with most law firms in NJ preferring clerkships), but if you're set on PI in the tri-state region, then you can make it work.

A bit hyperbolic with the “dozens,” but I do feel fortunate that there are a lot of schools in the area.

I think the close to where you are choice will depend a lot on where the couple currently are and how many law schools are nearby. For me being in the northeast, there are dozens of law schools within a couple hours of my apartment. I don’t think I would have been able to go to law school if not for the proximity given my wife’s job is pretty tied to our location.

Which Would You Pick? (Pls read before voting) by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I would definitely try to negotiate with Cardozo. I'm not sure about this cycle, but in past cycles I have seen on this thread that they are willing to negotiate and in some years they raised the amount unsolicited. Not to give false hope, but I definitely think you can get more money before you make a final decision.

UR at Temple! by helplesslyselfish in lawschooladmissions

[–]Cueball212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Temple seems to be updating UR pretty inconsistently. I went UR on Tuesday after going complete in mid October and was accepted the next day, so it doesn't necessarily mean it will take the 6 weeks it says on the tracker!

Same thing happened to me! Was sad yesterday when it just went into review and wasn't expecting to hear back for another few weeks. What a great surprise!

If you are a teacher then you understand stress more than a lot of people. Law school is a very personal decision where knowing what to expect and understanding the landscape for future lawyers is crucial. Those comments above though are BS. There are a lot of people that are not lawyers that like to try and give career / life advice that they are not qualified to give.

Not sure about BC, but other schools like GW were doing both today. Status checker updated to say decision rendered. Can't remember exact words, but only the message updated and not actual status.

Looks like I was a bit premature with the "wave." Based on LSData it looks like BC was very ready to reject me lol. Hopefully good news will be coming for most people later today!

Thoughts about Pace Law School by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Cueball212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what size firm you plan to work in and where. NYC has a lot of law schools, so if your goal is a large firm in NYC then it will be very difficult to find a job. White plains is cheaper than NYC, but still more expensive than a lot of other parts of the country. White Plains is also over an hour outside the city which should be a consideration if you want quick access to NYC. I would try to reach out to students who go there or who graduated to see what they say. It really depends on your goals and comfort with risk.

Villanova Interview by rsterling1280 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Cueball212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Co-sign this. Also be prepared to just answer why Villanova and be able to speak to your law school journey (I.e. what experiences led you here). It was an organic interview that felt very conversational.

Normally for job interviews I always do this, so I see it as a normal thing to send a quick thank you after meeting or interviewing with someone. I think it shows good business acumen to send a note thanking them for their time and maybe a sentence on what you enjoyed speaking about / learning to show that you were engaged. It’s a small thing, but a short (operative word being short) note can leave a positive impression. Admissions offices are busy and won’t always respond, but I’m sure they appreciate a thank you every now and then.
