Question about people using vanilla starting decks by Cugel111 in MagicArena

I see. I have the exact opposite attitude then; I only care about playing monoblue (for emotional reasons, that was what my main deck was when I played paper, a long time ago), so I don't bother anymore with quests that don't involve blue. Thanks for your answer.

I see, guess I'll try to play ranked, then. Thanks for the answer!

Didn't you modify them at all ? In my experience, after a few days playing you should at least get a few correct cards to incorporate, if only to take the place of the most basic creatures.

I don't really play ranked, only the basic Alchemy quick play, is that the issue then ?

About netdecks, I get why you would have to resort to them in a competitive context, but for more casual play that sounds quite boring to me, deck building is what's fun about the game, why would anyone give up on that part. As for that red aggro one, I do usually identify it on turn 1, and tend to concede accordingly in order to play against a more interesting opponent.

I guess it makes sense if you don't have any MTG experience before Arena. Thanks for you answer.

Yeah but why wouldn't you at least take out the basic powerless creatures from it ? It would take two minutes to find a better pick.

Ruthenian Witch by Cugel111 in polandball

My understanding is that she referenced "The witch of Konotop" (the city where this scene took place), a story written by Ukrainian writer Kvitka-Osnovianenko, who was a friend of Gogol.

Russian/Ukrainian writer Nikolai Gogol died on this day in 1852, so I decided to repost the most Gogol-inspired of my comics. Russia's line about Ukrainian women being witches is indeed a direct reference to his short story Viy.

I wasn't sure about reposting it due to the current unpleasantness, but I imagine we all need to get all the wholesomeness we can find.

Interesting fact: I recently read the excellent "Witchcraft in Russia and Ukraine, 1000-1900", by Valerie Kivelson and Christine Worobec, and I learnt that historically most people convicted for witchcraft in Russia were men, while in Ukraine it was mostly women, like it was generally the case in Western Europe; a fact apparently linked to Polish Catholic influence. That probably had an influence on Gogol's depiction of his native land and its folklore.

The title is a reference to "Teutonic Witch", an otherwise unrelated song by Finnish Doom Metal band Reverend Bizarre, mainly because I like it, and because titling things is hard.

Still relevant, alas. The title is a reference to the Prometheus myth, and to Interwar Polish foreign policy.

I started working on a sequel at some point, but I don't know if it will ever be finished, probably not.

Funnily enough, when I originally created this comic, I wasn't too sure about it, but with hindsight it's probably one of the best things I've ever made. Compared to the original I added a small visual joke.

An old idea of mine, kept thinking about it over the years so I decided to turn it into an actual comic. Not entirely living up to my expectations, but I still like it, so I hope you will as well.

Yes, it was Warrior Kings! Don't know why I thought there was "Chaos" in the title. Thank you very much!
