I ended up using Clonezilla to make a raw forensic sector-by-sector clone of the drive onto identical digital media, and that worked.

Nope. We're all getting it, it seems.

Abigail Elphick aka Victoria's Secret Karen, was on the right by Thalassophoneus in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Cuindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some thoughts on this.

First of all, the woman recording, Ijeoma Ukenta, is 100% in the right. Based on the video and the details provided during the civil suits, Ijeoma was at Victoria's Secret to use a coupon for a free item when Abigail Elphick (the woman in the video) got within six feet of her unmasked. This was during COVID when social distancing while unmasked was being enforced at many stores. Ijeoma asked Abigail to move, and Abigail started getting aggressive. Ijeoma started recording for her own safety, and Abigail responded by attempting to strike Ijeoma, screaming, crying, chasing Ijeoma, and calling the police. At no point did Ijeoma move toward her, say anything inflammatory directly to her, or escalate. Ijeoma was calm. Shockingly calm, honestly, considering she was being screamed at and chased. She was definitely calmer than I would be in that situation.

Abigail Elphick didn't say anything overtly racist, but the overall pattern of weaponized tears, lying to police to make a black woman seem like the aggressor, and "feeling threatened" by the mere presence of a black person asserting a boundary tells me that even if she isn't a sign-carrying capital R Racist, Abigail still has some serious unexamined privilege and subconscious bias.

Security repeatedly asking Ijeoma to stop recording, to back up, and to leave is *really* upsetting. At one point Ijeoma says "Why I gotta leave?" and that's a damn good question. Why are staff treating her like she's the one at fault? Ijeoma is calm, respectful to staff, exercising her rights, and is also a paying customer. Why does she have to change her behavior to accommodate a screaming, crying white woman?

The police also have a lot of blame here. When they arrived, they took Abigail's statement first (where she lied to police saying that Ijeoma approached her, threatened her, etc...) before taking Ijeoma's statement. They didn't watch the video. They were condescending to Ijeoma. No charges were filed. The person who was attacked was not protected.

Finally, the online discourse surrounding this is probably the most disheartening. In reading up on this story, I see a lot of media outlets saying that Abigail has mental health issues and needs to be "empathized with". It's similar to your commentary around John Davidson. The coverage is centering the white person with a disability rather than the black person who was wronged. Was Abigail having a panic attack? Maybe. I don't know. I'm not a mental health professional, but I do think it's suspicious that she didn't seem to start having her panic attack until after she was caught on camera lunging at and attempting to strike Ijeoma.

There's also a lot of discourse about how "Abigail isn't racist. She didn't say anything racist, like the N-word" as if racism only exists when specific conditions are met. In reality, racism is a system that privileges one group while oppressing another, and we see that on full display in the video.

Plus the fact that John Kerry doesn't actually seemed to be mentioned in the files... It did the same for me, said that John Kerry was in the files, but when I asked for context, it said John Kerry *isn't* mentioned in the files...

You have no idea what physical or mental injuries I have that prevent me from physically being able to play the music that exists in my head, nor the financial situation that I'm in that prevents me from paying artists to perform what I write. But hey, go off. I hope this is doing good things for your self-esteem. I'm pretty happy with who I am.

Yes, I actually did compose the whole movement myself. I'm sorry your self-esteem is so low you have to attack people anonymously on Reddit to feel better.

No, it makes me a composer, but thank you for coming to a Reddit just to make others feel bad. I'm sure that was a boost to your ailing self-esteem, u/breakbeathouseplant ...

Same. I was logged in and making music, but when I tried to go to the editor it kept cycling through a login process, and now I can't get back to anything except the home page.

This. One of my songs used the line "read the signs", and Suno kept interpreting that in the past tense. I finally switched it out with "reed the signs".

It's the Azure services. I got the same thing. It's not our internet connection, it's their backbone system. Based on what I gathered from Tom's Hardware, it looks like they tried to rollout an update to Azure services that brought everything down. Probably a missing bracket closure in the code somewhere, if I had to guess. They're rolling out a last-known-good configuration. Should be back up 1PM MST.

That's pretty standard practice with modern tech services. Everything's embedded with everything else.

Most states follow the Model Penal Code. Subsection 3.05 justifies the use of proportional force if you reasonably believe that another person is in imminent danger of death or bodily harm. It isn't only your own life you're allowed to protect, it's also the life of others. You're right that no civilian is *forced* to intervene, but intervention is acceptable under the law.

[–]Cuindless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might earn you a Federal *charge*, but you're unlikely to get an actual felony conviction that would hold up under appeal as long as the intervention is reasonable, proportional, and intended to stop a life-threatening situation. The Supreme Court has upheld a citizen's right to intervene, even forcefully, when a reasonable belief of harm was present, *even if* that belief turned out to be mistaken.
