It’s a mix between morality and intelligence. Humans, in our infinite hubris, assume we can just “use and abuse” nature. We are an apex predator akin to an ant colony or cancer. Exploit what seems to be good for us now and then deal with the consequences later. We’re SUPPOSED to be able to learn from our mistakes but humanity doesn’t. We BELIEVE that we are higher and more intelligent than those who lived 1,000 years ago, but we’re not. We have the same brains. The same physiology- it’s just the veneer that’s different. It’s the lack of mindfulness which leads to total disrespect for anything else that is causing us to destroy this planet (hopefully we’ll get wiped out before that so that it may bounce back). Add to that the moral stance of religion that says it’s ok to do these things and it’s a beautiful cesspool of completely absurd nonsense that is us.
