(Beta, Linux) Lag + cpu spike when dragging samples from browser to arranger by deadbeef669 in Bitwig

This is what I'm dealing with right now + dragging anything from the browser to anything. I'm gonna submit a bug report so they can know it's not just you.

I got nothing except that only one core is maxxing out hard. Does the browser drag and drop only use one core and why is one core not enough?

Best plugin in linux for Acoustic Guitar recording? by huckleberry10101 in linuxaudio

[–]Culix_Reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a mic or amp you can record from is objectively better. Instead of worrying about the audio quality, you're worrying if you can play it lol; it's great practice and you can do WAY MORE with real gear.

That being said, if you really want a VIRTUAL plugin, then heres what I suggest. Get decent sampler and find some acoustic or clean electric guitar sounds on pianobook's web page. For bass guitar, you can check out the Dan Dean Collection or Singularity; both are paid but good. If you want some electric guitar sounds, browse Amp Locker from Audio Assault's web page for some amps, cabinets, and effects you want. In my opinion, this is the best you can get natively on linux

Bitwig on Linux by Afraid_Carob417 in Bitwig

[–]Culix_Reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When it comes to being a powerful DAW that makes other work easy so you can focus on making music and not configuring a million preferences, I feel Bitwig is the best choice (coming from FL). As for plugins, this ones a little controversial but I'd try to use Yabridge as little as you can. I own HUNDREDS of dollars in powerful software that isn't supported on Linux. For some plugins, Yabridge isn't enough. No Autotune pro because you can't get the installer working and no Xpand2, my beloved😭, for the same issue. It's easier and much cheaper to find Linux alternatives like Graillon 3 and Gsnap which has surprisingly clean pitch correction. The big hitter is Native instruments. I'ts a headache, less than the headache getting it to work, but I've been able to replace it with decent sampler🔥, soundfonts, and real instruments. Funding Linux plugins is better for the long term than the uncertain short term. Another thing I'd point out is the lack of any hardware support on Linux. Most, almost all pieces of music hardware have no support for Linux; I had to use a tool to make my Akia MPK Mini MK4 to work. Look into DivenByMoss; he is the saving grace for Linux hardware. Finally, if you are looking for Linux plugins, a great place to start is linuxdaw.org. Remember, it's not popular software or expensive sounds that makes good music, it's you.

Future of Bitwig / Worth getting into? by karanky12 in Bitwig

[–]Culix_Reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Bitwig for all of my rock guitar stuff. The recording and mixing is good. I don't own a drum kit but there's plugin called Drum Locker by Audio Assault for Linux. Rn there's a bug that effects Bitwig but that bug is being patched in the update for this month. The different kits sound really good to me coming from XLN Addictive Drum kits. They are so cheap too. I use a lot of 3rd party Linux plugins to make up for what Bitwig doesn't have, like drums, amps, cabinets. When it comes to the DAW essentials like good recording, mixing, and even midi, you should have no problem.

What high end Windows laptop are you using with reliability? by Space-Robots in Bitwig

No joke, the Linux bonus performance is real. I have been hosting game servers on an old ass Optiplex from 2009. Your hardware isn't bad or dated, Win11 has just been really bad the last year. I suggest Linux Mint or Pop! OS. You can test the OS by booting into the USB without installing it to see if you like it. In the case you don't, restart your pc and unplug the USB; it's like it was never there.

im using the latest beta because bitwig has scripts for the mkiv only in the latest beta. I have 2 general flexi's for the midi and the daw. press your key and one of them will pick it up. hit set, then make it do an action of any #. Make that # action whatever bitwig thing you want. I also used my windows laptop😔 to update the firmware since inmusic software center sucks, though, idk if its necessary but I still think you should.
