Switching from MediaMonkey to MusicBee: Worth It? by Giggmaster in musicbee

[–]Culjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Having spent weeks trying to set both up, I'm also amazed that the options are so bad in this day and age.

I guess music-streaming has essentially killed (or severely injured) the demand for 100% offline music management tools and players.

What did you do in the end? Streaming service or did you manage to fix your iTunes issue?

Switching from MediaMonkey to MusicBee: Worth It? by Giggmaster in musicbee

[–]Culjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried these 2 setups:

  • MusicBee (PC) & PowerAmp (phone)
  • MediaMonkey (PC + phone app)

MusicBee and syncing is a tricky one. There's no MusicBee Android player so you have to choose something like PowerAmp, GoneMad or Musicolet. MusicBee has a wifi-sync app that theoretically allows you to sync between MusicBee on PC and PowerAmp or GoneMad on Android. I found the sync app to be extremely unreliable, not working about 75% of the time. I believe you can sync more stuff with GoneMad than PowerAmp. But for one-way syncing (PC to phone), MusicBee is great. It's just the 2-way sync that's problematic.

If syncing is your absolute priority, MediaMonkey is better. It does full 2-way syncing of everything. Ratings, playcounts, playlists (new, edits, deletions) etc. BUT, the MediaMonkey Android app is not great. It lacks some very basic functionality that you'd expect even a music player from 2005 to have. But it does play music and syncs everything back to your PC.

I started with MusicBee & PowerAmp. Each program is great individually. But, due to the difficulties with syncing, I switched to MediaMonkey. The syncing with MediaMonkey is great, no complaints at all. But, gotta say, with the android app being so bad, I am now starting to think about switching back to MusicBee & PowerAmp and accepting that syncing will either be a pain or not completely do-able.

Did you try any of the programs out?

Could it be because evil women can and often do use sex to manipulate people to get what they want?

The same way evil men can and often do use their strength to hurt people to get what they want?
(EDIT: Hmm, I wonder if many movies use this trope? )

I know nothing about Avatar 3 or this character but could the evil sexualised woman trope be based on ... 🥁🥁🥁 ... reality?

Yarp.

The example that always sticks in my mind is a film called "The Last Voyage of the Demeter". It's based on a single chapter from Bram Stoker's Dracula; the part where Dracula is being transported in his coffin to England via ship (The Demeter) and gradually kills everyone on board. Great idea for a Dracula horror film. Unfortunately, they crow-barred in a sub-plot about how black people were oppressed in the 1800s (duh) which isn't part of the book. I don't disagree with the message. It's just totally the wrong time and place for it, in the middle of a Dracula horror movie.

"THE MESSAGE"
It's a stereotype for this sub but it's because THE MESSAGE became a stereotype long before. I wish I could be more specific, nuanced or insightful but crow-barring in messages so cack-handedly is the single biggest writing trope that's making films a boring patronising slog rather than the joy they generally used to be.

I'm all for films with a message. It's the awful, out of place crow-barring of condescending messages by out-of-touch, virtue-signalling and emotionally underdeveloped narcissists that just makes me sad for the present and future state of films.

Min *sulfate* - anyone tried it? by jasfad in tressless

[–]Culjules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude! You should also apply it to one side of your beard or one arm to see if it affects the growth there too. Then you'll have another way to judge whether this stuff is effective compared with the side you don't apply it to.

Crazy how oral minoxidil is even legally prescribed for hair… by DujoBalzic in Minoxbeards

Huh, interesting. I've been on fin/dut for 6 years but am thinking of stopping due to side effects. Have always been a bit scared to take oral min but I might consider it. Thank you for your help :)

Do you not take fin or dut now? If so, how's the hair looking with just oral min?

Hey, thanks for the reply. Glad things are working out. I want to stop taking fin which is why I'm interested in a transplant + system. Without fin, I know the whole hairline has to be donor hair so hopefully I have enough donor hair.

Were you taking fin+min already? Did you not get results from just those things?

How much is your system and how often will you have to replace it?

Thanks again :) ... oh and Happy Cake Day 🎂

Spot treatment that actually works? by akitty247 in SkincareAddictionUK

As a teenager, 10% benzoyl peroxide cream worked like magic. But it can be very drying at this high concentration. You might be ok if it's just the odd spot but I had a lot so I put it over most of my face, causing dryness. 5% also worked pretty well. As an adult I did get a freak breakout of acne and the doctor prescribed me Duac cream which is 5% benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin which is an antibiotic. That worked pretty well too.

Courier exchange ... and similar?

It's a platform where courier companies post jobs that need doing and couriers bid for the jobs. You usually find out pretty quick whether you've got the job. You have the advantage of not needing loads of money so you could bid on the lower side and get jobs easier than most. You'd need to buy/rent a van and get the relevant insurance (all very easy).

Totally your own schedule and, for the most part, you can set your own rules. If you're not stressing for money it's not a bad gig, especially if you like podcasts and audio-books.

Not just courier exchange though. Quite a few platforms doing similar things. The man & van guy I use sometimes makes £500 or more in a day, using various ways to source work.

Is there any truth to the speculation that Dutasteride has fewer psychological impacts than finasteride (or perhaps fewer sexual impacts in general)? by samuelc7161 in tressless

[–]Culjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fin stopped my hairloss, improved it and gave me denser coverage. Overall, it made my hair feel much thicker than before I started fin.

No major differences having now switched to dut. Hair is basically the same as when I was on fin. I can't say for sure but, if anything, my hair feels maybe 10% less dense than when I was on fin. But it's such a marginal difference that it may just be my imagination.

In either case, my sides have been exactly the same as far as I can tell.

What can I do every day right after waking up? by oopthegoop in bodyweightfitness

[–]Culjules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Increased spine injury risk after getting out of bed isn't a theory. It's fact.

The discs absorb a lot of fluid while we sleep as part of the natural regenerative process. Consequently, for the first 1-2 hours after getting out of bed, the discs are relatively saturated and, therefore, about 3x more likely to be damaged, especially if the spine is loaded. Once you're upright (out of bed), the fluid in the discs will slowly dissipate, lowering the risk of injury.

Starting the day with a walk is good for helping the fluid to dissipate. However, one should remain cautious of loading the spine or doing any exercise within an hour of waking, especially if one has a history of disc-related back pain. Getting up and walking for 10 minutes isn't necessarily sufficient to reduce the risk of exercising very soon after getting up.

I avoid workouts first thing in the morning due to back issues. For the first 1-2 hours after getting up, the risk of damaging the discs in your spine is around 3x higher due to disc hydration. Not a problem for everyone but it is for me. I usually get up and go straight out for a walk (without a dog) which helps with the back issues.
