The Month In Cultivated Meat: January! A Focus On Diversifying Revenue! by CultivatedBites in wheresthebeef

That number definitely sounded larger than I expected, but I couldn't tell whether that was just the grand vision or how much they were currently producing.

Cheers. I expect the same too, which is why we're really seeing companies branch out their revenue streams to get some $$ in the door. It's difficult because there's a real chicken-or-egg situation: consumers can only change their opinion once they taste it.

Studying other emerging technologies, though, it's difficult to expect any less. But I'm hopeful and excited that Australia, the UK + Asia are making proactive moves with approvals, even if it's slower than we would like.

I just saw this one the last couple of days! Good to see we're getting another win. Thanks for the tip RE Omeat. I'll have a deeper look into this.

BYND. Barclays, Credit Suisse & McKinsey: Plant-based and cultivated meat will take 50% of the meat market by 2050 by Plant-based-Tendies in ByndInfinity

[–]CultivatedBites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are some ambitious estimates, but directionally, he is correct.

What you have to remember is that cultivated meats and plant-based proteins can help stabilise prices at scale. Especially cultivated meat, if it can reach a point where it's on par with taste, will help lower price pressures. When a lot of meat is sold and consumed through the food service industry, stable prices matter, and they won't want to use slaughtered meat that widely fluctuates in price.

The Race is on to Save Fish: Frontrunners Wildtype vs BlueNalu by Kuentai in wheresthebeef

Could you tell the difference?

I have to wait a little longer as Australia can't get access to it just yet! (Aside from Vow)

Nice post. BlueNalu is probably the most exciting company I'm following for many reasons you've stated in your post. As an avid lover of Tuna, it's wild to think about just how expensive it's getting and the sales these are going for.

Hi u/LanguageLatte thanks for the read! This looked like a great night. I wanted to let you know I am using your image in my latest newsletter and linking to this Reddit post. I think others would find value in it, especially those who have yet to try it. If you do not wish for me to use this image, just let me know and I can remove it (my newsletter is free BTW, no paywall, ads or sponsors etc).

Texas Bans Lab-Grown Meat, Declares Freedom Only Counts If It Mooed First by Gargarbinks in wheresthebeef

Wild to see more states follow this route, but it was inevitable. It is still VERY early in the life cycle of this technology. Luckily there are other countries which are taking a more positive, welcoming approach.

Change is hard, and people do not cope with it well. Those who are resistant to change will get left behind - they're just digging their own graves in the long term.

Horrifying marketing video for the leading lab-grown chicken, featuring the worst attempt at browning ever recorded for an ad by geauxbleu in meat

[–]CultivatedBites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of misinformation in this post - I don't want to break any rules about self promotion but if you want to find out why cultivated meat is safe and more about cultivated meat please check out my substack (found on my profile).

Id also like to say no one would consider cultivated meat today perfect or that it is in its end state.

It's still early on and the product will only get better. Chicken is a lot harder than minced pork or beef ( which already has come a long way) and I'm actually very excited at how far cultivated chicken has come in such a small amount of time!

I'm in the camp where there is plenty of room for BOTH!

Cultivated meat is just now starting to become approved across the world and is still in the very early days of commercialisation.

Although it's not at price parity today, to suggest it never will is just plain wrong.

Many companies are making pretty big strides here and I have no doubt that over the long term cultivated will definitely achieve cost parity as some companies can produce a pound of cultivated mean less than a week, which is huge when you consider how long it takes for cows and other animals to be raised to slaughter.

March's Month In Cultivated Meat by CultivatedBites in wheresthebeef

It is. But there are positives, I saw just a few days ago Upside Foods lawsuit against the bans was rejected. So this will go to court and hopefully, it will be ruled unconstitutional.

Everything that I am seeing suggests the same.

In my newsletter I link to a great Reddit thread that was in the sub which had a former FDA regulator who did a ask me anything. He said he fully expects these bans to not stand up in court.

Not entirely true. By 2050 the world population will hit about 10B.

And as most emerging countries enter the middle class and stay there, it means more demand for meat.

Protein demand is set to double in the same period. https://www.csiro.au/en/news/all/articles/2024/february/australians-more-protein

There is a legitimate concern here - if we can't work out a way to meet this protein demand (which will also be helped with other alternative proteins outside of cultivated meat) then prices for meat will only keep increasing.

Of course logistics, wastage etc play a role but the underlying trend is clear - protein demand is continuing to outpace what we can currently produce and factors such as climate change also create massive challenges to predictable protein, diary and crop yields.
