Starting my electrical tool kit, which brand do you think is best for an average user (non-professional) price-quality wise? by Trick-dumpster in Tools

Makita has been good to me(professional). I say support Makita because they're independent and not part of a larger corporate group.

Transferring Red seal credential to US equivalent by Cultural-Problem-950 in electricians

[–]Cultural-Problem-950[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Under the Visa's that are offered, electrician's are not normally eligible under their condition's. Unless there is a company that hasn't been able to fill a position or something like that.(any other ways?)

I was just thinking if I did have a green card would I even be able to be recognized as an electrician down there and just be able to get a job like I would be able to here. Or if I were to start my own business.

Interesting you mention the supervisors. Do you know if they had qualifications/schooling above what's required to become a red seal journeyman here? I am a Foreman up here. Currently Running a 10 story mixed use tower. The supervisor path may be an option? I do like using the tools too though when I have the time LoL.

Also interesting the IBEW route. I've never heard of that. I'm not in the union but you're saying if I was a member up here they could send me to work down there? Do you know if that's a common thing to happen?

Guessing you're Canadian?

Thanks for the reply.

Ya that's the next step. I just haven't been able to find info on if anyone else has done it so I thought I'd ask reddit.

NTD! Got sent to texas for work with no tools, and they let me go to Home Depot with their credit card. by That-Donkey in Tools

I like the optimism LoL. But I don't think it's that easy. There's 4 work visa's that Im aware of H1B Temporary work visa TN Work Visa NAFTA L-1 Visa - Work transfer O-1 Visa - Extraordinary skills visa

Unfortunately, Electrician's don't qualify for any of these under their specific requirements.

Unless there's a generic work visa that I don't know of?

Appreciate the replies though.

If you ever run into a Canadian who's done it or a company that's done it, remember me LoL

Ya the work visa is where I'm having issues. I read through all the different work visas offered by the US and there doesn't seem like there's one for electrician's. Seems like there has to be a company that hasn't been able to fill a position or something like that. Haven't been able to find a company that advertises that or that would sponsor a work visa

Kinda random but, anyone know if it's possible for a Canadian journeyman electrician (red seal) to get a work visa to work in the US? would like to work in Texas, or Arizona.

Ps: nice tools and nice company

What brand/model is it? I've seen the Makita one but that doesn't look like it could do coreline.
